This charming campground is a true gem, especially for those who love to hit the trails or cast a line. Let's dive into what makes this spot an "awesome place to visit" for locals like us!
Wolf Creek Campground is conveniently located on Riverside Rd, Gratiot, WI 53541, USA. This prime address places it perfectly for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly due to its direct adjacency to the popular Cheese Country Recreation Trail. The campground is also easily accessible just off Wisconsin Highway 11, making it a straightforward drive for visitors from across the state.
Gratiot, while a smaller village, is noted for its welcoming atmosphere and local businesses that cater to visitors. This means campers have quick access to essential services; gas for ATVs is just "one block away," and a "walking bridge to local park, food and drink" (added in Summer 2014) provides convenient pedestrian access to village amenities. For those looking to explore further afield, the campground's central location in Southwest Wisconsin provides easy drives to other attractions like Yellowstone Lake State Park, historic Shullsburg, and even Galena, Illinois, just 30 miles away. This excellent accessibility, combined with its direct connection to recreational trails and local services, makes Wolf Creek Campground a hassle-free and appealing destination for a variety of outdoor activities.
Wolf Creek Campground offers a solid array of services and amenities that prioritize comfort and convenience, especially considering its affordable rates:
Campsites with Water and Electricity: The campground boasts 24 sites that include both water and electricity hookups, allowing for comfortable RV and tent camping. These sites are available for a very competitive price.
Non-Electric/Primitive Tent Sites: For those seeking a more rustic experience or a lower rate, there are 10 sites without electricity available.
Modern Bathroom and Shower Facilities: A "beautiful new bathroom/shower facility" (as of 2014) is on-site, offering three standard-sized showers and one handicap-accessible shower. These showers are free to use and are described as "decent for price," clean, with warm water and good pressure.
Fire Pits with Grills: Each campsite is equipped with a fire pit and grill, perfect for cooking over an open flame and enjoying campfires (campfires are permitted).
Picnic Tables: Every site includes a picnic table for convenient outdoor dining and gathering.
Water Fill Station: An easy-to-access water fill station is available for campers to replenish their freshwater tanks.
Dump Station: A convenient dump station is located approximately a quarter-mile away for RV waste disposal.
Children's Playgrounds: Two playgrounds are available for children, one within the camping area and another across Wolf Creek in the local park, making it family-friendly.
Pet-Friendly: Pets are allowed at the campground, provided they are kept on a leash, catering to campers who travel with their furry companions.
First Come, First Served System: Campsites operate on a "first come, first served" basis, with camp envelopes at both entrances for payment and site registration.
These services collectively contribute to a well-rounded and user-friendly camping experience at Wolf Creek.
Wolf Creek Campground, and its surrounding area, boasts several key features and highlights that make it a truly appealing destination for Wisconsin locals:
Direct Access to the Cheese Country Recreation Trail: This is a major draw. The campground is situated right on the 40-mile multi-use trail, which runs from Mineral Point to Monroe. It's ideal for ATV enthusiasts, bicyclists, horseback riders (in summer), and snowmobilers/cross-country skiers (in winter). This seamless connection makes it an ATV-friendly "awesome place to visit."
Affordable and Great Value: At just "$20 dollars water and electric" per night for hookup sites, and $15 for non-electric, the campground offers exceptional value for money, especially when compared to many other private or state park campgrounds. This affordability makes it accessible for more frequent visits.
Trout Stream on Site: The Wolf Creek, a designated trout stream, runs directly through the campground. This provides fantastic trout fishing opportunities right at your doorstep. The Wolf Creek also empties into the Pecatonica River nearby, which is also lauded for diverse fishing and canoeing, offering even more angling and paddling options.
Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities: Despite the low price, the campground is praised for its "nice spot" and "decent" showers, along with a "beautiful new bathroom/shower facility." This attention to cleanliness and upkeep ensures a comfortable stay.
Supportive Local Community: Gratiot is described as a "great city in Wisconsin supporting tourism" and a "very friendly town." This welcoming atmosphere, along with walking-distance access to local businesses like food, drink establishments, and gas stations, enhances the overall experience.
Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: While being right on a popular trail, the campground maintains a "nice quiet campground" ambiance, suggesting a pleasant environment for relaxation.
Family-Friendly Amenities: The presence of two playgrounds ensures that families with children have dedicated spaces for entertainment within and near the campground.
These features collectively make Wolf Creek Campground a highly functional, enjoyable, and strategically located choice for various outdoor pursuits in Southwest Wisconsin.
Wolf Creek Campground operates on a straightforward and highly affordable pricing model, which in itself serves as its primary "promotion" or "special offer" to campers. As a village-owned campground, its aim is to support local tourism and provide accessible recreation rather than maximizing profit through complex promotional schemes.
Competitive Nightly Rates: The major draw here is the excellent value. As of the latest information, campsites with water and electricity are just $20.00 per night, and sites without electricity are $15.00 per night. Tent camping, whether with or without hookups, also falls into these competitive price points. This makes Wolf Creek one of the most budget-friendly options for camping in the region, encouraging repeat visits and extended stays.
First Come, First Served Simplicity: The "first come, first served" system, while sometimes challenging for peak times, can also be a "special offer" for spontaneous travelers who don't want to bother with advance reservations and booking fees often associated with other campgrounds.
Free Showers: Unlike many campgrounds that charge for shower use, Wolf Creek Campground offers "FREE" showers, adding to the overall value for campers.
There are no complex loyalty programs, seasonal discounts, or online coupon codes typically associated with private campgrounds. The "promotion" at Wolf Creek Campground is simply its consistent, low-cost access to quality camping facilities and direct access to prime recreational activities. This transparent and affordable pricing is a significant benefit for budget-conscious Wisconsin locals looking for regular outdoor adventures.

Customer Reviews
20 dollars water and electric, nice campground right on Cheese Trail. Showers are decent for price, nice spot.
Another great city in Wisconsin supporting tourism. Awesome place to visit. Can’t say enough good things about it !!!
Great place to camp. RV sites have water and electric, also some tent sites. There's accessible shower and restroom facilities. There's a playground for the kids. The dump station is about a 1/4 mile up the road. At $20. Per night it's a great value. Situated on the ATV trail. The town has a gas station/convenience store and a few bars that serve food. Everyone is friendly and helpful. It's right next to the highway so it's a little noisy, but traffic is sparse during the night. It's on a first come basis but doesn't fill up until the weekend. It's about 30 miles from cities that have everything one would need.
Very quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The sites are very large. Central to some great food, and ATV trails. The shower/bathroom house is very clean! Definitely would return here!
We enjoyed our 8 night stay there. The only drawback is the 30 amp. Don't understand why they wouldn't just put in 50 amp. It was very warm while we were there and we couldn't have both air conditioners on at the same time. On the positive side, nice bath house nice playground for kids and the grounds were nice. Lots of unoccupied units just sitting there. It's a first come first serve Park.
