### Introduction / Overview
For Massachusetts residents seeking a convenient, amenity-rich base camp to explore the stunning North Shore and nearby New Hampshire Seacoast, Black Bear Campground in Salisbury, MA, offers a highly accessible and popular option. Situated right on the border of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, this campground serves as a practical hub for RV enthusiasts and family campers looking for a summer getaway that blends the great outdoors with easy access to major attractions.
Black Bear Campground is a large, well-established park that caters primarily to the RV community, boasting an impressive number of full hookup sites suitable for big rigs. While it accommodates tent campers, the focus on RV facilities and the density of sites is a defining characteristic. The park operates seasonally, typically welcoming guests from mid-May through the end of September, aligning perfectly with the peak vacation months for Massachusetts families.
The environment is designed to be family-friendly and community-oriented, with multiple recreational amenities available on-site, including two swimming pools and a large playground. The sites themselves are generally level and offer a mix of wooded and open areas, though the overall design emphasizes maximum capacity, leading to sites that are often described by users as being quite close together. Despite this density, the campground remains a popular choice due to its cleanliness, convenient location, and comprehensive offerings that minimize the need to leave the property for daily entertainment. The park’s proximity to both the Massachusetts coast and the retail benefits of tax-free New Hampshire shopping makes it a geographically smart choice for local visitors.
### Location and Accessibility
The location of Black Bear Campground at 54 Main St, Salisbury, MA 01952, USA, is arguably its most significant asset for Massachusetts-based travelers. Its position in Salisbury places it directly in the Merrimack Valley/North Shore region, offering unparalleled access to a wealth of recreational and cultural destinations.
Interstate Convenience: The campground is located mere seconds from both Interstate 95 (I-95) and Interstate 495 (I-495), making it an ideal spot for quick overnight stays for travelers or a simple commute from the greater Boston area. This excellent highway access is frequently cited as a major "pro" by guests.
Coastal Proximity: Campers are just a short drive—approximately three to four miles—from the beautiful white sands of both Salisbury Beach State Reservation in Massachusetts and Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. This proximity allows for easy day trips to the ocean for swimming, sunbathing, and boardwalk fun without having to pay premium on-beach accommodation rates.
Shopping Advantage: The New Hampshire border is less than a mile away, granting residents quick and easy access to tax-free shopping for groceries, retail items, and gasoline in towns like Seabrook, NH.
Regional Exploration: The park serves as a fantastic launch point for day excursions to historic Newburyport, MA, just a few minutes south, or even a commuter rail trip into Boston, with a nearby station offering service into the city.
The Main Street address provides clear visibility and straightforward navigation upon arrival, while the smooth, well-maintained gravel roads within the park assist in easy maneuvering for large RVs and trailers up to 65 feet in length.
### Services Offered
Black Bear Campground is well-equipped to handle the needs of modern RV and family campers, focusing on providing essential convenience services.
Full Hookup Sites: The majority of the 200+ available sites offer full hookups, including water, sewer, and electric service (20/30/50 amp), catering specifically to large recreational vehicles.
Pull-Through Sites: A significant number of sites are pull-through, greatly simplifying arrival and departure for big rigs and those towing larger trailers.
Modern Restrooms and Showers: Clean, modern restroom facilities are available. Note that, as is common in some private campgrounds, the showers operate on a coin system (e.g., 50 cents for a five-minute shower), which is important for guests to know in advance.
Laundry Facilities: A sparkling clean, on-site laundry room provides guests with the convenience of managing clothing care during extended stays.
Free Wi-Fi: Complimentary Wi-Fi service is available to help guests stay connected, check local attractions, or handle work, though streaming quality may vary depending on park occupancy.
Dumping Station: For those on sites without sewer connections or for traveling guests, a convenient dumping station is available.
Pet-Friendly Policy: Small pets are permitted in the campground, provided they are leashed, supervised, and owners adhere to strict cleanup rules, though they are not allowed in the pool or bathhouse areas.
### Features / Highlights
The Black Bear Campground experience is enhanced by a range of on-site recreational features, making it a true destination for family fun, particularly during the warm New England summer.
Two Swimming Pools: A major highlight is the presence of two separate swimming pools, providing ample space for guests to cool off and relax during the hot Massachusetts summer months.
Recreation Hall & Adult Hall: The campground offers a dedicated Recreation Hall for community gatherings and activities, as well as an Adult Hall for more mature, quiet socializing.
Large Playground & Sports Areas: A large, well-equipped playground is available for children. Additionally, the park provides dedicated areas for classic camping games, including horseshoes, volleyball, and basketball.
Big Rig Accessibility: The park’s infrastructure is explicitly designed to welcome large RVs, with wide access and 50-amp electrical service, making it a reliable stop for all sizes of recreational vehicles traveling through or staying in the region.

### Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals
Black Bear Campground is an ideal and highly practical choice for Massachusetts locals, particularly those who own RVs or enjoy regional road trips. Its suitability rests on three key factors: unparalleled accessibility, comprehensive amenities, and the crucial New England location advantage.
For residents living in Greater Boston, the Merrimack Valley, or Central Massachusetts, the campground is a short, stress-free drive thanks to its immediate proximity to I-95 and I-495. This makes weekend trips or mid-week escapes logistically simple. Crucially, the location in Salisbury means you are mere minutes from the coast—from the fun of Salisbury Beach’s arcades and fishing spots to the historic charm of Newburyport—while simultaneously having tax-free shopping in New Hampshire just across the border, offering a significant financial benefit to campers stocking up on supplies.
While some reviews note that sites can feel closely packed and mention historical electrical issues (suggesting the importance of bringing a surge protector, which is good practice at any park), the overall value proposition remains strong. The on-site facilities—two pools, playgrounds, and laundry—ensure that families have everything they need for an enjoyable, convenient stay without having to sacrifice proximity to the region’s best beaches and cultural centers. Black Bear Campground provides a reliable, full-service camping experience that perfectly balances the desire for an outdoor adventure with the necessity of modern convenience, serving as the perfect home base for exploring the best of the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Seacoast.

Tent Camping? Not good. The tents are located in what appears to be a private area. There are houses right next to them. It’s mostly clean. The bathrooms are ok. COLD Showers an are 5 minutes for 50 cents. They do have a smooth gravel road.
Sep 10, 2025 · Jack PhillipsPros: Nice facilities and close to the Interstate. Cons: Severe electrical issue. Low amperage kept shutting down my surge protector. From post I read later, this is not a new problem. Campers are packed on top of reach other. I could not open my windows because of the smoke and noise.
Jun 23, 2025 · Steve HoldemanThe owner Valerie told when I checked in said 6 days and as long as no issues we could extend for thevtwo weeks well checked in Saturday was at sixflags all day and evening Sunday was out all day and evening Monday and came back to my whole site damaged by there employees and when I asked for my money back for the other 4 days got told no and asked to have it in writing she said no but I had a witness on the phone who heard everything. Stay far away from this place the employee's will do anything to try to cover each other's shady stuff up however I already filed a police report and I have an attorney for the theft by deception against black bear campground. Hate are the pictures and I got told to leave after their employees costed me over 1000 in damages and then told me to leave and screwed me out of the money for the other four nights its OK though that's why they have attorneys ,the attorney Generals office, as well as news channels and court rooms. I have all pictures, and witnesses and everything to prove in court with my attorney and im pressing charges stay as far away as possible and when you say you have witnesses and they realize it they dont want to say anything or try to fix the problem so we will see what the judge has to say
