For residents of the Granite State, the Seacoast is a cherished escape, offering a unique blend of sandy shores, salty air, and classic New England coastal charm.
Hampton Beach State Park Campground
is one of the most coveted destinations in the region, offering a camping experience unlike any other in New Hampshire: it is the only RV park located directly on the Atlantic Ocean coastline.Situated at the mouth of the Hampton River, this state-operated facility provides 28 sites dedicated exclusively to recreational vehicles (RVs). It is crucial for prospective campers to note the specific, non-negotiable requirement for this campground: all campers must be in a fully self-contained unit and capable of hooking up to all three services—water, sewer, and electricity—as the campground does not provide public bathhouses or showers for campers. Tents, pop-ups, and auxiliary shelters are strictly prohibited, creating a dedicated, full-service RV community.
While one reviewer mentioned, "But with no bathhouse, just a dirt/sand parking lot to camp in and at $70/night, this would not be my first choice to camp again," the site's enduring popularity and the high nightly rate reflect its unparalleled beachfront location. Many long-time visitors, some having enjoyed the spot for 40 years, emphasize the beauty of the "great spot of sand beach close to home," underscoring that the appeal lies in the unique, unbeatable proximity to the ocean, not traditional campground amenities. It’s an ideal spot for RV enthusiasts who prioritize a full-hookup, ocean-breeze experience over a wooded setting.
Hampton Beach State Park Campground
is situated at the southern end of the famous Hampton Beach stretch, right on Route 1A (Ocean Boulevard) where the Hampton River meets the Atlantic. The campground address is NH-1A, Hampton, NH 03842, USA.Its location is a major benefit for New Hampshire locals, providing easy access from Route 101 or Interstate 95. This strategic placement ensures that your RV adventure begins almost immediately upon arrival. The park is located at the Seabrook/Hampton town line, positioning it perfectly between the natural tranquility of the Hampton River and the lively attractions of the main beach area.
Campers are a short, pleasant walk from the heart of Hampton Beach’s excitement. The famous boardwalk, the
Seashell Stage
amphitheater which hosts free summer concerts, and a variety of local restaurants, shops, and entertainment are all within easy reach. The beachfront extends for miles, offering vast opportunities for walking, sunbathing, and taking in the "fresh salt air, sand dunes and sun," as one reviewer noted. Its position at the river mouth also provides a slightly more protected camping area while still delivering stunning ocean views and sounds.
As a highly specialized RV park,
Hampton Beach State Park Campground
focuses its limited number of sites on providing necessary utilities for a self-contained stay.
The primary appeal of the

Due to the high demand for this unique coastal experience, a maximum stay duration of 14 consecutive or accumulated days applies during the peak summer period (Memorial Day to Labor Day).
Hampton Beach State Park Campground
is a must-experience destination for New Hampshire RV owners. While it may not offer the wooded seclusion of inland parks, its suitability for locals lies in three key areas:First, it offers the ultimate "staycation" convenience. For many Granite Staters, especially those in Southern NH, the campground is close to home but provides a total change of scenery—waking up to the sound and scent of the Atlantic surf is an unbeatable coastal luxury that saves hours of travel to other New England beaches.
Second, it provides
New Hampshire's only true oceanfront RV experience
. There is no other state park in New Hampshire that allows you to camp with full hookups directly on the Atlantic shore. This exclusivity, which is reflected in the high demand, makes it a highly valuable resource for local RV enthusiasts. Finally, its proximity to the heart of Hampton Beach means local families can enjoy the lively atmosphere, concerts, and dining options without the hassle of day-trip parking. It is a fantastic spot to enjoy the famous New Hampshire Seacoast events while having a comfortable, full-service RV base to return to each night. For those who value the sounds and sights of the ocean and the convenience of full hookups above all else, securing one of the 28 sites at
Hampton Beach State Park Campground
is the quintessential New Hampshire coastal camping achievement.NH-1A, Hampton, NH 03842, USA
Nice location. But with no bathhouse, just a dirt/sand parking lot to camp in and at $70/night, this would not be my first choice to camp again.
May 14, 2025 · David HrivnakI have been visiting here for 40 years. A great spot of sand beach close to home. The beach extends for miles and provides lots of walking. Sunbathing, swimming if you are brave to venture into the ocean and the cold water. I enjoy the fresh salt air, sand dunes and sun. There is also a camping area for RVs but no shade if you are into that kind d of camping.
Apr 02, 2023 · Raymond GordonI loved the sand, the water was cold but it's okay, the weather that day was good. Our toddlers got to walk, run, and enjoy the beach. However, there were just some frustrating situations like parking restrictions and shower. There was not enough showers to clean up and wash the free sand away 😂... We ended up waiting for 5 people before 6 of us got our turn. The parking time allowed was only till 8pm so, you gotta roll or your vehicle will be towed. On our way out, it happened that one of our toddlers got a skin rash and needed to clean up more, so there was this old man who manages the parking lot, came to us to let us know the rules with a very authoritative inflection and said, I don't care about your troubles, parking is only till 8pm. It's either you roll or get towed. Hence, our family just dealt with our toddler's need as fast as we could and drove away. We prayed for the old man to overcome whatever difficulties he's experiencing in life 🙏
Jul 11, 2023 · Nemia Bigata SkrockiBeautiful view of the ocean with close access to a very nice beach area. Walking or biking distance to many attractions. The campground has full hookups and is popular because of the location. The campground could be cleaner and better maintained. Biggest con: the campground and beach say no dogs, people ignore that, have them in the campground and on the beach and don’t clean up after them.
