Brooklyn Trails About
For Michiganders who live and breathe motorsports, or those simply looking for an undeniably lively and unique camping experience, Brooklyn Trails Campground in Brooklyn offers a front-row seat to the action. This campground is not your typical quiet nature retreat; it’s a destination intrinsically linked with the roar of engines and the vibrant energy of race weekends. Situated directly adjacent to Michigan International Speedway (MIS), Brooklyn Trails provides an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in the excitement of major racing events, making it a highly specialized and thrilling camping option for dedicated race fans and those seeking an electric atmosphere.
Michigan's diverse outdoor recreation scene encompasses a wide array of activities, from serene lakeside camping to invigorating trail adventures. Among these, the unique niche of event-based camping, particularly around major sporting venues, holds a special appeal. Campgrounds like Brooklyn Trails serve a crucial purpose for local residents who are passionate about events held at MIS. They offer a convenient and cost-effective way to fully experience race weekends, allowing fans to stay close to the action, tailgate, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts. This type of camping fosters a strong sense of community among attendees, creating memorable experiences that go beyond just watching a race. Brooklyn Trails is a testament to Michigan's ability to cater to various recreational preferences, providing a lively backdrop for race-day celebrations and unforgettable gatherings.
While the atmosphere at Brooklyn Trails is undeniably geared towards "race fan partying," it does provide essential amenities to support this unique camping style. Understanding its primary purpose as a track-owned campground helps set expectations. It’s a place where the energy of the event often takes precedence, offering a distinct alternative to traditional, quieter camping environments.
Brooklyn Trails Campground is strategically located at 12626 US-12, Brooklyn, MI 49230, USA. This address places it in an incredibly advantageous position for motorsports enthusiasts: directly adjacent to Michigan International Speedway (MIS). For race fans, this proximity is arguably the campground's most significant feature, offering unparalleled access to major racing events throughout the year.
The location on US-12 (Michigan Avenue) ensures excellent accessibility from various parts of Michigan. US-12 is a historic highway that connects to major routes, making it straightforward to reach Brooklyn from cities like Ann Arbor (approximately 45 minutes east), Jackson (about 30 minutes west), and Detroit (roughly an hour and a half east). This central location within the southern Lower Peninsula makes Brooklyn Trails a convenient drive for many Michiganders attending events at MIS.
Being "very close to the track" means campers can easily walk to the Speedway, avoiding traffic and parking hassles often associated with large events. While the campground offers a "dry camping" experience, its direct adjacency to MIS makes it the go-to choice for those who want to be at the heart of the race weekend action. The convenience of simply stepping out of your RV or tent and being moments away from the grandstands or fan zones is a huge draw for this specialized camping destination.
Brooklyn Trails Campground provides essential services geared towards supporting a race-centric camping experience, primarily focusing on convenience during event weekends. Based on customer reviews, the following services are typically offered:
- Dry Camping Sites: The primary offering is "Dry camping," meaning sites do not come with electric, water, or sewer hookups. Campers are expected to be self-sufficient regarding power and water. This is a common setup for event-based campgrounds.
- Portable Toilets (Porta Potties): "Porta potties are provided" throughout the campground, offering basic restroom facilities.
- Shower Facilities: "Showers... are provided," which is a crucial amenity for multi-day dry camping, allowing campers to refresh during their stay.
- Small Convenience Store: There is a "small convenience store" on-site, providing quick access to essential items, snacks, and beverages, which is highly beneficial given the event-focused nature of the camping.
- Waste Disposal (Limited): While a large dump bin might not be immediately "close" to all sites, some form of waste disposal or collection points would be available for general trash.
- Security Presence (though noted as lax): The mention that "Security is lax" implies that there is a security presence, even if its effectiveness is sometimes questioned by campers. This indicates an attempt to maintain order.
- Visitor Access: The campground primarily caters to event attendees, implying controlled access during race weekends.
Brooklyn Trails Campground offers a unique set of features and highlights, primarily designed to cater to the lively atmosphere of race weekends at Michigan International Speedway:
- Direct Proximity to Michigan International Speedway (MIS): This is the paramount feature. Being "very close to the track" means campers are immersed in the race day atmosphere, with easy walking access to the grandstands and fan zones, avoiding traffic and parking headaches.
- Race Fan Partying Atmosphere: The campground is explicitly a place to "Prepare for race fan partying." This is a highlight for those seeking a loud, energetic, and social environment filled with fellow motorsports enthusiasts, tailgating, and celebrations.
- Affordable "Dry Camping": While lacking full hookups, the "dry camping" model often comes with a "great price," making it a cost-effective way to stay right at the track for multiple days.
- Essential Amenities Provided: Despite being dry camping, the provision of "Showers and Porta potties" and a "small convenience store" addresses critical basic needs for campers.
- Handicapped Services (Area for Improvement): While noted as needing "a lot of improvement," the mention of "Handicapped services" indicates an awareness and some level of provision for accessibility, which is a starting point.
- Community and Camaraderie: The shared passion for racing creates a strong sense of community among campers, fostering camaraderie and a festive atmosphere.
- Unique Event Camping Experience: This isn't just camping; it's an integral part of the overall MIS race weekend experience, offering a distinct alternative to traditional, quieter campgrounds.
As a campground closely affiliated with Michigan International Speedway (MIS) and primarily serving event attendees, Brooklyn Trails Campground's "promotions" or "special offers" are typically tied to the race schedule and ticket packages rather than traditional camping discounts. Specific details are not provided in the reviews, but general practices for such venues include:
- Event Package Deals: Often, the "camping" aspect is bundled into a larger package that includes race tickets or multi-day passes. This isn't a discount on camping itself, but an integrated offering.
- Early Bird Booking: For major race weekends, securing a camping spot well in advance (an "early bird" approach) is common and may sometimes be linked to better pricing or preferred locations, though specific offers are not detailed.
- Tiered Pricing: Pricing may vary based on the specific event, the duration of stay, and the proximity to the track or certain amenities within the campground.
Given the nature of race-day camping, any specific "offers" would typically be communicated directly through the Michigan International Speedway website, their ticketing partners, or directly via the Brooklyn Trails phone number. Interested race fans should consult the official MIS event guides and booking platforms for the most current information on camping rates and any potential bundled deals for upcoming race weekends.

Customer Reviews
Called about noise complaint as campers beside us left there loud generator on all night long. I wasn't the only camper upset about them leaving it on and there excuse was they didn't have a battery to keep everything running. I called brooklyn trails and they said they send somebody over to check on it and they never showed up. When it says quite time is after 11pm. But they don't do anything unbelievable. Let's just say the amount of gas they put in there generator, they could have bought a new battery. Just saying if you call brooklyn trails about a complaint just know they won't help you out.
Dry camping here at one of the track owned campgrounds. Prepare for race fan partying. Showers and Porta potties are provided and there is a small convenience store. It is very close to the track. Security is lax. Handicapped services need a lot of improvement.
This place is soooooo much fun!!!
No electricity but if you're looking for a basic camping experience without power you found the place ..Get ready to spend some money all things available are charged at a higher rate then those same items at your locatal Walmart.
