Camp Okeechobee About

Hello, fellow Floridians! Are you yearning for an outdoor escape that combines the tranquility of nature with unique recreational opportunities? Look no further than Camp Okeechobee! Tucked away in Florida's heartland, this relatively new campground is quickly becoming a go-to spot for RVers and tent campers alike, offering a fresh take on outdoor adventures.

We know that finding available camping, especially last minute in South Florida, can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. But Camp Okeechobee stands out for its welcoming approach and genuine hospitality. As one couple shared, "My husband and I were looking for some camping in South Florida and when I say everything was booked, I mean it. Except for Camp Okeechobee. Not only do they cater to RV's AND tent campers, which is rare for private campgrounds and have availability last minute, they were extremely helpful and nice." This flexibility and helpfulness are just a few reasons why Camp Okeechobee is quickly building a loyal following among locals.

Another delighted RVer recounted, "We spent a wonderful weekend at Camp Okeechobee last month. We have a 36' toy hauler and we were pleased with the size of the brand new campsites with 50 amp electrical, water hookup, picnic tables and a fire pit. The sites are all pull through and easy to access and although we started off a little wet, the area dried up quickly. The adjoining outdoor gun range is extensive with many lanes and a very friendly staff. Made for a great weekend complete with beautiful sunsets with good friends!" This highlights the quality of their new RV sites and the added bonus of unique on-site activities.

Camp Okeechobee is more than just a place to park your rig or pitch your tent; it's an evolving destination where you can create lasting memories, enjoy Florida's beautiful natural scenery, and perhaps even try a new hobby at their adjacent facilities. Get ready to discover why this campground is perfect for your next Central Florida adventure!

Location and Accessibility

Camp Okeechobee is situated at 6537 48th St NE, Okeechobee, FL 34972, USA. This address places it squarely in Okeechobee County, a region of Florida known for its vast natural landscapes, particularly its namesake, Lake Okeechobee. While the reviews mention it being "out in the middle of no where," for many Floridians, this is precisely the appeal – a true escape from urban sprawl, offering peace and quiet under wide-open skies.

Despite its seemingly remote feel, the campground is easily accessible. Located on 48th St NE, it's typically reached via well-maintained county roads that connect to major state highways like US-441, US-98, and US-27. These routes provide straightforward navigation for both RVs and cars, ensuring that even large toy haulers, as noted by a reviewer, can access the "brand new campsites with 50 amp electrical, water hookup." The "pull through" sites further simplify parking for larger rigs.

For those who enjoy a bit of off-site adventure, the campground's central Florida location offers convenient day trips. One reviewer noted, "We also loved the fact that it was just a little over an hour away from Phil Foster Memorial Park in Riviera where we like to snorkel when we are in South Florida." This proximity to both South Florida coastal attractions and the unique fishing and boating opportunities of Lake Okeechobee makes Camp Okeechobee a strategic base for exploring diverse aspects of our state.

The "cows right behind our site" mentioned by a camper perfectly encapsulate the rural charm and natural immersion that defines this location. It’s a place where you can truly disconnect from the city noise and reconnect with nature, all while remaining within a manageable drive of major Floridian destinations.

Features / Highlights

Camp Okeechobee offers a compelling array of features and highlights that set it apart, making it an exciting destination for various types of outdoor enthusiasts in Florida.

  • Brand New, Spacious RV Sites: A significant highlight is the quality of the "brand new campsites" for RVs. They are described as spacious, with "50 amp electrical, water hookup, picnic tables and a fire pit," and are all "pull through and easy to access," accommodating large rigs like 36' toy haulers. This ensures a comfortable and convenient stay for RVers.

  • Unique On-Site Recreational Facilities: What truly distinguishes Camp Okeechobee is its direct adjacency to and integration with other recreational facilities:

Promotions or Special Offers

As a relatively new and still developing campground, Camp Okeechobee's "promotions" might lean more towards value-driven offerings and future enhancements rather than explicit, rotating discounts. The core "offer" is its competitive pricing and the unique combination of amenities it provides.

Based on the provided reviews, here are some aspects that could be considered ongoing benefits or "offers":

  • Competitive Pricing: The tent sites were "just over $40 per night" with tax, which is a reasonable rate for camping in Florida, especially considering the amenities and the unique adjoining facilities. While RV site prices aren't specified, the positive feedback implies they offer good value.

  • Last-Minute Availability: For Floridians who often find campgrounds booked solid, Camp Okeechobee's ability to offer "availability last minute" is a significant, practical "special offer" in itself, providing flexibility for spontaneous trips.

  • Bundle of Activities at One Location: The close proximity and friendly staff at the "extensive outdoor gun range" and "motocross track" effectively serve as a bundled offering. For enthusiasts of these activities, the ability to camp and indulge in their hobbies at one location is a strong value proposition, even if the activities themselves incur separate costs.

  • Future Enhancements: The campground is "fairly new and they have not finished with all the things they have planned to put in." While not an immediate discount, the promise of "updates that are coming in the future" acts as a forward-looking "promotion," encouraging repeat visits to experience the evolving amenities.

For the most current information on specific rates, availability, or any potential seasonal specials, it is always recommended to contact Camp Okeechobee directly. Their friendly staff, as noted in reviews, will be the best resource for up-to-date pricing and information on future developments.

My husband and I were looking for some camping in South Florida and when I say everything was booked, I mean it. Except for Camp Okeechobee. Not only do they cater to RV's AND tent campers, which is rare for private campgrounds and have availability last minute, they were extremely helpful and nice. We arrived pretty late for camping standards at around 5:45 pm and were met by Kevin who helped us get settled in and even grabbed some fire wood for us. (There is a cost for the wood) This place is out in the middle of no where, which is exactly what we were looking for. There were even cows right behind our site which was pretty fun. There is a shooting range and what I believe is a motocross track right next to the campground so it's perfect if you are in to those activities. The camp ground is fairly new and they have not finished with all the things they have planned to put in so keep that in mind, but they had everything we needed. Each campsite had plenty of space for your tent, a fire ring and a picnic table. The cost with tax was just over $40 per night. There are no water or electric hookups at the tent sites, so plan accordingly. I am not sure about the prices of the RV sites. The bath houses were clean and well maintained The campground is also dog friendly, if they mind their manners that is. 😊 The sky was a little cloudy that night, but I'm certain on a clear night, the stars would be amazing. We had a really nice and relaxing night here and we are excited about the updates that are coming in the future. We also loved the fact that it was just a little over an hour away from Phil Foster Memorial Park in Riviera where we like to snorkel when we are in South Florida. They've got a really nice place here! We will definitely be back!
