As a Vermont resident, you understand that the true gem of the Green Mountain State often lies just beyond the mountain ranges—on the beautiful waters of Lake Champlain. For over 90 years, Camp Skyland, LLC, has been a cherished institution at the southernmost tip of the Lake Champlain Islands in South Hero, offering an authentic, welcoming lakeside camping experience. It’s a classic, family-owned establishment that speaks directly to the heart of the Vermont outdoors lifestyle.
This is not a massive, commercial resort; it is a six-acre slice of paradise where the owners pride themselves on a clean, friendly, and view-centric atmosphere. The character of the campground is unique, with its grassy camping areas replacing the typical dirt or concrete lots, which instantly adds a pleasant, natural twist to your stay. Guests consistently praise the owner, Joey, for his helpful, easy-going nature, highlighting the personalized touch of this long-running family operation.
The main attraction is the truly “unending panoramic view of the bay, lake and mountains beyond,” including the Green Mountains, Camel's Hump, and Mt. Mansfield. This unparalleled scenery creates a relaxing atmosphere perfect for hitting the 'pause button' on your busy Vermont life.
While the campground is universally lauded for its immaculate public restrooms and free hot showers—a feature every camper truly appreciates—potential visitors should note that the campsite layout prioritizes the view. This means many sites are open in nature and not very private, with some even situated on a slight angle, which can present a minor challenge when setting up a camp stove or leveling a small trailer. However, for most Vermonters seeking a clean, safe, and friendly environment with direct lake access and phenomenal views, Camp Skyland is a clear winner for a quintessential Lake Champlain Islands getaway.

The campsite owner Joey is a great help, easy going solid guy. The campground character is unique, very clean, and a super location to cycle from. Showers, flush toilets, swimming very nice. Early morning breezes, the grass parking added a twist from dirt concrete lots and made our stay a pleasure. A winner for a VT stay.
Aug 18, 2025 · G BI found Camp Skyland to be a nice place to spend my first night in Vermont! The panoramic views are wonderful, and I was greeted by a friendly staff member upon arrival. Although the sites aren't very private, I felt safe while solo tent camping. The restrooms were some of the cleanest I have ever experienced at a campground! One downside that I noticed is that many of the sites are at an angle which can make it difficult for using a camp stove.
Jun 28, 2025 · Ellie LetourneauAway from urban hustle, a place to just relax. Cabins are clean and nicely kept. The area all together has mostly mom and pop shops, that makes it special. Property is kept nicely, and they were available whenever we needed something. They also lend with games, balls, books, etc. Sunrise view is great.
Aug 23, 2025 · Aarti JajooThe most horrible vacation my family has ever had, upon making the reservation, we told him we had many toddlers.and a large family, we needed 3 spots. we were put in a leach field or something else! Several of us got sick. The entire place was dry and beautiful except the camp sites we were placed in. Our tents were covered in mud that smelled awful it got so bad we packed up days early and left, we were offered $100 dollars back if we left immediately after complaining of these issues. Not moved to a dry spot, he told us we were never allowed back. And to leave as fast as possible he hated the children. They were nothing but rude the entire time. I would not recommend if you have children it is very expensive and they are NOT kid friendly. If you want a traditional camping experience. This is not the place to come.
