Introduction / Overview
For New Jersey residents yearning to trade the hustle of the Garden State's more populated areas for the tranquility of its mountains, Camp Taylor Campground offers an authentic, back-to-nature experience. Situated on a sprawling 400 acres in Columbia, NJ, this family-owned and operated destination provides a genuine outdoor retreat in the scenic Skylands Region, right on the doorstep of the iconic Delaware Water Gap. Since 1964, the Taylor Family has been dedicated to offering campers a pristine, natural setting that prioritizes the environment and a peaceful atmosphere.
Camp Taylor is not just a place to park an RV or pitch a tent; it is a full-fledged natural sanctuary. It features a stunning two-acre lake, miles of private hiking trails, and a unique proximity to the Lakota Wolf Preserve, from which the nocturnal howling of wolves often adds to the remote wilderness feel—a truly distinctive New Jersey experience. The campground is renowned among local users for its spacious, wooded sites that ensure privacy, as noted by visitors who appreciate not being "on top of each other."
Whether you are an experienced hiker looking for direct access to the Appalachian Trail, a family seeking clean, safe amenities for a weekend getaway, or a first-time camper opting for the cozy comfort of a rental cabin, Camp Taylor has cultivated a reputation for being beautifully kept, professionally managed, and staffed by a team described as welcoming, friendly, and genuinely caring about their guests' experience. This blend of pristine nature and high-quality service makes it a premier camping choice for locals across the state.
Location and Accessibility

I visited this campground with my friend Dobromila and I must say that Camp Taylor is truly a hidden gem! The campground is beautifully kept, spacious, and surrounded by nature, which makes it such a peaceful and relaxing escape. The lake is absolutely stunning — perfect for sitting by the water, kayaking, or just soaking in the view. It really adds to the whole experience of being away from the hustle and bustle. The cabins were wonderful — clean, cozy, and comfortable, with just the right mix of rustic charm and modern convenience. They felt private yet still close enough to enjoy everything the campground has to offer. The staff deserves a special mention too. They were so welcoming, friendly, and always ready to help with anything we needed. You can tell they genuinely care about their guests and keeping the campground a special place. Overall, Camp Taylor is the perfect spot for anyone looking to enjoy nature, relax by the lake, and stay in cabins that feel like a home away from home. I can’t wait to come back and make even more memories here!
Aug 19, 2025 · Ms. LaraI don't have much experience in the campground field but I loved this place as soon as we pulled in and headed toward our site. Beautiful, not on top of each other. Super clean restrooms near by, 30 second walk and your there. 24 hour showers also very clean. Beautiful lake to take the kiddos swimming. We were very happy.
Jul 03, 2025 · Michelle GSuper clean facility! Sites are quiet and more secluded with lots of room. People are friendly and nice and helpful. Feels like you're alone in the woods which is the whole point of camping ❤️ swimming lake was great. Grounds are spacious and have activities to do and playgrounds! Definitely coming back for more adventures
Jul 29, 2025 · Jackie CacciatoreLove Camp Taylor! A great place to camp with family and friends. Bathrooms near campsites as well as a main one with showers near entrance. Love that they have Lakota Wolf Preserve on their grounds where you can hear the wolves howling at night!
Aug 09, 2025 · Amanda EganWe just got back from a 4 day camping stay at Camp Taylor. We have been coming here for many years now, and usually we come twice a year. The Campground lost power due to a car accident down the street that took out 3 transformers. This did not really effect us except for the bathroom facilities. They owners jumped right on this issue and went and grabbed a generator and hooked it up to the pump house to allow the water facilities to work. As awlays we were very happy with our time here. We saw the toddler bears a few times, so cute and they just keep to themselves, the deer as usual were so friendly coming to say hello and then moving along. We appreciate the tuck in at night from the staff last rounds to make sure we are all good. We will be back in the fall!!!!
