This places it directly on the shores of the breathtaking Lake Santeetlah, a jewel within the Nantahala National Forest. For North Carolina residents, its location in Graham County means access to one of the more remote yet incredibly scenic parts of our state, renowned for its pristine wilderness and legendary winding roads.
The campground's proximity to Robbinsville is a significant advantage, as it means easy access to essential supplies. As one visitor noted, it's "only a short jaunt to Robbinsville where they have a grocery store for supplies," ensuring that campers can easily restock provisions without straying far from their natural retreat. Features / Highlights
Promotions or Special Offers
As a campground likely managed by the U.S. Forest Service within the Nantahala National Forest, Cheoah Point Campground typically operates on a standardized fee schedule. These types of public campgrounds generally do not offer seasonal "promotions" or discount codes in the way a privately owned business might. Reservations are usually made through a federal booking platform like recreation.gov, where fees are fixed.
However, the "offer" of Cheoah Point Campground lies in its consistent availability of high-value camping in a prime location. While you won't find traditional sales, the benefit for North Carolina locals is access to a well-maintained site with a camp host, located directly on Lake Santeetlah, and surrounded by world-class hiking and riding opportunities, all at a publicly regulated rate.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding fees, reservation policies, specific site availability, and any potential seasonal changes or closures, it is highly recommended to consult the official U.S. Forest Service website for the Nantahala National Forest or visit recreation.gov. This will ensure you have the precise details needed to plan your visit and make a reservation, securing your spot in this sought-after lakefront location.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For us North Carolinians, Cheoah Point Campground stands out as an exceptionally suitable destination, offering a quintessential mountain lake camping experience right in our own backyard. We cherish our state’s diverse natural playgrounds, and this campground perfectly encapsulates the thrill of adventure and the tranquility of lakeside living that we so often seek.
Its primary appeal for locals lies in its unique balance. While some reviews mention "tight quarters" for larger RVs, this points to its popularity and the fact that campers are there for the experience, not just the campsite itself. As one local put it, "we're not here to hang at the camper! We're here for the Motorcycle rides and hikes!" This perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Cheoah Point: it’s a vibrant hub for outdoor enthusiasts who are eager to hit the trails or the scenic byways.
The location on Lake Santeetlah is a significant draw. For those hot North Carolina summers, having a pristine lake right at your doorstep for swimming, fishing, or kayaking is invaluable. Furthermore, the accessibility to "great hikes and gorgeous views" means that every day offers a new opportunity for exploration and discovery, catering to our state's love for outdoor activity.
The presence of a "very nice" and welcoming camp host also adds a personal touch, ensuring that even if the sites are close, the atmosphere remains friendly and supportive. And the convenience of Robbinsville being a "short jaunt" away for supplies means that while you feel immersed in nature, you're never truly cut off from essentials. Cheoah Point Campground isn't just a place to pitch a tent; it’s a vibrant community where North Carolinians can embrace their passion for the mountains, the lakes, and the open road, creating lasting memories amidst the stunning beauty of our home state.

We spent a week here and had an amazing time. Very close to some great hikes and gorgeous views! Only a short jaunt to Robbinsville where they have a grocery store for supplies. If you stay here spots 14-17 are the prime spots ,for sure, and would be well worth the walk in to those tent sites. The camp host was very nice and made us feel welcome. If we ever get back to NC we will definitely stay here again!
May 15, 2021 · Annie BoevreeTight quarters with a 35 foot fifth wheel. And sites are more like buddy sites, one neighbor is only a few feet away. But let's face it, we're not here to hang at the camper! We're here for the Motorcycle rides and hikes!
