Cranes Mill Park (USACE) About

For Texans, the call of the great outdoors is often answered by the myriad of stunning natural landscapes across the state. From rugged mountains to pristine coastlines, Texas offers diverse opportunities for outdoor recreation, and camping remains a beloved pastime for many. Campgrounds provide a vital connection to nature, allowing individuals and families to unplug, explore, and create lasting memories under the wide-open Texas sky. Whether you're a seasoned camper with all the gear or a newcomer eager to experience the tranquility of the wilderness, finding the right campground can elevate your outdoor adventure.

A campground is a dedicated area, typically managed by public or private entities, that provides designated sites for pitching tents or parking recreational vehicles (RVs). These sites often come equipped with basic amenities like picnic tables and fire rings, while more developed campgrounds may offer electrical and water hookups, restrooms, showers, and even boat ramps or fishing piers. The goal of a campground is to facilitate responsible outdoor recreation, offering a safe and structured environment for visitors to enjoy nature's beauty. In Texas, campgrounds are often found near lakes, rivers, or state parks, providing access to water sports, hiking trails, and wildlife viewing opportunities.

One such gem in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, overseen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), is Cranes Mill Park. Situated on the picturesque Canyon Lake, this campground offers both RV and tent camping options, inviting visitors to experience the serene beauty of the lake and its surroundings. While a recent review mentions challenges with insects, the park is highly regarded for its quiet atmosphere, shaded spots, and excellent lake access. For local Texans looking for a refreshing escape, Cranes Mill Park presents a compelling option for their next outdoor excursion.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) managed park, Cranes Mill Park typically operates under a standardized fee schedule set by the federal government. While specific "promotions" in the commercial sense (like discounted rates for specific periods or loyalty programs) are generally not offered, there are established pricing tiers and potential discounts for certain groups as part of federal recreation fee programs:

  • Standardized Fees: Campsite fees are typically set, for example, 50 amp sites with water are $35.00 per night, and tent-only sites (with water, no electric) are $26.00. These are consistent across USACE parks.
  • America the Beautiful Passes: Holders of various America the Beautiful – The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes (e.g., Senior Pass, Access Pass, Military Pass) often receive discounts on camping fees. For example, Senior and Access Pass holders may receive a 50% discount on standard amenity fees. Visitors should verify which passes are accepted and the specific discount applied at the time of reservation.
  • Reservations through Recreation.gov: All reservations for Cranes Mill Park are made through Recreation.gov, which is the federal government's recreation reservation system. While not a "promotion," booking through this official channel ensures transparent pricing and adherence to federal guidelines.
  • Boat Ramp Fee: There is typically a separate fee for using the boat ramp for non-campers, often around $5.00 per vehicle. Campers staying at the park usually have this access included.

Prospective campers are encouraged to visit Recreation.gov or contact the park directly to confirm the most current fee schedule and any applicable discounts based on federal pass eligibility.

It is very cool place. We spent this weekend there. Nice wheatear nice view. Very nice tables with really big roofs that delivers enough shadow. But I never saw so much ants ants and scorpions on the sites. Looks like park don't use enough deterrents to protect sites. For your understanding during weekend one scorpion bites one of our friend. Another one somehow hides on our stuff and we bring him home. and one more hides in our other friends stuff and they saw him in their garage.

There are several shaded spots, it's a very quiet area. They have RV and tent camping appts. Note that your car will not be parked right at your tent site. I would love to come back after the drought when the lake is full again.

Very clean place! Nice workers! I observe the attendants cleaning and hosing down the table. For the person who complained about ants and scorpions: This is a natural habitat and you are invading their space. Chemicals are not used in natural habitats!

We were at Cranes Mill for 2 weeks. The park is very well kept and the hosts are terrific. We had an issue with our levelers on our motorhome and couldn't move even with the help of a tech. We were supposed to move sites and couldn't. The people in charge were so accommodating and worked around us. Fortunately we had a neighbor that knew exactly what to do to manually raise them and get us on our way. We couldn't be more grateful. Thank you again.

Very nice park. Not a lot of rv spots though very nice. It is a shame the lake is so low. Host are very nice and the park is well maintained. Each day we viewed abundant deer everywhere.
