For New Yorkers seeking an authentic, no-frills camping experience that emphasizes value and location over luxury, CreekView Campsites in Rosendale, NY, offers a compelling solution. Situated in the heart of the scenic Hudson Valley, this small, seasonal campground provides a quiet, community-focused atmosphere that is a true departure from the large, resort-style parks. It is known for its reasonable prices and convenient access to local attractions, making it a popular choice for budget-conscious adventurers, including rock climbers visiting the nearby 'Gunks and cyclists exploring the Empire State Trail network.
CreekView Campsites provides a mix of accommodation types, primarily catering to traditional tent campers, but also offering a limited number of RV sites. Its focus is on providing the essential services—clean facilities and utility hookups—without the extensive activities roster of larger venues. Open seasonally, typically from mid-March to early December, the campground prides itself on a hands-on management approach, with staff noted by guests for being friendly, helpful, and accommodating. While a few older public records and past visitor experiences mention an appearance of disrepair or general aging, more recent reviews indicate that the core services—clean bathrooms, good water pressure, and a quiet setting—are well-maintained, suggesting the site is best suited for campers who value a functional, quiet basecamp over a manicured resort environment.
CreekView Campsites is uniquely positioned in Rosendale, a small but vibrant Ulster County town known for its artistic community and industrial history. The location offers exceptional proximity to both natural wonders and local amenities.

The campground is situated in the scenic Wallkill Valley area, which is highly prized by outdoor enthusiasts in the New York region. A major highlight is its close proximity to the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, which is part of the extensive Empire State Trail system. This makes CreekView Campsites a strategic and highly convenient stopover for cyclists and hikers traversing this section of New York State.
Furthermore, the campsite is an excellent base for rock climbers, as it sits close to the world-renowned climbing destinations on the Shawangunk Ridge, affectionately known as the 'Gunks. Crucially, the campsite is within walking distance of the small Town of Rosendale, allowing guests to easily access local shops, restaurants, and the historic Rosendale Theatre without needing to drive. It is located just a few miles northeast of New Paltz, providing easy access to a larger selection of services and SUNY New Paltz. The relatively short drive from NYC and other downstate New York areas solidifies its role as an accessible retreat for locals.
The services at CreekView Campsites are designed to meet the fundamental needs of traditional and short-stay campers, ensuring a comfortable and practical stay.
The true value of CreekView Campsites lies in its quiet atmosphere, central location, and the natural features it provides.

CreekView Campsites is perfectly positioned as an authentic and highly suitable getaway for New York residents. For locals across the downstate region and the Capital District, this campground offers a necessary antidote to city life or crowded tourist spots. It embodies the essence of simple, accessible outdoor recreation at a price point that makes frequent visits manageable.
Cyclists using the Empire State Trail find its proximity invaluable, offering a crucial and reliable place to rest in an area with limited camping options for trail users. Rock climbers know it as the historical, low-cost hub for accessing the world-class climbing routes of the Shawangunks. While the campground may lack the polished amenities of a resort, its strengths are its clean, essential facilities—hot water, good showers, and power hookups—combined with a quiet environment and a management team dedicated to friendly, responsive service. It’s an ideal option for local families, couples, and solo adventurers who appreciate the beauty of the Hudson Valley and prioritize an excellent location for outdoor activities over luxury comforts. It is a genuine, community-minded basecamp that delivers on the core promise of a quiet, restful night under the stars, just minutes from the best of Rosendale and the surrounding scenic trails.

We didn't reach anyone by phone nor was someone there in person. The place looked quite delapidated/abandoned, see pictures of "junkyard". This section if the empire state bicycle trail is a bit difficult in terms of finding a campsite. Luckily, we found a nice new place for cyclist campers just a few kilometers southwards (right at the trail). It is in called red fox meadows or so and also acts as a "cyclist cafe" occasionally.
Jul 29, 2025 · Silvio Sticher (Wuk wuk boom!)Small campground right in Rosendale. Clean bathrooms, hot water, good water pressure. Quiet. 4 rv sites and a dozen or so tent sites, probably more that don’t have water/electricity. Could use some updating, but the manager is nice and always willing to help. Price is great too.
