It means embracing the quiet beauty of the Green Mountains, enjoying starlit nights, and connecting with a friendly, tight-knit community. Crown Point Camping Area, nestled in the picturesque town of Perkinsville, has long served as a perfect base for these quintessential Vermont outdoor experiences. Located above the tranquil shores of Stoughton Pond, this family-owned and operated facility offers a blend of rustic charm and modern convenience that appeals to everyone from the seasonal RV owner to the "old-school outdoorsy type" looking for a private tent site.
From a local perspective, the campground’s setting is quintessentially Vermont. The atmosphere is generally quiet, kid-friendly, and dog-friendly, allowing you to relax to the sound of crickets and tree frogs at night. It’s an ideal spot for those who seek to unplug and enjoy the natural environment of central Vermont.
Introduction / Overview
Crown Point Camping Area is a private, family-oriented campground located in the heart of the Green Mountains in Perkinsville, VT. It prides itself on offering a quiet, friendly, and rustic atmosphere set within a mature, level pine plantation. This unique setting provides a soft, pine-needle blanket underfoot and a perfect balance of sun and shade, creating an ideal backdrop for any Vermont camping trip.
The campground caters to a diverse range of campers, offering a variety of site types to suit different preferences, from fully-equipped RVs to traditional tent-only camping. Notably, Crown Point operates during both the summer and winter seasons, which is a significant advantage for Vermont outdoor enthusiasts. The summer season typically runs from May 1st to mid-October, while winter camping is available on a monthly or seasonal basis from December 1st through March 31st, providing direct access to the state's extensive VAST snowmobile trail network. Customer feedback consistently praises the park's cleanliness, the quality of its amenities like hot and free showers, and the overall peaceful, off-the-grid feel, even with available Wi-Fi access. However, like any busy spot, there are occasional reports of customer service issues and minor electric inconsistencies, particularly during peak times, which management continually works to address.

I wish this could have been different, the young lady at the desk was very nice when my wife and I got there. I got to the site and had no power, which I rented a site with power and water. I went back to the office to let someone know that I didn't have power and the owner was there, I waited patiently for her to get off the phone and explained my situation, I also said I checked the breakers and tried the resets, I was confronted with a "sucks being you". I was a little taken by surprise because I was not sure what was going on. it took me. second to respond and I said "well I guess so" and then she said she would send someone to look at. I left and went back to the site. no one came. luckily there was no on either camp sites around us and luckily I brought an extension cord. the next day no one came again, I live close so I drove home and grabbed a longer extension cord so it would reach our site. Never mind that the wood I bought was wet, so I grabbed my own wood from home, but that's not even a big deal either. I left Sunday with a bad feeling about what happened. My wife and I hadn't camped in 20+ yrs and thought we would give it shot again and this place was close and it looked nice. and this is how I confronted with a situation. the place is a clean place and very convenient but if you want to deal with someone like that, good luck.
Jul 12, 2025 · V-TWINWe are very simple people, we just need a tent site in the woods, electricity and water not necessary--and the folks here not only came through, but we were impressed with the views from atop the boundary marker overlooking Stoughton Pond! Private, quiet--spacious. All of the neighbors (majority seasonal in RVs) also were super-friendly, sociable, good-natured people. Dog-friendly, kid-friendly...all you can hear at 10PM are the crickets and tree frogs. I love the history behind the Crown Point historical trail that stops up in Lake Champlain crossing into New York State as well, the cemetery across the street, and the picturesque views driving past on the way in of a local farm and meadow. Bathrooms are clean, showers are hot and free, WiFi is a cinch (though in a tent site we liked the off-the-grid feel). I cannot speak to going as an RV owner nor seasonal rate-holder, but as an old-school outdoorsy type like myself? It was perfect. My earliest memories are of this campground--In my fourth decade of life, it was so amazing to be back here after 36 years! Next time, we will save up and plan ahead to stay a week. We originally wanted to head to the shoreline and camp down Route 1, but--This was a much better choice, by far!
Jul 13, 2025 · LJ ADidn't stay here but the owner and family are fantastic people. Very clean and well kept campground. Quiet, peaceful, and family oriented.
Jul 16, 2025 · Bryan JalavaWas super disappointed at the service at Crown Point. The campground was clean but tight to get into if you have bigger campers. We camp with a large group and actually all booked together. The owner made sure to sit near our group to catch us talking after quiet hours and expected us to not gather on more than groups of 4. I could understand if we were loud but we weren’t. Was very unsettling and she was not kind. Activities were posted but never followed through with the exception of the owners birthday. Any interactions with the owner from check in to check out was met with rudeness. The 10 other families and I will not be back. We have never been treated like that at a campground.
May 27, 2024 · Kiernan OsgoodThis place is a hidden gem. The staff is awesome! They helped us get settled into our spot (we have a big rig and tow). The beach was extremely clean and lagoon was warm and relaxing. The entire campground was extremely clean and well maintained. The staff did a courtesy call the day before to make sure we didn't have questions getting into the area due to flooding in the area. If we come to Vermont we'll definitely stay again.
