Let's dive into what makes this Huntington gem a place worth considering for your next Indiana outdoor adventure or long-term recreational needs.

Location and Accessibility

Dry Dock Campground & Storage is conveniently located at 5762 S 700 W, Huntington, IN 46750, USA. This puts it squarely in Huntington County, Indiana, an area known for its beautiful lakes, reservoirs, and a charming rural landscape. The campground's position offers the best of both worlds: a peaceful country setting with relatively easy access to local towns and natural attractions.

From the perspective of an Indiana resident, the accessibility to Dry Dock is a significant advantage:

  • Proximity to Salamonie Reservoir: A major highlight of Dry Dock Campground & Storage is its close proximity to the Salamonie Reservoir. The Mt. Etna boat ramp is just down the street, making it incredibly convenient for campers to launch their boats, kayaks, or paddleboards and enjoy the vast waters of the reservoir. Salamonie Reservoir is a popular destination for fishing (largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, redear, and channel catfish), boating sports like wakeboarding and skiing, and finding quiet coves.
  • Easy Navigation: To find the campground, locals can head down State Road 124 to 700 W, then turn north towards the Mt. Etna boat ramp. The area is well-signposted for campers, with the gravel entrance clearly visible on the left side. This straightforward navigation minimizes travel stress, allowing visitors to quickly settle into their vacation.
  • Access to Huntington: While offering a serene country setting, Dry Dock is still within reasonable driving distance of the city of Huntington. Huntington provides essential amenities such as grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and other services. This means campers have the convenience of stocking up on supplies or enjoying a meal out without having to travel far from their campsite.
  • Connectivity to Major Routes: Huntington itself is well-connected via state roads, providing easy access from various parts of Indiana. This makes Dry Dock Campground a viable destination for campers coming from Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, or other surrounding areas, offering a true escape without an overly arduous journey.
  • Rural Charm: The address in Zanesville, within Huntington County, ensures a genuine rural experience. This appeals to Hoosiers looking to unplug and enjoy the quiet beauty of the Indiana countryside, with fresh air and starry nights, while still having amenities relatively close by.

Overall, Dry Dock Campground & Storage's location is a prime feature, offering both immediate access to the natural recreational opportunities of Salamonie Reservoir and the practical convenience of nearby town services, making it an excellent choice for Indiana residents.

Services Offered

Dry Dock Campground & Storage offers a range of services designed to make seasonal camping and recreational vehicle storage convenient and enjoyable for its patrons. These services cater to both the camping experience and the practical needs of RV and boat owners.

  • Seasonal Campsites: The primary offering is seasonal campsites. This allows campers to have a dedicated spot for their RV for the entire camping season (typically April 1st to October 31st), eliminating the need to haul their rig in and out repeatedly. The current seasonal rate is $2000.00 per season, due by April 1st.
  • Full Hookups: Each seasonal campsite is equipped with full hookups, including water and wastewater connections. Most sites also feature 30-amp electric connections, with electricity billed separately on a monthly basis. This ensures a comfortable and convenient stay with all essential utilities.
  • Indoor/Outdoor Storage: Dry Dock provides both indoor and outdoor storage options for boats and recreational vehicles. Outdoor storage starts at $30.00 per month, while indoor storage availability and pricing require direct inquiry as it can be full. This service is a significant convenience for RV and boat owners in Indiana, allowing them to store their vehicles securely close to the reservoir.
  • Boat Storage Lots: Each campsite is allowed to store one boat, which must be kept on one of the dedicated boat storage lots if it doesn't fit directly at the campsite. Additional boats can be stored for a fee of $30.00 per month.
  • Guest Policy: Guests and family members are permitted to visit, but they must sign in by filling out a questionnaire online. There's a limit of 6 guests per campsite unless approved by management, and overnight stays for guests are only allowed if the primary camper is also present.
  • Campsite Maintenance: Management mows what they can with a riding mower, but campers are responsible for keeping their individual campsites clean and picked up (e.g., dog chains, stacked wood, debris). Failure to do so may result in management mowing and charging accordingly.
  • Payment Options: Payments for electric bills (due on the 1st of the month with a $10 late fee after the 5th) and site fees can be made online via turbotenant.com or by check via dropbox or mail.
  • Dumpster & Burn Pile Access: Residents have access to a dumpster for bagged trash (no fish guts/scraps allowed) and a burn pile for burnable items only (no cement, metals, or shingles).
  • Pet Policy: Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash or tied to the campsite per state law. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Dogs should not be left unattended at campsites, and excessive barking can lead to a ban.

It's important to note that the campground is closed from November 1st to March 31st, and it is not intended as a permanent residence, with rules against mail or packages being delivered. Also, the website notes "No Refunds of any kind," which is an important policy for prospective campers to be aware of.

Features / Highlights

Dry Dock Campground & Storage offers several key features and highlights that enhance the experience for its campers and storage customers. These aspects contribute to its appeal for those seeking a recreational retreat in Indiana.

  • Seasonal Camping Focus: The primary highlight is its dedication to seasonal camping. This is ideal for Hoosiers who own an RV and want a consistent, hassle-free place to spend their entire camping season (April 1st to October 31st) without the constant setup and teardown. This fosters a strong sense of community among repeat visitors.
  • Prime Lakeside Location: Situated very close to the Salamonie Reservoir and the Mt. Etna boat ramp, Dry Dock is perfect for water enthusiasts. Campers have immediate access to boating, fishing, wakeboarding, and other water sports. The "beautiful lake" is a consistent highlight in reviews, making it a picturesque backdrop for outdoor activities.
  • Friendly and Fun Atmosphere: One of the most glowing reviews emphasizes the "all around great campground" with "fun and friendly people." This positive social environment is a significant draw, indicating a welcoming community where campers can relax and connect with like-minded individuals. The presence of such a positive social dynamic can transform a simple campsite into a memorable experience.
  • Cleanliness and Maintenance: Reviewers have noted that the campground is "clean," which is a crucial feature for any outdoor facility. A well-maintained and tidy environment enhances comfort and enjoyment for all guests.
  • Impressive Holiday Events: The mention of an "amazing" fireworks display for the 4th of July weekend (even if not explicitly offered by the campground itself, but enjoyed from the location) highlights the festive atmosphere during key holidays. This suggests that the campground provides a great vantage point or contributes to a lively holiday experience. (Note: Campground rules state "No Fireworks allowed," so the display mentioned was likely from the broader lake area, visible from the campground).
  • Integrated Storage Solutions: The inclusion of indoor and outdoor storage for boats and RVs on-site is a huge convenience. This "dry dock" feature allows campers to store their recreational vehicles securely at the same location where they camp, simplifying logistics and protecting their investments.
  • Full Hookup Sites: Providing full hookups (water, sewer, electric) on all seasonal sites ensures a comfortable RV camping experience, eliminating the need for frequent trips to dump stations or external water sources.

While one review did highlight issues with the website's functionality regarding rates and availability, the core features of a friendly atmosphere, lakeside access, and comprehensive storage solutions make Dry Dock Campground & Storage an appealing option for long-term recreational enjoyment in Indiana.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the provided information, Dry Dock Campground & Storage primarily operates on a seasonal campsite rental model and offers monthly storage. Specific short-term promotions or special offers are not explicitly detailed in the available public data or reviews. However, the pricing structure and booking process indicate how prospective Hoosier campers and storage customers can engage with their offerings:

  • Seasonal Campsite Rate: The rate for a seasonal campsite for the 2025 season is $2000.00. A deposit of $500 for the 2025 season is due by October 1st, 2024, with the remaining balance of $1500 due by April 1st, 2025. This upfront pricing for the full season is their standard offering.
  • Storage Rates: Outdoor storage starts at $30.00 per month. For indoor storage, potential customers are advised to call for availability and pricing, as it can be full.
  • Wait List for Campsites: Dry Dock Campground maintains a waitlist for those interested in a campsite. Individuals can fill out a form on their website to be added to the list, indicating their RV length (under 30 ft, 31-39 ft, over 40 ft), amperage (30 AMP or less, 50 AMP), and RV year. There's also an option to express interest in buying a camper already at the campground. This indicates high demand and a structured approach to filling seasonal spots.
  • No Refunds Policy: It's important for prospective customers to be aware that the campground states, "No Refunds of any kind will be issued." This policy means that once payments are made, they are generally non-refundable, which is a crucial financial consideration.

One review pointed out that the website "only shows email address which bounces your email. No rates/availability or any other helpful information whatsoever." This suggests that prospective customers might face challenges in finding transparent, real-time information about current openings or any potential last-minute deals. Therefore, while no specific "promotions" are listed, the structured seasonal booking and the waitlist system are how they manage demand. For current availability beyond the waitlist, or for specific storage pricing, direct contact via phone is recommended.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Hoosiers across Indiana, Dry Dock Campground & Storage presents a highly suitable and appealing option for those seeking a dedicated seasonal camping experience combined with convenient recreational vehicle storage. Its unique blend of location, community, and practical services makes it an excellent choice for a specific segment of our state's outdoor enthusiasts.

The primary suitability for locals lies in the concept of seasonal camping. For many Indiana residents who own an RV or travel trailer, the hassle of constantly moving their rig, finding new spots, and setting up camp each weekend can be tiresome. Dry Dock alleviates this by offering a consistent, reserved spot for the entire camping season. This "home away from home" setup fosters a deeper connection with the campground and allows for more spontaneous and relaxed weekend getaways, maximizing leisure time for busy families and individuals.

Furthermore, its prime location near the beautiful Salamonie Reservoir is a significant draw. For Hoosiers who enjoy boating, fishing, or simply being by the water, having the Mt. Etna boat ramp just down the street is an unparalleled convenience. This direct access to one of Indiana's cherished natural resources means more time spent on the water and less time traveling. The "beautiful lake" and the promise of "amazing" holiday experiences (like fireworks displays enjoyed from the site) enhance the overall appeal for local families looking for memorable outdoor adventures close to home.

The sense of community and the friendly atmosphere, as highlighted by a resident ("fun and friendly people," "all around great campground"), is another key factor in its suitability. For many locals, a campground isn't just a place to park; it's a place to connect, build friendships, and create lasting memories. Dry Dock seems to cultivate this welcoming environment, making it a comfortable and enjoyable retreat.

Finally, the integrated storage solutions are a game-changer for RV and boat owners. Having secure indoor or outdoor storage right at the campground simplifies logistics tremendously, eliminating the need for separate storage facilities and extra travel. This thoughtful combination of camping and storage services caters directly to the practical needs of Indiana recreational vehicle enthusiasts, providing a seamless and efficient experience.

While the website's functionality for finding rates and availability could be improved, the core offerings of a seasonal lakeside spot, a friendly community, and convenient storage make Dry Dock Campground & Storage an ideal choice for any Indiana resident looking for a dedicated, hassle-free, and enjoyable camping and outdoor lifestyle near the water.
