Eglin Family Campground About
Are you an active duty military member, a veteran, a DoD civilian, or a reservist in Florida seeking an exceptional RV camping experience that combines natural beauty, convenient amenities, and a sense of community? Look no further than Eglin Family Campground, also known as Eglin AFB FamCamp, located right on the sprawling Eglin Air Force Base in Florida's stunning Panhandle. This exclusive destination offers not one, but two distinct camping areas – Camp Robbins and Post'l Point – each providing unique features to cater to your preferences for a memorable Florida getaway.
Florida is a top destination for RV travel, offering everything from sun-drenched beaches to serene national forests. For those within the military community, finding a campground that understands their specific needs, provides excellent facilities, and offers a secure environment is paramount. Eglin Family Campground delivers on all these fronts, serving as an ideal base for exploring the vibrant Emerald Coast or simply enjoying a peaceful retreat amidst nature.
What truly sets Eglin Family Campground apart is its dual nature, offering varied experiences within the same overall facility. Camp Robbins, often considered the main FamCamp, provides a more traditional RV park experience with full hookups and a convenient location close to base amenities. Reviewers consistently praise Camp Robbins for its "FHU" (Full Hook Ups), "level sights," and quiet setting. It's described as being "close to everything, PX, Commissary, Starbucks all within walking distance." This makes it incredibly convenient for longer stays or for those who appreciate easy access to daily necessities.
On the other hand, Post'l Point offers a truly unique waterfront experience. Guests rave about its "beautiful view of the water" and being "on a point looking at the bay and Destin Bridge, beautiful view." While Post'l Point sites may only offer partial hookups (water, electric, cable TV, but no sewer at individual sites), a dump station is readily available. The trade-off for the mesmerizing bay views is well worth it for many, offering stunning sunrises and sunsets over Choctawhatchee Bay. One guest stated, "This place was a gem!" after being initially hesitant about the "spartan, but clean restrooms" at Post'l Point, proving that its natural beauty truly shines through.
Both FamCamp locations are consistently lauded for being "very pet friendly," which is a "BIG PLUS" for many families traveling with their beloved companions. Strict but fair pet policies ensure a pleasant experience for everyone, with requirements for leashing and cleaning up after pets. The staff across both sites is generally described as "courteous," "great camp hosts," and "excellent," working hard to ensure a positive stay for all eligible patrons.
While the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, some minor drawbacks are noted. The lack of individual sewer hookups at Post'l Point is mentioned, though the availability of a dump station mitigates this. Another significant point of concern raised by a reviewer for Post'l Point is the "possibility of a bad weather evacuation" with "no plan in place for where you can go until it reopens." This highlights a critical consideration for campers during Florida's hurricane season, emphasizing the need for personal preparedness. However, the benefits, including beautiful views, access to base amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere, generally outweigh these concerns for many loyal patrons.
Eglin Family Campground is strategically located at 1711 Shambo Cove Road, Eglin AFB, FL 32542, USA. This address places it directly within the secure confines of Eglin Air Force Base, one of the largest Air Force installations in the world, situated in Florida's beautiful Panhandle. Eglin AFB is nestled between the cities of Niceville and Valparaiso, and is just a short, convenient drive from the popular tourist destination of Destin.
For eligible Floridians (Active Duty, National Guard, Reservists, Retired Military, 100% DAV, Purple Heart Recipients, Former POW, Veteran Caregivers, and DoD Civilians), access to Eglin Family Campground requires presenting a valid military or DoD ID at the base gates. This controlled access ensures a secure and exclusive environment for campers. The main gate is accustomed to handling larger RVs, making entry generally smooth. Once on base, both Camp Robbins and Post'l Point are clearly signposted, with Camp Robbins being near the BX/Commissary and Post'l Point near the Outdoor Recreation Center and the water.
The campground's location on base provides immediate access to a wide array of Eglin AFB amenities, including the Commissary (grocery store), Base Exchange (BX) for shopping, various dining options, and recreational facilities. Furthermore, its proximity to the Mid-Bay Bridge (a toll road) offers quick and easy access to Destin's world-renowned beaches, vibrant harbor, countless restaurants, and entertainment options. This strategic positioning allows campers to enjoy the tranquility of a military recreation area while having the bustling attractions of the Emerald Coast within easy reach. Whether traveling from other parts of Florida or within the local area, the well-maintained road networks leading to Eglin AFB ensure a straightforward journey.

- Security: Being located on an Air Force Base provides an enhanced sense of security and a quiet environment.
As a U.S. Air Force FamCamp, Eglin Family Campground operates under federal recreation fee structures and provides benefits primarily to eligible military and DoD personnel rather than offering public commercial promotions. However, there are established programs and pricing structures that offer value:
- Standardized Rates: Both Camp Robbins and Post'l Point offer competitive daily, weekly, and monthly rates. For instance, rates for RV sites with hookups are typically around $35-$40 daily, with weekly ($225-$250) and monthly ($700-$800) options providing significant savings for longer stays. Tent sites are available at a lower daily rate (e.g., $12-$15).
- Reservations System: Eglin FamCamp operates on a reservation-only basis. Reservations can be made up to 120 days in advance for both long-term (up to 180 days stay) and short-term (up to 14 days stay) sites. A non-refundable deposit is required ($100 for long-term, $58 for short-term).
- Stay Limits: There are maximum stay limits (e.g., 180 days total in a 365-day period for long-term sites, or 30 days then vacate for 30 days at other times). These limits help ensure availability for a wider range of patrons.
- USAF Frequent Camper Coupon: This coupon is sometimes accepted with a 3-night stay, offering potential discounts for frequent visitors to USAF FamCamps.
- Sponsored Guest Policy: Eligible DoD ID cardholders can sponsor guests for short-term stays, making it possible for authorized personnel to share the FamCamp experience with friends or extended family. Note that sponsored guests typically pay higher rates.
For the most current rates, specific reservation policies, and any details on the acceptance of federal passes or specific discounts, it is always recommended to visit the official Eglin AFB 96th Force Support Squadron website (EglinFSS.com) or contact the FamCamp office directly. Customer Reviews
We stayed here in May 2025, and I would definitely go back. Had a beautiful view of the water, very pet friendly (BIG PLUS), close to the Outdoor Recreation beach area, and close to post amenities. The only drawback was the sites had no dump, but there was a dump station. We would definitely stay here again.
Great monthly rates! Beautiful views at Postyl Point and lots of trails to walk at both FamCamp sites. Staff was generally courteous but very stringent on the rules. One big negative is if you stay at Postyl Point, there is the possibility of a bad weather evacuation. The troubling part is that there's no plan in place for where you can go until it reopens. Basically fend for yourself and have fun with your big rig out there in the storm...
Thought this was a great place until we got two warnings that were absolutely ridiculous! One was for having too many vehicles… when other people had the exact same amount and never moved. the other was for parking in the grass. Which i would understand if the grass was beautiful, but it was not most places were just filled w sand/rocks instead of grass. we had half of our tire in the grass and we’re told it was against the rules, when there was other people parked like this. I have posted pictures below! I recommend the Fort Bennington site that is absolutely beautiful and it’s just right across from the AFB.
Campground is very nice, close to beach, commissary, but had to leave early to death in family. Have had to call many times to get credit on card, each time I'm told they will call back and they haven't yet, been 3 weeks. Not happy at all.
In my opinion, Camp Robbins MWR, I have never seen a MWR steal your money. Staff is subpar and dishonest at best. Once I pursued Felony theft charges, all of a sudden they sent me a refund. Be very careful around these people.
