Featherstone County Park About

Iowa, with its surprising array of beautiful lakes and tranquil natural spaces, provides ample opportunities for locals to escape into the great outdoors. Among these cherished destinations, Featherstone County Park in Manson stands out as a charming and highly accessible option for camping and cabin stays. This county-managed park offers a delightful blend of lakeside recreation and comfortable amenities, making it a popular choice for Iowans seeking a refreshing break from their daily routines. Whether you're an avid angler, a family looking for a clean and spacious cabin, or a camper who enjoys being right on the water, Featherstone County Park promises a memorable experience.

Nestled on the shores of one of Twin Lakes, Featherstone County Park truly embraces its lakeside setting. The immediate proximity to the water is a consistent highlight for visitors, offering stunning views and easy access to aquatic activities. The park is often described as a good place to stay for a county campground, exceeding expectations with its dedication to cleanliness and visitor convenience. The spacious and clean Walleye cabin, for instance, provides a comfortable "home away from home," with a dock directly in front for immediate lake access, perfect for those who want to wake up to the water’s edge.

While some camper sites might be close together, creating a more communal atmosphere than absolute privacy, many are right on the water, offering picturesque views and the soothing sounds of the lake. The convenience of having a boat ramp directly within the campground is a significant advantage for those bringing their own watercraft, making it simple to launch and retrieve boats for a day of fishing or leisurely cruising. Although the lake is described as relatively flat with little depth variation or structure, visitors have reported catching "tons of bullhead off the dock," indicating that fishing opportunities abound, even if by boat it requires a bit more luck. The clean shower house also contributes positively to the overall experience, ensuring a comfortable stay for all campers.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a county-managed facility, Featherstone County Park generally operates on a standard fee schedule for its campsites and cabins, rather than offering frequent commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the traditional sense. The inherent "offer" or value proposition of Featherstone County Park lies in its accessible lakeside location and the amenities it provides at a county park price point. Visitors consistently highlight that for a county campground, it's a "good place to stay," implying that the standard rates offer excellent value for the facilities and scenic environment provided.

Potential "offers" might informally include the convenience of having a boat ramp directly within the campground, which saves users the time and potential fees of using an external ramp. The availability of clean cabins with direct dock access also represents significant value for those seeking a more comfortable stay by the lake. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on cabin rental rates, camping fees (including any potential seasonal variations or long-term stay discounts), and specific details regarding amenities like water and electric hookups (e.g., hose length considerations), it is highly recommended to contact the Calhoun County Conservation Board directly, as they manage the park. Their official website or a direct phone call would provide the most current and factual pricing information.

We stayed in the Walleye cabin. It was spacious and clean. The lake is right there in front of the cabin, and there is a dock directly in front of this cabin. This cabin did not have a heater, though, and none of the cabins at this park allow dogs. The campground was quiet in mid-October. The shower house was clean. Most of the camper sites are small and very close together. Some are right on the water. There is a boat ramp in the campground, which was very convenient. We caught tons of bullhead off the dock but had little luck fishing via boat. This lake is very flat with very little depth variation or structure.

We stayed here in August of 2021. For being a county campground, it's a good place to stay. I like how it's basically on the water. The sites are close together, so there is not a whole lot of privacy. Wouldn't mind the water & electric hookups to be a tad closer. Our water hose didn't reach but luckily my sister & brother-in-law got us another hose.

New camp host this year along with my significant other Jeff. Along with the new director there are changes at the park itself making everyone's experience a better one. We take pride in our work and are here for you. Look for the park to be adding activities for children, families and friends. See you soon

Please install a handle on the boat dock. It is impossible for an old man, like me, to get out of the boat at the docj. Hadn't been for a couple of nice ladies that pulled me up, I'd probably still be there. Thank you and I'll be back. The fishing was great...
