Fort Clinch Amelia River Campground About
For Floridians seeking a peaceful and nature-filled escape that combines the tranquility of riverfront living with the convenience of a well-maintained state park, Fort Clinch Amelia River Campground in Fernandina Beach offers an exceptional camping experience. Nestled within the historic Fort Clinch State Park on Amelia Island, this campground provides a unique blend of natural beauty, abundant wildlife, and top-tier facilities, making it a beloved destination for RV and tent campers alike.
The Amelia River Campground is consistently praised by visitors for its serene atmosphere and the exceptional quality of its amenities. Campers love how the sites are "very generous, well spaced, cozy campsites tucked beneath old oak canopies," creating a sense of privacy and natural immersion. Imagine enjoying your morning coffee under the shade of majestic live oaks draped with Spanish moss, a quintessential Old Florida ambiance that truly sets this campground apart. Even on "windy weekends," your campsite offers "well protected" comfort, ensuring a pleasant stay regardless of the weather.
One of the most frequently highlighted aspects of this campground is the outstanding cleanliness and quality of its facilities. Reviewers consistently rave about the "sparkling clean" and "new clean climate controlled and spacious" bathhouses, often calling them the "gold standard for State Park facilities." The presence of "plenty of hot water" and on-site washer and dryer amenities adds a significant layer of comfort and convenience, making your camping trip feel less like roughing it and more like a true retreat.
Beyond the comfort of your campsite, the Amelia River Campground offers unparalleled opportunities for wildlife viewing. Guests frequently spot "deer, armadillo, gopher tortoises, osprey," and a wide variety of other fascinating creatures, providing a constant connection to Florida’s diverse ecosystem. The location along the St. Marys River and its proximity to the jetty means you can enjoy "walking along the river to the jetty and the ocean," and even "watch the boats and larger ships" navigating the channel, offering a unique blend of natural and maritime activity.
While the campground is not within quick walking distance of a swimming beach (the Atlantic Beach Campground, also in Fort Clinch State Park, serves that purpose), the short distance to the ocean and the Fort itself means you're never far from adventure. The occasional presence of "no-see-ems" is a minor note, easily managed with repellent, allowing you to fully appreciate the peaceful environment. With hosts doing an "amazing job" and a strong likelihood of "level" sites, it’s no wonder so many campers declare this their "new Florida State favorite" and plan to "definitely be back!"

As a highly-regarded campground within the Florida State Parks system, Fort Clinch Amelia River Campground operates under a standardized fee structure, rather than offering frequent commercial promotions or discounts in the traditional retail sense. The inherent "special offer" here is the exceptional value provided by a meticulously maintained facility, combined with an outstanding natural setting and access to a wealth of historical and recreational activities, all at a very reasonable state park rate.
While specific flash sales are not part of their operational model, visitors may find cost benefits through:
- Florida State Parks Annual Pass: For frequent visitors to Florida State Parks, an annual pass can cover the park entrance fee for the pass holder and passengers in their vehicle. While it does not directly reduce camping fees, it can lead to overall savings for those who visit Fort Clinch and other state parks multiple times throughout the year.
- Senior and Disability Discounts: Florida residents who are 65 years of age or older or who hold a Social Security disability award certificate or a 100% disability award certificate from the federal government are typically eligible for a 50% discount on current base campsite fees. (It's important to note that the reservation fee and utility fee are usually excluded from this discount, and documentation must be presented at check-in.)
- Seasonal Pricing: While the base rates are largely consistent, booking during off-peak seasons might offer more availability and a quieter experience, which many campers consider a valuable benefit in itself.
Reservations for Fort Clinch Amelia River Campground are highly recommended due to its popularity, especially during Florida's peak camping seasons. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on camping fees, availability, and eligibility for any specific discounts, please contact the park directly or visit the official Florida State Parks website.

Its unique combination of serene natural beauty, outstanding facilities, and abundant recreational opportunities, all within the familiar and beloved landscape of their home state, makes it a true gem.

Customer Reviews
We love this campground! The hosts do an amazing job and the bathrooms are sparkling clean. I think most sites are level (22 and 53 are ones we had and they are). We enjoy walking along the river to the jetty and the ocean. Also, it's fun to watch the boats and larger ships. A few notes: this campground is not within quick walking distance of a swimming beach, there are bugs including tiny "no-see-ems" so bring your spray, the sites are basically dirt so make sure to have a doormat. Despite these few items, this is still 5-stars for us and we've been to about 30 campgrounds over the last year. We'll definitely be back!
Our new Florida State favorite! Wildlife and privacy abound. We saw deer, armadillo, gopher tortoises, osprey etc. Very generous well spaced cozy campsites tucked beneath old oak canopies. Even on windy weekends your campsite is well protected from anything more than a slight comfortable breeze. The bath house is THE gold standard for State Park facilities. New clean climate controlled and spacious. No cramped little showers here! Washer and dryer present for those needing such amenities.
Wonderful park..we have loved camping here for years. So much to love... very peaceful place, great views of beach and fort, shaded hiking trails, large RV and tent spots, always clean facilities and helpful, informative staff. Special shoutout to Ranger Annie and Melissa in the office for making this year the best one yet.
My favorite so far! Nice campground, trail, beach, and close to everything.
Very good place to camp or visit. Campgrounds are clean..sites are spacious. Bathhouses are clean and well kept. Great beach and river access. Magnificent sunrises and sunsets. Lots of history and nature to explore. The only negative is folks who think they don't have to follow any rules and don't have any respect for anything or anyone...
