Introduction / Overview
For Connecticut residents, finding a convenient and affordable place to park the RV or pitch a tent for a weekend escape is key to enjoying the beautiful New England summer season. Gibson Hill RV Park, located in Sterling, CT, offers a sizable property dedicated to this purpose. The park is nestled on 60 acres in the state's historic "Quiet Corner," positioning it perfectly for those who appreciate a rustic, wooded setting while remaining within easy reach of regional attractions.
As with many established parks, Gibson Hill RV Park has experienced shifts in management and infrastructure over the years, leading to varied customer experiences. It is currently operating under what is noted by some reviewers as "new ownership," with a manager who is often described as "very friendly and helpful," doing "everything he could to make us comfortable." This suggests a commitment to improving the guest experience. While past issues related to communication and website accuracy have been reported—such as amenities not being fully operational—recent feedback indicates efforts toward renewal. One recent, more positive review highlights the park as "clean and quiet... good for family camping," with friendly seasonal campers, reinforcing that the core value of a peaceful camping environment remains a strong draw for locals.
Prospective Connecticut campers should always confirm the operational status of specific amenities like the pool or game room when booking, acknowledging that the park is actively undergoing revitalization to better serve the local community.

And that’s a generous review. Website is complete false advertising. Couldn’t call the campground, customer service line couldn’t answer any of my questions and management was completely unapologetic. Advertising a heated pool that was never working this season according to the grounds keeper. He also noted “nothing for kids here” despite the website amenities. The office is not labeled and looks like a shack which was closed at 4. When we arrived I was given the wrong entry code when then a women who appeared high approached to let us in. Neither she nor the grounds keeper knew where our “premium” site was. Game room was hilarious as it had three games and a broken household stove in it. The bathroom in there were remodeled as advertised. Nothing else was accurate on the website. When I finally spoke to a supervisor he was defensive instead of acknowledging his failures. Very disappointing.

Sep 13, 2025 · Alexander StantonArrived to this campground with high expectations because their camping listing offers so much. I arrive told him I was checking in and he points to a random spot and says park anywhere. Doesn’t ask me for my name or reservation. I asked him if he wanted to know who I was he said no you booked online just park over there. The listing Mentions live band on weekends with food package which I paid for. The man who runs this tells me they don’t have that and the website is wrong. Contact the website for a refund. Then tells me to be careful because there’s lots of ticks here. I didn’t find any luckily. This place is a ghost town. The pool was clean, you have to be careful with the liner because it wasn’t installed correctly and you can pop it in the corners. There is no dedicated hike spot. Just pick a random spot in the woods they said. If I had to guess it’s just a bunch of older men who run this place who really don’t care because they’re retired. I will never return. False promises on the listing on hip camp listing
Aug 15, 2022 · J BI booked my stay through HipCamp. It was easy to book. We arrived to the park around midnight and pitched a tent in a random location since we couldn't find the tent site we booked. The bathroom and shower were clean enough, but there were a lot of spiders around the toilets. On our way out, we stopped by the front office to check out. The man that greeted me was very kind, and didn't mind that we had pitched our tent somewhere random. I didn't need to do anything to check out since I booked the site through HipCamp.
