Access to Governor's Campground is straightforward, though some roads leading into the area, especially those deeper into the hollows around Manchester, can be "narrow." However, the campground itself is part of the city park, and the main access roads are generally manageable for RVs and trailers. Reviewers with large toy haulers and fifth wheels confirm successful navigation to the concrete pads. The city of Manchester ensures the campground is "very well maintained and kept cleaned," contributing to easy internal accessibility. While the roads leading into the area might require a bit of patience due to their winding nature and occasional gravel surfaces, this is typical for scenic drives in Kentucky’s beautiful mountain region and well worth the journey for the natural beauty that awaits. - Family-Friendly Amenities: With "playgrounds for the kids" and designated "spots for campers," the resort is clearly designed with families in mind. The basketball court and Gaga ball pit further enhance recreational options for younger guests, ensuring they have "so much fun!"
- Proximity to Bert T. Combs Lake: The campground is adjacent to Beech Creek Lake and a "short walk" from Bert T. Combs Lake, offering excellent opportunities for fishing and small watercraft. This makes it a great spot for water lovers.
- Concrete Pads and Full Hookups: Many RV sites feature concrete pads and full hookups (electric, water, sewer), providing a level and convenient setup for larger rigs and toy haulers, which is a significant advantage for RV campers.
- Year-Round Operation: Governor's Campground is open year-round, offering flexibility for campers to visit during any season and enjoy the changing beauty of the Kentucky landscape.
- Security and Oversight: While not explicitly a "security guard" in traditional terms, the observation about grass cutting by prisoners, though potentially "uncomfortable at times," implies a level of ongoing presence and maintenance within the park, which contributes to its overall management and care.
- Special Events and Community Vibe: The campground is known for hosting "special events throughout the year especially on holiday weekends," creating a festive atmosphere. One review even highlighted participation in Halloween events, showcasing a vibrant community spirit.
These features collectively make Governor's Campground a highly appealing choice for those seeking both adventure and a warm, community-oriented camping experience in Manchester, Kentucky.
While Governor's Campground, operated by the City of Manchester, may not always advertise extensive commercial promotions in the way a private resort might, there are several practical considerations and potential "offers" that benefit campers.
- Consistent Rates: Publicly run campgrounds often have stable, competitive rates that provide consistent value without significant fluctuations. It's best to call directly for the most current pricing.
- Holiday Weekend Popularity: The campground is "commonly booked completely during these festive seasons," suggesting that while there might not be "discounts" during holidays, the very fact of securing a spot during these peak times could be seen as a valuable "offer" in itself due to high demand. Booking well in advance for these periods is highly recommended.
- Long-Term Stays: Given the campground's appeal to repeat visitors who come "multiple times a year" and stay for extended periods (some for up to six years), it's advisable to inquire about any potential weekly or monthly rates that might offer savings over daily rates.
- Direct Booking Advantages: As noted by a reviewer, the host Peggy's dedication means "it may take some time to respond back for reservations" because it's a "side gig." However, this direct communication often allows for more personalized service, where you can discuss your specific needs and potentially learn about any unadvertised availability or arrangements that might serve as a special offer for your particular situation. Patience and direct contact are key.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any potential special arrangements, the best approach is always to contact Governor's Campground directly via phone.

Customer Reviews
I want to start out by clarifying my expectations of this campground may be different than others. I really like this place. I come to ride side by sides on the trails around Manchester not sit at the campground. I also have a toy hauler with everything I need so the amenities like bathrooms and showers do not matter to me. The people are really friendly. In fact this will be our 6 year visiting multiple times a year from Cincinnati. We have made life long friends during our stay. The only thing I could say that is negative is the grass is cut by the prisoners which can be uncomfortable at times. Also that they blow it all over you stuff as they wait to long to maintain it. Peggy who ran the campground during our last visit is amazing and very nice. Please be patient as this is a side gig for her. It may take some time to respond back for reservations.
I love it here. I've been going here since I was around 15 years old, I use to skateboard alot here. Now I've recently started working for their halloween events as Michael Myers. The owners are very friendly to which I've become friends with. The park is very well maintained and kept cleaned. Has playgrounds for the kids and spots for campers.
Place is ok at best. We were here on a hunting trip. We have property nearby that we can't take our camper to so we stayed here. There was lots of dogs around that came up to our campsite NOT COOL!! 5 different dogs throughout stay. There is a leash law. My dog doesn't like other dogs coming onto HER property. I couldn't take our dog out for walks due to the strays. Overall quiet place a couple people live there in their campers.
Stayed in this park and it was our worst experience in a 60 day long trip. I made a reservation months in advance and explained we had a 42' motorhome with slides-after we checked in with a not so friendly staff, we were placed in spot #527-a very cramped site that had us practically on top of our neighbors, while other long sites with plenty of room held very small rv's. To make matters worse, our power supply was dirty and caused us to blow a 300 (yes, 300) amp fuse that caused us cascading problems throughout the rest of our trip. Do yourself a favor and don’t stay here. We are sorry we did!
Pretty but several dogs came into the shelter we were having lunch snarling and barking at us. Our dog was just sitting there enjoying the shade and a few snacks from us. He was tied and on his leash. Our dog is a pit bull and we didn't want any confrontation so we packed up and left. I had to throw our dogs water on them and bang the plastic container on the table to get them to leave so we could leave. Not a friendly place. No one claimed the dogs.
