Gulf Coast RV Park About

Introduction / Overview

For those of us in Alabama looking to enjoy the stunning Gulf Coast, finding the right RV park is key to a great trip. Gulf Coast RV Park, located in Gulf Shores, AL, presents itself as an option for travelers seeking to stay close to the beautiful beaches and local attractions. Situated at 5584 Co Rd 6, Gulf Shores, AL 36542, USA, this park offers a range of sites for RVs and even tent camping, with promises of full hookups, shade trees, and proximity to both the Gulf beaches and the serene Bon Secour River.

However, it’s important for prospective visitors to approach their decision with a full understanding of what to expect, as customer experiences at Gulf Coast RV Park appear to be quite varied. While some reviews highlight friendly staff, a quiet environment, and good value, others paint a picture of significant maintenance issues, cleanliness concerns, and a less-than-professional atmosphere. This overview aims to provide a balanced perspective, drawing directly from available public information and customer feedback, to help you determine if Gulf Coast RV Park aligns with your expectations for an Alabama coastal getaway.

Location and Accessibility

Gulf Coast RV Park enjoys a location that can be quite appealing for those looking to explore the Gulf Shores area. Its address at 5584 Co Rd 6, Gulf Shores, AL 36542, USA, places it approximately 5 miles from the renowned white sand beaches of Gulf Shores. This proximity means that while you’re not directly beachfront, the beautiful coast is just a short drive away, offering easy access to swimming, sunbathing, fishing, and all the lively activities Gulf Shores is famous for.

Beyond the beaches, a notable advantage of its location is being only 300 yards from the Bon Secour River. This offers a quieter, more natural alternative for recreation, potentially ideal for kayaking, fishing, or simply enjoying the peaceful river views. The park's setting is described as featuring large RV and tent camping sites with plenty of beautiful shade trees, suggesting a more natural, less paved environment compared to some larger resorts. Accessibility to the park itself appears straightforward via County Road 6, making it relatively easy to navigate for RVs of various sizes. However, as with any natural setting, visitors should consider potential road conditions, especially after heavy rain, though no specific warnings were found. Its placement allows for convenient access to local restaurants and attractions without being in the immediate hustle and bustle of the beachfront tourist zones.

Services Offered

Based on available public information and customer reviews, Gulf Coast RV Park offers several key services aimed at making your RV stay functional. It’s important to note that the quality and reliability of these services, particularly maintenance, have been subjects of concern in some reviews.

  • Full RV Hookups: The park provides full hookups, including water, sewer, and electricity (30 and 50 amp service), which are standard and essential for any comfortable RV stay. However, at least one review highlighted issues with a faulty power station, leading to damage to an RV converter, which is a serious concern.
  • Tent Camping Sites: In addition to RV sites, the park also accommodates tent camping, offering a broader appeal to different types of campers.
  • On-Site Laundry Facilities: A laundry room is available for guests. However, multiple reviews critically mention that the laundry room is "filthy" and that "most of the washers and dryers do not work," suggesting this amenity may not always be reliably functional or clean.
  • Bath House: A bath house is listed as an amenity, providing restroom and showering facilities. Like the laundry, the cleanliness and functionality of this facility are not consistently praised in public reviews.
  • Recreation Room: The park reportedly includes a recreation room for "crafting needs," though detailed information or recent positive mentions of this facility are scarce.
  • Gravel Parking with Cement Pads: Sites are described as having gravel parking with cement pads and picnic tables, offering a stable and basic setup for your RV and outdoor enjoyment.
  • Sewer Access: Each site is equipped with sewer access, allowing for convenient wastewater disposal.
  • Discounts Available: The park reportedly offers discounts for Passport America, Good Sam, and Military with valid ID. This is a significant benefit for members of these organizations.

It's crucial for prospective guests to understand that while these services are listed, the actual condition and reliability of some amenities, particularly the power hookups, laundry, and bathhouse, have been questioned by previous visitors. Guests should be prepared for a more rustic experience where self-reliance might be necessary for certain issues.

Features / Highlights

Despite the mixed reviews regarding maintenance and cleanliness, Gulf Coast RV Park does possess some inherent features that might appeal to certain types of travelers, particularly those prioritizing location and affordability:

  • Proximity to Gulf Shores Beaches: Being just 5 miles from the pristine beaches of Gulf Shores is a major draw. This allows for quick trips to the coast for swimming, sun, and sand without paying premium beachfront prices.
  • Close to Bon Secour River: The park's location only 300 yards from the Bon Secour River offers a peaceful alternative for water activities like fishing and kayaking, providing a different kind of natural experience away from the bustling Gulf.
  • Shade Trees: The presence of "lots of beautiful shade trees" is a significant advantage, especially during Alabama's hot summer months. Shade can greatly enhance comfort at an RV site.
  • Affordable Pricing (potentially): While specific rates vary, the mention of discounts like Passport America and Good Sam suggests an aim for affordability, which could be a highlight for budget-conscious RVers.
  • Pet-Friendly (implied by one positive review): One review mentioned bringing "the pups and they loved it," hinting at a pet-friendly policy, which is a crucial feature for many RV travelers.
  • Potential for Quiet Environment: Despite issues, some reviews, particularly an older one, mentioned a "quiet" experience, suggesting that depending on park occupancy and neighborly conduct, peace can be found.

It’s important to acknowledge that the primary highlights here revolve around the natural surroundings and general location rather than extensive, well-maintained on-site facilities, given the recurring negative feedback on amenities like laundry and power reliability.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on available public information, Gulf Coast RV Park offers explicit discounts rather than seasonal promotions or special package deals. These discounts are a key part of their appeal to a broader RV community seeking value:

  • Passport America Discount: This is a highly popular discount program for RVers, offering 50% off nightly rates at participating parks. Gulf Coast RV Park honors this, which can lead to significant savings for members.
  • Good Sam Discount: Good Sam Club members typically receive a 10% discount at participating RV parks. Gulf Coast RV Park also honors this discount, providing another avenue for savings.
  • Military Discount: The park extends a discount to military personnel with a valid ID. This is a commendable offering for those who serve or have served.

It is always recommended to confirm these discounts and their applicability when making a reservation, as terms and conditions can sometimes apply (e.g., discounts on regular daily rates only, not monthly). For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates and any other potential offers, direct contact with the park is advisable.

Contact Information

To inquire about availability, rates, or any specific concerns regarding Gulf Coast RV Park, direct contact is the most effective method. The park provides clear phone numbers for communication.

  • Address: 5584 Co Rd 6, Gulf Shores, AL 36542, USA
  • Primary Phone: (251) 968-6494
  • Mobile Phone: +1 251-968-6494

Given the mixed nature of customer reviews, particularly concerning maintenance and cleanliness, it is highly recommended to call ahead with specific questions you may have. Inquiring about the current operational status of the laundry room, the reliability of power pedestals, and overall cleanliness standards before booking could help manage expectations and potentially avoid negative experiences.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Alabamians considering an RV trip to the Gulf Coast, Gulf Coast RV Park in Gulf Shores offers a proposition that, while not without its reported flaws, might still suit certain local travelers. Its primary allure for residents of Alabama lies in its strategic location. Being just a few miles from the famous Gulf Shores beaches means easy day trips to the coast for sun, sand, and saltwater fun without the higher prices often associated with direct beachfront RV resorts. Furthermore, its immediate proximity to the tranquil Bon Secour River provides a fantastic local escape for those who enjoy quieter water activities like fishing or kayaking, offering a different facet of coastal Alabama's natural beauty.

The park also appeals to the budget-conscious traveler, especially those who are members of discount programs like Passport America, Good Sam, or who qualify for military discounts. For locals seeking a basic, no-frills place to park their RV, particularly for shorter stays or as a base for exploring the wider Gulf Shores area, the affordability factor can be a significant draw. The presence of essential full hookups and shade trees provides the fundamental comforts needed for an RV stay. However, it's crucial for locals to manage their expectations regarding on-site amenities, especially laundry and power reliability, based on recent customer feedback. For Alabamians who value prime location and cost-effectiveness above resort-style luxuries and are prepared for a more rustic experience with potential for self-reliance, Gulf Coast RV Park could still serve as a convenient and affordable entry point to the Alabama Gulf Coast.

This place looks like a Kid Rock music video complete with trash scattered everywhere, cars on blocks and trump flags galore! The pictures online in reviews are misleading so I took the liberty to upload several in hopes that it would save somebody money and time! The very first day we got there we fried our converter in our camper (even with a surge protector) because of a faulty shore power station. Had to run our power off of another lot, then a battery charger to keep our 12v topped off while the on site 'maintenance' men gave us the run around for three days on fixing it. We had to employ someone separate to come and fix it because the people who work at this park couldn't be bothered to do their alleged job. Extremely unprofessional. The laundry room is filthy, most of the washers and dryers do not work. The main office smells like a truck stop and looks like one too. We spent 30 days here and it was the worst experience. Had I of seen pictures of what this place actually looked like, I would not have booked here.

What.a.dump! Definitely on my 'never again' list. Upon arrival, nobody in office even though it was check in time, no check in paperwork left out either. Trashy, brushy, run down...I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Only bright spot was I got a level site. My son in law however, after an amazing display of backing in prowess (threading between trees and a deep ditch across from the space) turned out that the pedestal had one 50 amp breaker and one 30 amp plug?? My sil had to drive down to the Camping World and buy an adapter. At $45.00-$55.00 a night, this was not a deal. I didn't bother even checking out the "amenities", judging from the state of the park it would be a disappointment.

The office was run down and a mess smells musty and the acorns drooping on top of Rv sounded like golf balls all night long couldn’t sleep. When we took the water house released from our Rv it was all Black water horrible payed for two nights only stayed for one and just left world not recommend this camp ground was not worth my $50. A night waste of money.not even a park it should be called a dump. Did not have a good experience so don’t waste your time your better off sleeping in Walmart plaza. We picked up so quick they made $50 on us being we didn’t even stay the second night my loss but well worth it to leave. Water was black coming out of the house thank goodness we had a water filter on th hose. 🥵😡🤮 I guess the got a $50 tip😜😕😫 not deserved.
