Are you a Tennessee local dreaming of a camping experience that offers true peace, stunning natural beauty, and a chance to truly disconnect? Look no further than Hammock'Sway, a unique and highly recommended campground nestled in Rock Island, TN. This isn't your average bustling campsite; it's a secluded haven where the sounds of a flowing creek lull you to sleep and the stars provide a breathtaking natural light show.
Hammock'Sway is for those who cherish a quiet, somewhat primitive outdoor adventure. It’s a place where the charm lies in its simplicity, its lovely scenery, and the personal touch of a cool, friendly owner. If you're ready to trade city noise for the gentle murmur of a creek and crowded sites for expansive natural beauty, Hammock'Sway offers an unforgettable retreat right here in our own Tennessee backyard.
Hammock'Sway is situated at 203 Koomer Ridge, Rock Island, TN 38581, USA. This address places it in a beautiful, somewhat remote area of Middle Tennessee, offering the kind of seclusion that many campers actively seek. Rock Island itself is known for its natural attractions, particularly its proximity to several popular state parks and natural areas.
While the campground is described as "a bit remote," this is part of its allure, ensuring a peaceful and quiet environment. It's approximately 15 minutes from the closest stores, meaning you'll want to stock up on essentials before arriving. However, this slight distance from commercial centers is a small trade-off for the unparalleled tranquility you'll find at Hammock'Sway.
Despite its remote feel, the campground remains quite accessible for those driving from across Tennessee. It's conveniently located relatively close to several major state parks, making it an excellent basecamp for wider exploration. Fall Creek Falls State Park, renowned for its impressive waterfalls and hiking trails, is a popular destination that is easily reachable from Hammock'Sway. Cumberland Caverns, another fantastic natural attraction offering extensive cave tours, is also within close proximity, allowing campers to combine their peaceful stay with exciting day trips.
Access to the campsites themselves involves getting "close" with your vehicle, but not driving directly up to the tent spot. However, there's a safe and convenient place to park your vehicle nearby, and the owner is known to be accommodating, even letting campers see the site before committing to carrying their gear down. This thoughtful approach ensures that while it’s a primitive setting, accessibility is well-managed for a comfortable arrival.
Hammock'Sway leans into a primitive camping experience, focusing on the core elements that enhance a connection with nature rather than offering extensive modern amenities. However, it provides key features and a level of personalized service that truly sets it apart.
It's important to note that the campground is described as "somewhat primitive" and does not have a restroom facility. This is a key piece of information for planning your stay and highlights its focus on a more rugged, back-to-nature experience. Guests should be prepared for this aspect of primitive camping.
Hammock'Sway offers a unique and highly appealing set of features that truly differentiate it from more conventional campgrounds, making it a standout choice for Tennessee locals seeking a specific kind of outdoor experience.
As a unique, and likely privately-run, primitive campground focused on delivering a serene and personal experience, Hammock'Sway may not offer conventional "promotions" in the same way a large commercial campground might. However, based on the provided information and the nature of such establishments, their primary value and "offers" are inherent in their pricing and the unique experience they provide:
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any potential flexible booking options, it is highly recommended to contact Hammock'Sway directly. Given the owner's friendly and accommodating nature, a direct phone call would be the best way to discuss your specific camping needs and inquire about any unadvertised benefits.
Ready to discover the peaceful escape that Hammock'Sway offers? For reservations, inquiries about available campsites, or to learn more about this unique primitive camping experience, getting in touch is simple.
Given the personal nature of the campground and the owner's hands-on approach, calling ahead is highly recommended. This allows you to speak directly with the friendly owner, discuss campsite availability, understand the primitive nature of the facilities (like the lack of a restroom), and ensure your expectations align with the unique experience Hammock'Sway provides. They can also offer insights into the best spots and any current conditions, ensuring your stay is as enjoyable as possible.
For Tennessee locals, Hammock'Sway in Rock Island is exceptionally suitable as a camping destination, particularly for those seeking a true escape into nature with an emphasis on peace, privacy, and authentic outdoor living. It offers a refreshing alternative to more commercialized or crowded campgrounds, fulfilling a specific niche that many residents crave.
Firstly, its "somewhat remote" location, while requiring a bit of planning for supplies, is a key advantage for locals wanting to truly disconnect. This seclusion means minimal noise pollution and incredible stargazing opportunities, allowing for a deeper immersion in the natural environment of Tennessee. The easy access to stunning state parks like Fall Creek Falls and Cumberland Caverns further enhances its appeal, providing exciting day-trip possibilities to complement the serene camping experience.
Secondly, the unique feature of camping right beside a "fairly swiftly moving creek" provides a continuous, soothing soundtrack to your stay. This natural element, combined with the often private nature of the campsites, creates an unparalleled sense of tranquility perfect for unwinding and de-stressing. For residents seeking quiet contemplation or romantic getaways, the peaceful ambiance is a major draw.
Moreover, the personal touch and friendly demeanor of the owner are significant highlights. The willingness to show sites, offer flexibility, and generally ensure a positive experience creates a welcoming atmosphere that resonates strongly with a desire for genuine hospitality. This personal connection makes Hammock'Sway feel less like a transaction and more like visiting a friend's private outdoor haven.
In essence, Hammock'Sway is perfectly tailored for Tennessee locals who prioritize peace, natural beauty, and a hands-on, primitive camping adventure. It’s a place where you can truly "enjoy the great outdoors," witness breathtaking stars, and create lasting memories in a setting that feels both wild and wonderfully welcoming, right in the heart of our beautiful state.

We had a great weekend at Hammock'Sway in June! When my boyfriend and I were camping there it was super quiet, calm, and peaceful. We were the only campers he had that weekend, and we took advantage of it and explored the area, especially the river/creek area near our campsite. That being said the campsite is right beside a fairly swiftly moving creek, so the sound of the water lulls you to sleep and the creek is just deep enough to wade in the water a bit. The only downsides to the place are: it's a bit remote, so like 15 minutes from the closest stores which wouldn't have mattered except there isn't a restroom facility, the owner was doing a bit of maintenance during the day, one day that weekend, and you can't drive right up to your campsite (however you can get close and there's a safe place to park your vehicle nearby.) After our initial meeting we only saw the owner while he was doing maintenance, otherwise we didn't even run into him throughout the weekend. We had the whole place to ourselves. So if you want a nice quiet somewhat primitive place with a cool owner and lovely scenery the river camping at Hammock'Sway is definitely for you. I would recommend this place to friends as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Oh also he let us see the campsite before we committed to carrying our stuff down to it, and he would have swapped us from that spot to a different one if we would have wanted to, which we thought was super thoughtful. Another good thing about the place is: it's relatively close to several state parks, Fall Creek Falls nature center, and Cumberland Caverns. We visited Fall Creek Falls and Cumberland Caverns while we were there that weekend.
Jul 16, 2024 · Cassi WilliamsEven with the pouring down rain, my boyfriend and I were able to enjoy the great outdoors and have an amazing adventure! The host is awesome and very friendly. Private and lots of fun. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys the outside! Not to mention the stars were absolutely breath taking and peaceful.
Sep 10, 2023 · FaithMy husband and I spent three nights on Chris's beautiful property, Hammock'Sway. It was easy to find and once we were settled we couldn't get over how peaceful it was out there—absolutely no noise pollution. Chris showed us around the property and let us pick our spot. He has laid out the campsites very thoughtfully, providing lots of privacy from site to site. The creek/river was great for cooling off mid-day. There are some local attractions nearby, but we stayed around our campsite since everything we needed was there. Oh—and the stars came out at night in full force. We had a lovely time, would recommend this place, and will be back again!
Jun 15, 2020 · Spenser DukowitzThis is a wonderful place to stay. Chris is a gracious, welcoming, and helpful host, and I love what he’s doing with the land. This is a primitive campsite which means that you have a beautiful piece of land where you can be alone and enjoy the sounds of nature. It’s a little hard to find, but Chris goes out of his way to help you find your way. I stayed in the Pine Forest site which almost felt like another world. I highly recommend this campground for those who want a weekend away from it all. You won’t find this kind of solitude at a public campground.
Aug 11, 2019 · Jeremy HarbinThis was a great place to go camping with friends and family. The campsites were perfect hammocks but also capable for tents and campers. I went there last weekend and had a blast. Chris, the owner is very helpful and will go out of his way to make sure you have a great experience. I will be going back soon!
