Hammock'Sway is for those who cherish a quiet, somewhat primitive outdoor adventure. It’s a place where the charm lies in its simplicity, its lovely scenery, and the personal touch of a cool, friendly owner. If you're ready to trade city noise for the gentle murmur of a creek and crowded sites for expansive natural beauty, Hammock'Sway offers an unforgettable retreat right here in our own Tennessee backyard.

Location and Accessibility

Hammock'Sway is situated at 203 Koomer Ridge, Rock Island, TN 38581, USA. This address places it in a beautiful, somewhat remote area of Middle Tennessee, offering the kind of seclusion that many campers actively seek. Rock Island itself is known for its natural attractions, particularly its proximity to several popular state parks and natural areas.

While the campground is described as "a bit remote," this is part of its allure, ensuring a peaceful and quiet environment. It's approximately 15 minutes from the closest stores, meaning you'll want to stock up on essentials before arriving. However, this slight distance from commercial centers is a small trade-off for the unparalleled tranquility you'll find at Hammock'Sway.

Despite its remote feel, the campground remains quite accessible for those driving from across Tennessee. It's conveniently located relatively close to several major state parks, making it an excellent basecamp for wider exploration. Fall Creek Falls State Park, renowned for its impressive waterfalls and hiking trails, is a popular destination that is easily reachable from Hammock'Sway. Cumberland Caverns, another fantastic natural attraction offering extensive cave tours, is also within close proximity, allowing campers to combine their peaceful stay with exciting day trips.

Access to the campsites themselves involves getting "close" with your vehicle, but not driving directly up to the tent spot. However, there's a safe and convenient place to park your vehicle nearby, and the owner is known to be accommodating, even letting campers see the site before committing to carrying their gear down. This thoughtful approach ensures that while it’s a primitive setting, accessibility is well-managed for a comfortable arrival.

Services Offered

Hammock'Sway leans into a primitive camping experience, focusing on the core elements that enhance a connection with nature rather than offering extensive modern amenities. However, it provides key features and a level of personalized service that truly sets it apart.

  • Primitive Tent Camping: The primary offering is spacious and secluded tent camping sites. These sites are designed to immerse you in nature, often right beside a creek, providing a private and peaceful environment.
  • Creek/River Access: A significant service is the direct access to a "fairly swiftly moving creek." This allows for wading and provides the soothing sound of flowing water, perfect for relaxation and sleep.
  • Safe Parking Area: While you can't drive directly to your campsite, a safe and convenient place to park your vehicle nearby is provided, minimizing the need to carry gear over long distances.
  • Personalized Host Interaction: The owner, described as "awesome and very friendly" and a "cool owner," provides a highly personal touch. This includes meeting guests upon arrival, offering to show campsites before committing, and being available if needed, while also respecting privacy.
  • Firewood (Potentially): While not explicitly stated as a service, most primitive campgrounds allow or provide for firepits. Given the focus on outdoor enjoyment, it's highly likely guests can have campfires, though confirming firewood availability/rules with the owner is recommended.
  • Guidance on Site Selection: The owner's willingness to let campers see the campsite before committing and offering alternative spots demonstrates a commitment to ensuring guests are happy with their chosen location.

It's important to note that the campground is described as "somewhat primitive" and does not have a restroom facility. This is a key piece of information for planning your stay and highlights its focus on a more rugged, back-to-nature experience. Guests should be prepared for this aspect of primitive camping.

Features / Highlights

Hammock'Sway offers a unique and highly appealing set of features that truly differentiate it from more conventional campgrounds, making it a standout choice for Tennessee locals seeking a specific kind of outdoor experience.

  • Exceptional Peace and Quiet: This is perhaps the most celebrated highlight. Reviewers consistently describe the campground as "super quiet, calm, and peaceful," noting that sometimes they were the only campers. This level of seclusion is rare and perfect for those seeking a true escape from noise and crowds.
  • Soothing Creek-Side Camping: Many campsites are located directly beside a "fairly swiftly moving creek." The constant, gentle sound of the water is a natural lullaby, creating an incredibly relaxing ambiance and providing opportunities for wading and enjoying the water.
  • Breathtaking Stargazing: With its remote location away from light pollution, Hammock'Sway offers "absolutely breath taking and peaceful" views of the night sky. For stargazers in Tennessee, this is a prime spot to witness the Milky Way and countless constellations.
  • Friendly and Accommodating Owner: The owner is consistently praised as "awesome," "very friendly," and "cool." His thoughtful approach, including showing sites before committing and respecting privacy, adds a significant personal touch that enhances the overall positive experience.

This allows campers to enjoy the tranquility of the campground while easily accessing exciting day adventures.
  • Private and Secluded Sites: The design of the campground, often allowing for privacy and a feeling of having "the whole place to ourselves," is a major draw for those who prefer an intimate camping experience over crowded sites.
  • Authentic Primitive Camping: For those who prefer "camping, not Glamping," Hammock'Sway provides an authentic, somewhat primitive experience. This appeals to campers who enjoy roughing it slightly for a deeper connection with nature.
  • Beautiful Scenery: The "lovely scenery" encompasses the creek, surrounding natural areas, and the peaceful forested environment, providing a picturesque backdrop for your outdoor retreat.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a unique, and likely privately-run, primitive campground focused on delivering a serene and personal experience, Hammock'Sway may not offer conventional "promotions" in the same way a large commercial campground might. However, based on the provided information and the nature of such establishments, their primary value and "offers" are inherent in their pricing and the unique experience they provide:

  • Competitive Pricing: The core "promotion" is likely competitive and fair pricing for a secluded, creek-side, primitive camping experience. Reviewers noted the owner was "fair on prices," suggesting good value for the specific type of camping offered.
  • Personalized Service as a Value-Add: The highly praised "cool owner" who is "awesome and very friendly" provides a level of personalized service that many larger campgrounds cannot. This includes showing sites, offering flexibility, and generally ensuring a pleasant stay, which adds significant intangible value without being a discount on price.
  • Exclusive Access/Privacy: The potential for being "the only campers" during a weekend, or having a "private" experience, is a significant "offer" for those who value solitude over crowded amenities. This might be a deliberate strategy by the owner to ensure a high-quality, tranquil experience for fewer guests.
  • Focus on Core Experience: Hammock'Sway's "not a resort" approach means you're paying for the peaceful setting, natural beauty, and direct creek access, rather than a long list of amenities you might not use. This focus on core camping elements provides value to those who prioritize nature immersion.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any potential flexible booking options, it is highly recommended to contact Hammock'Sway directly. Given the owner's friendly and accommodating nature, a direct phone call would be the best way to discuss your specific camping needs and inquire about any unadvertised benefits.

We had a great weekend at Hammock'Sway in June! When my boyfriend and I were camping there it was super quiet, calm, and peaceful. We were the only campers he had that weekend, and we took advantage of it and explored the area, especially the river/creek area near our campsite. That being said the campsite is right beside a fairly swiftly moving creek, so the sound of the water lulls you to sleep and the creek is just deep enough to wade in the water a bit. The only downsides to the place are: it's a bit remote, so like 15 minutes from the closest stores which wouldn't have mattered except there isn't a restroom facility, the owner was doing a bit of maintenance during the day, one day that weekend, and you can't drive right up to your campsite (however you can get close and there's a safe place to park your vehicle nearby.) After our initial meeting we only saw the owner while he was doing maintenance, otherwise we didn't even run into him throughout the weekend. We had the whole place to ourselves. So if you want a nice quiet somewhat primitive place with a cool owner and lovely scenery the river camping at Hammock'Sway is definitely for you. I would recommend this place to friends as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Oh also he let us see the campsite before we committed to carrying our stuff down to it, and he would have swapped us from that spot to a different one if we would have wanted to, which we thought was super thoughtful. Another good thing about the place is: it's relatively close to several state parks, Fall Creek Falls nature center, and Cumberland Caverns. We visited Fall Creek Falls and Cumberland Caverns while we were there that weekend.

My husband and I spent three nights on Chris's beautiful property, Hammock'Sway. It was easy to find and once we were settled we couldn't get over how peaceful it was out there—absolutely no noise pollution. Chris showed us around the property and let us pick our spot. He has laid out the campsites very thoughtfully, providing lots of privacy from site to site. The creek/river was great for cooling off mid-day. There are some local attractions nearby, but we stayed around our campsite since everything we needed was there. Oh—and the stars came out at night in full force. We had a lovely time, would recommend this place, and will be back again!

This is a wonderful place to stay. Chris is a gracious, welcoming, and helpful host, and I love what he’s doing with the land. This is a primitive campsite which means that you have a beautiful piece of land where you can be alone and enjoy the sounds of nature. It’s a little hard to find, but Chris goes out of his way to help you find your way. I stayed in the Pine Forest site which almost felt like another world. I highly recommend this campground for those who want a weekend away from it all. You won’t find this kind of solitude at a public campground.

This was a great place to go camping with friends and family. The campsites were perfect hammocks but also capable for tents and campers. I went there last weekend and had a blast. Chris, the owner is very helpful and will go out of his way to make sure you have a great experience. I will be going back soon!
