Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground About
For Virginians seeking a campground that blends the comforts of modern amenities with a deep sense of history and natural beauty, Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground in Goshen offers a compelling choice. Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Alleghany Mountains, this campground provides a unique opportunity to experience the great outdoors with conveniences that make your stay truly enjoyable. Whether you're a seasoned RV enthusiast, a tent camping purist, or a family looking for a memorable outdoor adventure, this site aims to cater to your needs, all while providing access to the serene Cold Sulphur Springs Lake.
Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground is more than just a place to park your RV or pitch your tent; it's a destination with a past. Dating back to at least the mid-1800s, it was once a flourishing resort, frequented by travelers who sought the "miraculous medicinal benefits" of its spring water. While little remains of the grand old hotel, the historic Spring House and remnants of original building foundations are still present, offering a glimpse into a bygone era. Today, it provides a simpler kind of hospitality, allowing you to connect with nature on grounds steeped in history.
What sets this campground apart for many Virginia locals is its commitment to providing essential modern comforts alongside its natural setting. With access to electric, water, and a bathhouse, it alleviates some of the challenges often associated with more primitive camping, making it accessible and enjoyable for a wider range of campers. While experiences can vary, as some past visitors have noted, the campground strives to offer a friendly and accommodating environment where you can relax, recreate, and create new memories amidst Virginia's stunning landscape.
Historic Cold Sulphur Springs Campground is conveniently located at 96 Sand Bank Vw Ln, Goshen, VA 24439, USA. This address places it within the charming small town of Goshen, Virginia, an area celebrated for its untouched natural beauty and position within the majestic Alleghany Mountains. It's a region that promises a true escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, offering a tranquil environment for outdoor enthusiasts.
The campground’s secluded location is one of its defining features, providing a quiet and wooded environment perfect for getting away. However, its remoteness means that visitors should be prepared, especially if arriving after dark. Bringing flashlights or headlamps is highly recommended to ensure you have enough light for setting up camp. The drive to the campground typically involves navigating scenic mountain roads, and while the exact access road (Sand Bank Vw Ln) itself is within the campground's property, the overall journey into the Goshen area should be approached with awareness of rural road conditions.
Despite its secluded feel, Goshen remains a gateway to numerous outdoor attractions in the wider region, making the campground a strategic base for exploration. Its proximity to public access national forests and other natural preserves means that while you're enjoying the peace of the campground, further adventures like hiking in Goshen Pass or exploring the Maury River are just a short drive away. While mobile phone service can be spotty in remote areas of Virginia's mountains, the ability to disconnect is often part of the appeal for campers here.

Customer Reviews
Amazing modern camp site with access to electric, water and bathhouse. Zoe our host was very helpful and accommodating. She helped us pick the best site for us based on our needs. Her customer service skills made us feel more inclined to choose this camp site over others. Timmy was very helpful too. Met some seasonal campers who were super nice and extraordinarily helpful ! Thank you all !
Booking process was very easy and staff was friendly. The PRIMITIVE camping site was WAYYYYYY overpriced for what it was. I expected it to be closer to water you can actually swim in and thought it was going to be worth the $60. Instead, it felt like I was on my uncle's property in SC. People were riding loud 4-wheelers all around us until like 10:30 pm. Would not camp here again.
Do not plan on tent camping at this location. You will be charged RV rates for a site, which is totally ridiculous. We should have done more research on this location before we planned on heading there. It is actually well outside the small community of Goshen and down a long gravel/dirt unkempt road. Having arrived late in the day and set up already we were advised of the very high rate (for tent camping) and when questioned were told if we did not like it to pack up our .... and go somewhere else. Very nice. Yeah, quality people. The bathrooms were disgusting, possibly one of the worst camping experiences ever. I don't like giving negative reviews but this place fully deserves one.
We stayed for a night as we passed through. We had a 40 motorhome and the path was a bit tough to get to but we made it without issue. We found the site to be nice and relaxing. The short walk to the super springs was beautiful and the dogs enjoyed playing in the stream. Hopefully the springs are restored soon so that we can get in and soak for a bit. There are some full timers there and they are located at the top of the hill. I met some of them and they were all very nice. I had engine trouble and a few people jumped in and saved the day. I really can’t thank them enough and have never experienced such hospitality. Not sure why there aren’t more ratings on here.
Had a great time camping here. My girlfriend and I showed up super late on own road trip. The staff was super nice. Tommy came down and made sure we had all that we needed. They have wood for sale $5 with a big bundle of wood. A beautiful lake and wildlife.
