TA Campground At Lee Hi Travel Plaza About
For Virginians navigating our state's busy interstates, or simply seeking a hassle-free and secure place to park their RV, the TA Campground at Lee Hi Travel Plaza in Lexington offers a uniquely convenient solution. This isn't your traditional wilderness retreat, but rather a highly practical and welcoming stop designed specifically for RVers who prioritize ease of access, essential hookups, and a safe overnight stay. If you're traveling along I-64 or I-81 and need a reliable spot to rest, refresh, and get back on the road, this campground presents itself as an excellent choice right here in Virginia.
The TA Campground distinguishes itself by combining the practicality of a travel plaza with the dedicated amenities of an RV park. Situated on a hill behind the main truck stop, it cleverly mitigates potential noise, providing a surprisingly peaceful environment despite its location. This thoughtful design means you get the best of both worlds: immediate access to fuel, food, and supplies, coupled with the security and comfort of a dedicated RV site. As one satisfied traveler noted, it's a place where you can "pull in, hook up, get some sleep, and leave," fulfilling a crucial need for many on the go.
What truly makes this campground appealing to locals and travelers alike are the full hookup sites – a significant advantage over roadside rests or less equipped options. The ease of the booking process, the friendly staff, and the feeling of safety contribute to a positive experience. It's a pragmatic choice for those who value convenience and functionality, making it a reliable waypoint or even a comfortable base for exploring the Lexington area.
The TA Campground is strategically located at 2516 N Lee Hwy, Lexington, VA 24450, USA, making it incredibly accessible for travelers on two of Virginia's primary interstate highways. Its position at the Lee Hi Travel Plaza, a well-known and comprehensive truck stop, ensures that it's easy to find and reach.
This campground's key advantage is its direct proximity to major transportation arteries. It's perfectly situated for those traveling east or west on Interstate 64, or north or south on Interstate 81, as these two interstates converge near Lexington. This makes it an ideal overnight stop for anyone journeying across Virginia or passing through to destinations beyond.
Accessing the campground is straightforward from the travel plaza. As advised by a previous customer, when you pull into the Lee Hi Travel Plaza, it's best to "go around back and come in the door by the gas pumps (Fuel Desk door)" to easily check in. The campground itself is situated "on top of the hill behind the truckstop," which serves as a natural buffer from the bustling activity below. This elevated position contributes significantly to the surprising quietness of the sites, despite being part of a busy travel center.
While the campground is set apart from the direct truck parking, the convenience of having essential services immediately at hand – including fuel, convenience store items, and dining options – is a major draw. For RVers who need a quick and efficient stop without venturing far off their route, the location of TA Campground is exceptionally well-suited.
The TA Campground at Lee Hi Travel Plaza focuses on providing core services that are highly valued by RV travelers seeking convenience and functionality for an overnight stop or a short stay. While it doesn't offer extensive recreational amenities, its strength lies in its practical provisions.
Full Hookup RV Sites: A significant highlight, as enthusiastically noted by campers, is the availability of full hookup sites. This includes electric, water, and sewer connections at each site, eliminating the need for frequent trips to dump stations or relying on external water sources. This is a major convenience for RVers.
Pull-Through Sites: The campground features generous "100-foot pull-through sites," making it incredibly easy for even large RVs and travel trailers to navigate and park without the need for difficult backing maneuvers. This is particularly beneficial for those arriving late or looking for a quick setup and departure.
On-Site Check-In (Fuel Desk): The check-in process is conveniently handled at the Fuel Desk within the main travel plaza. This allows for quick and efficient registration upon arrival, even late at night.
24/7 Access to Travel Plaza Amenities: Being part of the Lee Hi Travel Plaza means campers have immediate access to a wide array of services, including a gas station, a well-stocked convenience store, and an IHOP restaurant for sit-down meals.
Security and Safety: Campers consistently express a feeling of safety and security, which is paramount for overnight stops. The location, while connected to a busy plaza, is set apart, contributing to a sense of peace of mind.
Pet-Friendly Environment: The campground is welcoming to pets, with ample space around the sites for walking dogs, ensuring that furry family members are happy and comfortable.
Trash Disposal: While not explicitly detailed, standard trash receptacles are typically available in such facilities for waste disposal.
The TA Campground at Lee Hi Travel Plaza, while tailored for convenience, offers several distinct features and highlights that make it a standout choice for RVers and travelers in Virginia.
Unbeatable Convenience for Travelers: Its paramount feature is its sheer convenience. Located directly off major interstates (I-64 and I-81) and integrated with a comprehensive travel plaza, it minimizes detours and maximizes rest time for those on the road. This makes it an ideal "stop now" for repeat travelers.
Full Hookup Sites: The availability of full hookups (electric, water, sewer) at pull-through sites is a significant highlight, offering a level of comfort and ease rarely found at quick-stop locations. This eliminates the need for managing tanks and power separately.
Peaceful Despite Proximity: Despite being adjacent to a truck stop, the campground is cleverly situated on a "hill behind the truckstop," effectively separating it from the main noise. Reviewers note they "couldn’t hear any noise" or that truck sounds were like "white noise," allowing for restful sleep.
On-Site Dining (IHOP): The presence of an IHOP restaurant directly at the travel plaza provides an easy and accessible dining option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, without needing to unhook the RV or drive into town.
Fuel and Convenience Store Access: Immediate access to a gas station and a well-stocked convenience store ensures that all essential travel needs, from fuel to snacks and basic supplies, are just steps away.
Safe and Secure Environment: Campers consistently report feeling safe and secure during their stays, which is crucial for overnight travelers. This peace of mind allows for truly restful sleep.
Pet-Friendly Space: Plenty of space for walking dogs and the overall pet-friendly policy ensure that travelers with furry companions have a comfortable and welcoming stop.
Potential for Scenic Views: Even amidst the practicalities, there's the potential for a "decent view across the little valley," as one reviewer noted, offering a touch of natural beauty when the fog lifts.
"White Noise" Effect of Trucks: For some, the distant hum of trucks can actually be a comforting "white noise" that aids sleep, rather than a disturbance.
The TA Campground at Lee Hi Travel Plaza primarily offers a straightforward, competitive nightly rate for its full hookup sites, designed to provide excellent value for travelers seeking convenience. While it doesn't typically run large-scale "promotions" in the traditional sense, its pricing model and inherent convenience act as ongoing benefits.
Affordable Nightly Rate: Campers consistently find the nightly rate (around $37.50 to $40) to be very reasonable for a full hookup site. This competitive pricing makes it an attractive option for those who prioritize value and essential amenities.
Ease of Booking: The simple and efficient booking process, often handled directly by calling the Fuel Desk, is a convenience that itself can be considered a benefit, saving travelers time and hassle.
Loyalty Programs (Potential): As part of the wider TA / Petro Stopping Centers network, there's a possibility that travelers with existing loyalty programs (e.g., UltraONE Rewards for professional drivers, though this specific campground may cater more to leisure RVers) might find additional benefits or points accrual, but this would need direct confirmation with TA. Generally, the value is in the direct price and convenience.
For the most current pricing, availability, and any specific details regarding reservations, it is always best to call the TA Campground directly at the provided phone number. Given its popularity as an overnight stop, especially during peak travel seasons, confirming availability in advance is a good practice.

Customer Reviews
We found this place when we were heading from West 64 towards Virginia Beach and we had pulled off onto a roadside rest to get some a few hours of sleep because we were pulling our camper. We were gonna stay in the camper at the roadside rest, but you know they do not have Electric hook up so while we were at the roadside rest, I googled campground and we found this place. Long story short we headed here. We arrived a few minutes before midnight and was quickly got a campground spot. It was 37.50 for one night. The campground is on top of the hill behind the truckstop so it is separated from the trucks and we really couldn’t hear any noise. We stayed the night and got up the next morning and left. But it was safe and it had a hook up electric and sewer. For 3750 a night we will make this our stop now on when we’re passing through. I can’t really say I will give this place five stars because we only pulled in. We slept and then we left so I didn’t really experience the campground. It doesn’t look like there are any amenities. It looks like there are some long-term campers living here. That is fine with me because I needed to just pull in hook up get some sleep and leave and there were several other RVs doing the same. There is an IHOP at the truckstop. Might have been a decent view across the little valley but there was low fog.
We needed a safe place to park and stay overnight with our travel trailer. Found this place, took a chance since some of the reviews weren't great. I'm so glad we took the chance. Easy to reserve (call Fuel Desk). The price was 40ish dollars a night. I assumed we would have electric and water (I forgot to ask) but we pulled into our 100 foot pull through site and it was FULL HOOK UP! Whhhhaaaat?! Score!! When you pull in, go around back and come in the door by the gas pumps (Fuel Desk door). They have a gas station on site, IHOP and a convenience store. I'm sooo glad we were able to stop here on our trip. We leave in the morning, but on our way back through, we will be stopping here again. Yes, there are trucks stopped in the parking lot below. You can hardly hear them. My windows are open and TV on in the other room. It's like white noise. Plenty of space to walk the dogs. Lots of trees to look at. I feel safe. We are all happy... dogs too. 😉
Easy off an on the highway, old but clean bathroom. No toilet paper. Full hook ups $43.50 . Perfect for travelers. Pull through sites
This place has gone down over the years after TA has taken over. Trash everywhere in the lot and fuel Islands, only 3 of the 9 pumps are working and the lot is getting so rutted you can’t get over them. The store is not the cleanest and the shop and parts is a joke. All bays are empty but a 2-3 hour wait to get a tire fixed. What a shame to see what this place has become after knowing and seeing what Bobby Berkstresser had built this place into. This place used to be something you looked forward to for a clean shower, good food, and a good nights sleep but not any more
Stayed here for 3 nights, very safe and comfortable camp site. The showers and bathrooms were excellent, it was also only around $44 a night. Privately owned, and the people who own it are amazing to talk with and work with! Highly Recommend!
