Grew up in these mountains and love coming home for vacation now that I live in NoVA. Coming to camp at Montebello restores my soul and brings peace back to my heart. Montebello campground may be rustic and "out of the way" but it is peaceful and relaxing. It's a safe campground where my brothers and I grew up, and now my son and niece and nephews get to grow up here. The staff at the store are a second family, and the camp hosts are always friendly. The facilities are clean, and the camp hosts are quick to act when attention is needed. The lake is clean and the fishing is always good. The pay pond at the store is stocked with good sized trout. There are hiking trails in the campground as well as close by. There are swimming and fishing opportunities up and down the mountain, and the parkway is a quick 5 minute drive away. I've enjoyed almost 30 years of camping here along with my family, and look forward to another 30 and then some. Looking forward to checking out one of the 6(?) Cabins they have available. Thanks Montebello for being there when I need to come home and reconnect with my roots.

This place was great. Very peaceful and the cabins are very accommodating. It had everything we needed to host 10 people for the weekend. My only suggestion would be a better walkway between cabins A and B. I do know they are not always shared but up and down for the older folks was a little challenging. But we do look forward to coming back again in the future.

Tucked deep in the heart of the Virginia mountains, where cell service dies and peace begins, there is a place that’s more than a campground. It’s a ritual... Montebello Camping & Fishing Resort isn’t trying to be flashy or upscale... it doesn’t need to be. It’s the kind of place that welcomes you like an old friend with dirt on its boots and your favorite beer in hand. We’ve been coming here for the better part of a decade. Me, my family, and a deep rooted need to escape the digital chokehold of modern life. There is no signal out here, and that’s exactly the point. You download your maps before you start your journey, and then the world melts away. No notifications. No emails. Just mountains, trees, and that quiet hum of nature you forgot existed. The general store nearby is a gem, like something from a postcard your grandparents kept in a drawer. It’s got everything you need and nothing you don’t. We make it a point now to shop there, even if we didn’t forget anything, because supporting local matters, and this place deserves your dollars more than any convenience chain ever will. The staff? Salt of the earth. Stephanie, in particular....always smiling, always warm. Like someone pulled straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. This year they threw an Easter egg hunt for the kids. No charge. No gimmicks. Just pure, wholesome joy. Family is the heartbeat here. We pitch our tent in the primitive sites, where the stars feel close enough to touch, but there’s something for everyone. Cabins, RV hook-ups, even tent sites with electric if you’re not quite ready to let go. Want a little water therapy? The lake's got free pedal boats and canoes, no extra charge, just grab the keys from the general store and your set. And when the morning fog lifts, take the short drive out to Crabtree Falls (10min). It’s a stunning hike, lush, wild, and just challenging enough to make you earn the view. The water’s cold. Glacial. But we always take a dip. Even in winter. Especially in winter. It’s a shock to the system, a reset button for the soul (we all need it) Montebello isn’t just a campground. It’s a memory machine. It’s where my kids learned to skip stones, roast marshmallows, and get dirt under their nails. It’s tradition now, six, maybe seven years running, and I know they’ll bring their own kids here one day. So come. Unplug. Breathe. Spend your dollars where they count. This place could use a little love, and trust me, it’ll give it back tenfold!

One of the best campgrounds in va. Big pond/lake near the campsites there are a few actually pretty much on the pond. Only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is the fact that the camp host loves to ride around on his gator which is kinda obnoxious! Get an electric golf cart if the need is there to ride around that much. Which i don't think I'd there. Fishing pong was very well stocked with very hungry trout. Really close to Crabtree falls. Over all great place just park the gator for awhile!

Of course, when I rated the rooms five star, I meant the campsite. With water, electricity and shade provided along with lakefront views. I don’t know what more you would want from a family, friendly and very clean campsite. Had a great time with my boys. They caught lots of fish, highly recommend driving down to the Tye river so your kids can play. Mine had a blast, especially riding the rapids. Can’t wait to return. Had a great time catching up with my long-term friend as well.
