As part of the North Carolina State Parks system, J C Cooper Campground operates under a standardized fee structure determined by the NC Division of Parks and Recreation. Therefore, typical commercial "promotions" or "special offers" (such as percentage-based discounts for specific seasons or bundled packages) are generally not offered for individual campsites.
However, the state park system does provide inherent value and some consistent rate benefits:
- Affordable Rates: Compared to many private campgrounds, state park camping fees are generally very reasonable, offering excellent value for the amenities and natural access provided. Standard electric hookup sites typically cost around $31 per night.
- Senior Discounts: A senior discount is available for individuals aged 62 and over, with age verified upon arrival. This provides a consistent reduction in daily rates (e.g., $4-$5 per car per day for seniors vs. $6-$7 for standard).
- Annual Passes: While not specific to J C Cooper Campground, the NC State Parks system may offer annual passes or programs that can provide benefits for frequent visitors across multiple parks, though these usually relate to entrance fees rather than campsite discounts.
Reservations for J C Cooper Campground are highly recommended, especially during peak seasons (Memorial Day through Labor Day, and weekends in spring and fall) due to its popularity. Reservations can be made online through the official NC State Parks reservation portal (e.g., ReserveAmerica) or by calling the park directly. While there's a small online booking fee, the ability to secure a site, particularly a desirable lakefront or pull-through spot, far in advance is a significant benefit.

Customer Reviews
Happy with the site we were at. Right by the water. No trash anywhere. Bathrooms were clean, barley any bugs. Shower pressure wasnt bad. Hate the peep holes in the stalls. And only 1 hand towel dispenser, Saturday there was no towels left nor a air hand dryer And newly paved road. Was perfect to ride Longboards
Very nice campground. Has water and electricity hook up. They have a dump station. Very quiet area most of the time. Been there twice with no issues. Plenty of room for camper parking. They have some pull through camping areas too. Has a small beach and a very nice boat dock just for campers use only. I will go again.
Nice lake but not great for off shore fishing. The camp spots are packed in tight and reversing my camper into our spot required some skill. Great place for family and pups, we saw plenty of both. The roads are tiny so travel with caution. May return if we can find a spot near fishing areas.
The campground is beautiful. Campsites are spacious and have water access. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained.
The most beautiful park we’ve been in in a long time . The game warden was so friendly and concerned with everyone in the park during a storm, that forced us here. We stayed the night during the storm, and liked it so much the next day that I walked a mile back to the office in the rain, so I wouldn’t have to break camp on our RV, and on the way back the friendly Game Warden stopped and asked if he could give me a ride back to our RV. He also checked on every camper to make sure we were all safe. Definitely we will be back.
