Kerr Lake, also known as Buggs Island Lake, is a sprawling 50,000-acre reservoir that straddles the North Carolina-Virginia border. It's renowned for its extensive shoreline, clear waters, and abundant opportunities for fishing, boating, and various water sports. County Line Camping, as part of the broader Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, leverages this prime location to offer campers a direct connection to this magnificent resource. It provides a more laid-back atmosphere compared to some of the busier access points, making it a suitable choice for those who value quiet reflection and enjoying nature at a slower pace.
Visitors often appreciate the "great campsite" experiences they've had, noting the peaceful ambiance that permeates the park. While some minor inconveniences like "a slanted lot" or the noted issue with trash disposal might arise, the overall natural charm and quietude of County Line Camping remain its primary draw. The promise of "peaceful" surroundings and the opportunity to get "a lot of walking in" underscore its appeal for those looking to simply relax and enjoy the natural environment of Kerr Lake.

As a component of the North Carolina State Parks system, Kerr Lake, County Line Camping generally operates under a standardized fee structure, which aims to keep public access affordable. Specific, temporary promotional offers are not typically advertised directly for individual campgrounds. However, visitors should be aware of standard state park discounts. For instance, North Carolina State Parks often provide a discount for senior citizens (usually 62 and older) on camping fees, typically around 10% off. It's always advisable to verify eligibility and current discount policies directly with the park office or by checking the official North Carolina State Parks website when making reservations. Booking well in advance, especially during peak seasons, is recommended as popular sites can fill up quickly, even in quieter campgrounds. Customer Reviews
The person at the entrance acted like they couldn’t be bothered. Thankfully we didn’t need to interact with them any more than getting our parking pass. That being said, the lake is beautiful! We were unlucky with a slanted lot. But it didn’t take away from our stay
We had a great campsite. The park was peaceful. Got a lot of walking in. Bathrooms need a bit more attention but overall they are nicer than most. Very disappointed that there are no trash cans, anywhere in the park. The woman at the entrance did not know why. We saw a park worker often but we were unable to catch up to him. The host stated that they collected the trash cans during Covid and never put them back out. They want us to dispose of trash at the main entrance. This is unacceptable. While walking I would see an occasional drink can, food wrapper, and misc piece of trash. Cans only need to be addressed twice a day. I saw the park worker at least that much. Funding has nothing to do with it. If he has time to ride around in his truck he has time to change out a bag. Come on park system, take care of those that pay the bills
Large, private sites with lake access, reasonably priced. Gorgeous sunrise or sunset views, blue heron and eagle sightings. Basic restrooms without showers are nearby with a much nicer bathhouse in biking or driving distance.
I love the serenity and peacefulness of Kerr Lake. My family and I always enjoy it and we love teaching our kids about nature and how to care for it and enjoy it.
Great sunset views from site 55
