Introduction / Overview
Located on 150 scenic, wooded acres in the charming Midcoast town of Damariscotta, Lake Pemaquid Camping is a substantial, family-oriented campground centered around the beautiful Pemaquid Lake. For decades, this destination has been a popular choice for Maine families, offering over 200 diverse campsites, as well as cabin and cottage rentals, to accommodate every style of outdoor enthusiast. The environment is heavily geared toward family fun, featuring a wide array of activities, amenities, and regularly scheduled entertainment events throughout the camping season.
Lake Pemaquid Camping welcomes tents, trailers, and RVs, including big rigs, offering a variety of full or partial hookup sites. The core appeal lies in its comprehensive facilities and direct lakefront setting, ensuring that no matter the weather, there is always something to keep the whole family entertained. While the campground is known for providing a lively, activity-rich environment, prospective visitors should be aware that, like any long-established park, reviews can be mixed, with some long-term patrons noting the need for ongoing site maintenance and building repairs. However, the consistent theme is its family-friendly focus and the sheer volume of amenities provided for a memorable Maine camping experience.
Location and Accessibility
Lake Pemaquid Camping is conveniently located at 100 Twin Cove Ln, Damariscotta, ME 04543, USA. This places it in the highly desirable Midcoast region, a fantastic area for Maine residents due to its proximity to both beautiful inland lakes and the iconic coastline.
The primary natural feature is its placement on Pemaquid Lake, offering immediate access to watersports, fishing, and swimming. Furthermore, the campground is strategically situated near historic Damariscotta, known for its unique shops, restaurants, and local charm. Day trips are a breeze, connecting campers to famous coastal attractions such as Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Boothbay Harbor, and the museums and shops of Rockland and Camden. For RV users, the campground accommodates rigs up to 45 feet in length, and many sites are pull-through accessible. Visitors should note that the entrance may feel slightly complex (off Twin Cove Rd), and some campers have noted that certain areas can feel tightly packed, reflecting its popularity as a family destination.
Services Offered
The campground offers a high level of amenity service, setting it apart as a true recreational destination rather than just a place to park a unit.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Lake Pemaquid Camping is highly suitable for Maine residents, particularly families, because it offers a centralized, amenity-packed recreational hub in the desirable Midcoast region. This campground is designed for families with children, providing numerous on-site activities that prevent the inevitable "I'm bored" moments often associated with simpler campgrounds. The combination of the heated pool, jacuzzis, skate park, mini-golf, and a sandy beach on Pemaquid Lake means endless entertainment right outside your tent or RV.
While some long-term visitors have expressed concerns regarding maintenance or occasional issues with on-site disputes and communication—reflecting the nature of any large, densely populated summer destination—the overall draw remains the wide range of features and the friendly, family-oriented environment it aims to foster. For a Mainer seeking a convenient base to explore coastal towns while enjoying full-service lake camping with resort-level amenities and organized entertainment, Lake Pemaquid Camping provides an exceptional value and a high-energy vacation spot that has been a local tradition for generations.

We have gone a couple times a year for 20 years. It seems run down and most water sites you can't get to the docks because of overgrowth. Sites need gravel. Buildings need paint and repairs. This is our last year.
Sep 18, 2025 · Shannon WakefieldSeems like a very nice family oriented environment which is why we chose to camp here. In fact I'm here now. I am not happy with the way they handled a misunderstanding that they knew about, instead of coming and talking with me they basically allowed the other campers several of them to corner my family and let them yell and swear at us. It was a bad scene. But nobody has come to apologize or explain why that was ok. If I could get a refund I'd be gone today 8/17/ 2025, they've ruined my fun here people pointing at us when we go to the beach, like we are criminals or something.
Aug 17, 2025 · Scott ShepardPemaquid Campground is a place for active families. This isn’t a place you go to relax on vacation. If you’re there with family, there’s tons of activities for kids: 3 playgrounds, pool, hot tubs, skatepark, tennis, basketball court, arcade. They also host events on the weekends. This place is packed. Tons of kids running and riding around, making it a very loud place. Not to mention SO many dogs that are not quiet either (us and our neighbors showed up to the sites covered in dog poop). The sites are very close together, so you’re enjoying your camping experience with your neighbors. There’s a bit of beach access, but it’s pretty overrun with ducks/geese, boaters, and fishermen. The views in the dock area are beautiful, nonetheless. Some of the campsites have a nice view as well, with their own small beach. They have a store in the campground with mostly everything you could need, and the staff running it is friendly and helpful. The check-in desk and boathouse had friendly staff as well. The bathrooms are ok, definitely camp vibes, but get the job done. You do have to pay for showers. All in all: the campground has beautiful views, and tons of activities. If you’re looking to have a fun vacation with family then this place will satisfy you. If you’re looking for a relaxing trip… I’d skip.
Aug 04, 2025 · Arianne SullivanAlot for kids to do here, if you can get them away from the pool and hot tubs. 2 playgrounds. A kid friendly zip line. Beautiful beachy area by lake ( no dogs ). Nice dog park. Mini golf. Love band Saturday nights at the ballfield. Bike riding trail over by ballpark. Just so much to do. Safe place to let kids go while you relax by pool or at campsite. Friendly staff. Friendly campers for most part. Great place meet new friends. Highly recommend.
