Location and Accessibility
The location of Sherwood Forest Campsite is a significant factor in its appeal, placing visitors in the heart of the Pemaquid area, a jewel of the Midcoast.
Address: 32 Pemaquid Trail, New Harbor, ME 04554, USA
The site is ideally situated just 800 feet—an easy, short walk—from the Historical Pemaquid Beach. This is a critical distinction, as Pemaquid Beach is celebrated as one of the few true sandy beaches on this part of the Maine coast, featuring gentle waters and tide pools that are perfect for children. This proximity allows families to avoid parking fees and long carries, making spontaneous beach visits the norm.
Furthermore, the campground serves as an excellent launch point for exploring the entire peninsula. It is only a short drive or bike ride to the iconic Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, the Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site (home to Fort William Henry), and the bustling, quaint harbors of New Harbor and Damariscotta, where visitors can find local lobster shacks and ice cream shops. For those traveling by road, New Harbor is accessible via routes off US-1, providing relatively straightforward connections for Mainers coming from various parts of the state.

We just stayed in Cabin 3 for a week and it was perfect for our family of 4! Clean, comfy beds, TV with streaming channels for rainy days, and the kitchen had everything we needed. Appreciated the firepit and gas grill provided outside each cabin. Though each cabin has 2 units, there’s a solid wall separating the screened in porches and the outdoor seating areas are spaced out, so we barely noticed having neighbors. This was a great base for exploring the rest of the peninsula. It’s a short walk to the beautiful Pemaquid Beach, which is one of the only true sandy beaches in this entire area (and great for kids with its gentle water and tide pools). Short drive (or even bike ride) to the fort, lighthouse, ice cream, area lobster shacks, etc. It was also so quiet and peaceful at night here - great stargazing from the chairs outside our cabin! Overall a great value for the money and a great spot for a classic family beach vacation. Bring a fan or two if hot weather is predicted - there’s no ac, but it’s rarely needed at night in this area anyway. We will definitely return one day - hopefully next summer!!
Aug 03, 2025 · Shannon HoustonDespite the cold and the rain this was one of our best camping experiences! The hosts were incredible and helped us settle in making sure we had what we needed to stay warm and cozy. Hearing the ocean at night was so relaxing. Our site was quiet, and well protected by the trees. The whole area was clean and well cared for. We would recommend anyone to stay at Sherwood if they're on the midcoast.
May 26, 2025 · Samantha FieldsStayed for one night & it was really fun! There was a walkable beach access 10 mins away from our site which was really cool! Found a lot of sea glass!! Cute campsites, and bathrooms were clean. Staff were incredibly kind & welcoming!
Aug 14, 2025 · Kaitlyn GosselinWe stayed at Sherwood Forest Camping for a week and loved it! The campground is quiet, very clean, and well maintained. A relaxing and peaceful place – highly recommended!
Sep 06, 2025 · Augustin O.Saw a wicked heat wave headed toward us, so decided to espace to the coast, and pleasantly landed here. Picture being from the beach that is an easy walk, and easier bike ride away. However, it's Maine and it's woods. Bring your (every) mosquito repellant. We'll be back, accordingly-).
