Introduction / Overview
As Mainers, we know that the true spirit of a coastal getaway is often found far from the crowded tourist traps—in a place where the salt air is fresh, the views are expansive, and the pace of life slows to the rhythm of the tide. Sagadahoc Bay Campground, nestled on the stunning Georgetown Island in Midcoast Maine, embodies this perfect, low-key coastal experience. It is not an impersonal resort, but rather a traditional, welcoming campground focused on connecting visitors with the beautiful natural environment of Sagadahoc Bay.
Located at the head of the bay on the southern tip of Georgetown Island, this destination offers a truly unique oceanfront camping experience. It caters to a wide variety of campers, from those pitching a simple tent to those settling into a full-service RV site, and even those preferring the comforts of a rental cabin. Guests consistently praise the incredible views and the friendly, stress-free atmosphere that makes checking in feel like coming home. Sagadahoc Bay Campground provides a serene escape, making it a perfect spot for families, couples, and individuals looking to trade the hustle and bustle for peaceful mornings by the water and starlit nights.
The setting itself is a major draw. The campground is situated to maximize the dramatic coastal scenery, with sites positioned along the oceanfront, offering sweeping bay vistas, or tucked quietly at the base of a majestic 30-foot cliff face. This blend of ocean access and scenic backdrop ensures that every stay provides a memorable connection to the rugged, beautiful Maine coast. For locals across the state, from York County up to Aroostook, Sagadahoc Bay Campground represents an authentic, accessible slice of the Maine summer tradition.
Location and Accessibility
Sagadahoc Bay Campground is conveniently situated in the heart of Maine's Midcoast region, a geographic area known for its picturesque peninsulas, working harbors, and quaint villages. The specific address is 9 Molly Point Ln, Georgetown, ME 04548, USA. Georgetown Island itself is easily accessible by bridge from the mainland, connecting it to Route 1—Maine’s scenic coastal highway.
The campground sits on the southern end of the island, meaning visitors enjoy a peaceful, somewhat secluded environment while still being within a reasonable driving distance of larger towns and local amenities. Its location provides convenient access to numerous local points of interest. Nearby Reid State Park, with its sandy beaches and tidal salt marsh, is a short drive away, offering additional opportunities for swimming and exploration. For those seeking classic Maine seafood, the charming fishing village of Five Islands is also close by. While the campground offers a feeling of getting away from it all, the accessibility is straightforward, making the drive stress-free for Mainers embarking on a weekend retreat.
Note that, as is common with many genuine coastal Maine properties, the access road leading to the campground may have some rustic stretches. However, the destination—premier oceanfront views and a peaceful bayfront—is well worth the short drive down the peninsula.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For residents of Maine, Sagadahoc Bay Campground is more than just a place to park an RV; it is a quintessential Maine coastal experience that is genuinely accessible. It represents the authentic, rugged, and naturally beautiful character of the Midcoast that many locals seek for their own getaways. Instead of driving hours out of state or settling for an overly-commercialized resort, Mainers can find a low-key, family-friendly sanctuary right here at home.
The draw of being able to step out of your tent or RV and be just feet away from a stunning bay view is unparalleled. The communal, relaxed nature, often highlighted by the friendly staff and returning campers, resonates with the welcoming spirit of Maine. The ability to engage in uniquely Maine activities—like digging for your own clams or having fresh lobster delivered to your site—transforms a simple camping trip into an unforgettable coastal tradition. While it maintains a traditional, rustic edge, the essential services, including Wi-Fi, water, and power, ensure that the stay is comfortable. Whether you’re a long-time Mainer looking for a serene spot to unplug, or a family hoping to introduce your children to the magic of exploring tidal flats, Sagadahoc Bay Campground offers the perfect blend of natural beauty, friendly service, and a truly authentic Maine vacation experience.
A Local Note on Preparedness:
As highlighted by past visitors, part of camping in Maine’s beautiful natural environment means being prepared for all of its elements. The stunning coastal location, especially near standing water, can occasionally lead to overwhelming mosquito activity, depending on the season and weather conditions. Local users accustomed to the Maine woods and coast know that ample insect protection—from high-quality sprays to screen shelters—is a necessity for any outdoor stay, and this campground is no exception. A little local preparation ensures the extraordinary views and low-tide explorations remain the focus of your memorable Georgetown stay.

This was our second time staying at Sagadahoc Bay Campground, and once again, the views were absolutely amazing! This visit was extra special since we had a waterfront site, and waking up to that ocean view was incredible. Check-in was smooth and easy, and the woman who greeted us was so friendly and welcoming. The bathhouses are about what you’d expect for a traditional campground—nothing fancy, a little older, but functional. The only real downside was the mosquitoes. They were overwhelming to the point that it really impacted our experience. We noticed some standing water at the site next to ours, which may have contributed. We came prepared with bug spray, but honestly, we would have needed more bug nets or screen shelters to make it comfortable. In the end, the bugs were so bad that we decided to leave a night early. Overall, the location and views are unbeatable, and we’ve enjoyed this campground before. If you plan to stay, definitely bring plenty of bug protection—more than you think you’ll need—and consider checking what the bug conditions are like for the time of year you’re visiting.
Aug 22, 2025 · Tess MoreyWhat a relaxing vacation spot! Beautiful views, and convenient access to the bay. The friendly staff made the check in process stress free. If you’re looking for a low key campground without all the hustle and bustle this is the place for you. We enjoyed leaving our phones behind and exploring the flats at low tide and even tried our hand at clamming, what fun! The other campers who return year after year were super friendly. Can’t wait to go back!
Aug 13, 2025 · Karie MurphyIf you're a no-frills tent camper that loves being in nature, this is a hidden gem. The tent sites are spacious and set far enough back from each other that you get privacy. The bathrooms and shower were suitable. The owner is lovely and has heaps of information for visitors. There are also calm rakes for rent. There's a small beach with some rocks on site that are great for fishing. I'll be back again next year.
Jul 13, 2025 · Alexie RudmanI almost don't want to leave a review because I'd like to keep this place secret. Such a fabulous location and the sites are all remarkably beautiful. Loved the owners. Very friendly and accomodating. But the real treasure was the clam digging. My wife has always wanted to do this and it was whole family fun. For a forty dollar permit we dug over ten bounds of clams some almost as big as my hand! And they were all incredibly sweet and delicious. Thank you for this truly wonderful campground.
Sep 02, 2025 · Dug FreshA beautiful campground on the bay. We 've stayed several times tent camping along the ocean and always had a great experience. The campsites and amenities are very well kept. The owners are very nice, hard working individuals. If you enjoy the ocean, camping, digging clams on the bay at low tide or walking along the shore your family will love it.
