Mason-Dixon Campground is situated at 4121 Greenville Rd, Meyersdale, PA 15552, USA. This address places it high atop the Allegheny Front in Somerset County, a picturesque region of Southwestern Pennsylvania known for its rolling hills, vast wooded areas, and significant outdoor recreational opportunities.

One of the key advantages of this location is its elevated position at "almost 3000 feet," which offers cooler temperatures, particularly during the summer months, providing a welcome escape from the heat. This high-elevation setting contributes to the quiet, serene atmosphere that campers frequently praise.

Accessibility to Mason-Dixon Campground is generally good. Meyersdale, a small and charming borough, is well-connected by state routes. The campground’s proximity to major trail systems is a significant highlight. It serves as a gateway to the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP Trail), a world-renowned rail-trail popular for biking and hiking. This means campers can easily access miles of scenic, relatively flat pathways for their outdoor pursuits right from the campground's vicinity.

For those interested in historical attractions, the campground’s name itself hints at its connection to the historic Mason-Dixon Line, a significant geographical and historical landmark. While directly in a tranquil setting, Mason-Dixon Campground also offers convenient access to a range of regional attractions. Nearby are the Casselman River (offering fishing), and within a reasonable driving distance are major outdoor recreation hubs like Ohiopyle State Park, known for whitewater rafting, natural slides, and stunning waterfalls. Even Cumberland, Maryland, a destination for scenic train rides (like the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad), is easily reachable, offering a different kind of adventure just across the state line. This strategic location, balancing peaceful mountain seclusion with excellent access to trails, rivers, and regional attractions, makes Mason-Dixon Campground highly accessible for locals seeking diverse recreational experiences.

Services Offered

  • RV Sites: Mason-Dixon Campground primarily accommodates RVs, offering "short-term pull through sites" that are noted for being "quite spacious." While reviews mention the absence of 50 AMP service, and suggest basic hookups (water, 30 AMP electricity, and sewer) are common for RV parks.
  • Tent Camping: While emphasis is often on RVs, many campgrounds in Pennsylvania also offer areas for tent camping. It's best to confirm tent site availability and specific amenities provided for tenters.
  • Drinking Water: Access to drinking water is a standard amenity, ensuring campers have a potable water source.
  • Toilet Facilities: Basic toilet facilities are provided. Customer reviews specifically mention that the "shower house was clean," indicating a commitment to maintaining hygienic restroom facilities.
  • Shady Sites: The campground is highlighted for having "really shady" sites, which is a valuable amenity, especially during warmer months, providing natural cooling and comfort.
  • Fire Pits/Rings: Standard for most campgrounds, fire rings or pits are typically available at campsites for campfires and outdoor cooking.
  • Recreation Hall and Game Room: Some public information suggests the presence of a "recreation hall and game room," providing indoor spaces for leisure and activities, though the extent of their offering would vary.
  • Fishing and Hunting Access: The surrounding area offers opportunities for fishing and hunting, making the campground a convenient base for these popular outdoor sports.

It is important to note, as highlighted in reviews, that while the value is excellent, some traditional RV park amenities such as Wi-Fi, cable TV, and strong TV reception may be limited or unavailable. This emphasizes the rustic and disconnected nature of the camping experience offered.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the provided customer reviews and general public data, Mason-Dixon Campground appears to distinguish itself primarily through its consistent "excellent value" and highly affordable nightly rates, rather than through specific, widely advertised short-term promotions or discounts. The recurring mention of a "$30 per night" cost suggests this is a standard, competitive rate that acts as an ongoing value proposition for campers.

While explicit "promotions" like holiday specials or group discounts are not detailed in the available information, it is common for privately owned campgrounds to offer:

  • Long-Stay Discounts: Campgrounds often provide reduced rates for weekly or monthly stays compared to nightly rates. Given its affordability, this could make extended visits even more economical.
  • Off-Season Rates: While the campground is noted to be open seasonally (typically May 1 to October 31), camping during the shoulder seasons (early May or late October) might sometimes offer slightly better rates or certainly more availability and a quieter experience.
  • Loyalty Programs: Some private campgrounds might have informal or formal loyalty programs for returning customers, although this is not specified for Mason-Dixon Campground.

The core "special offer" here appears to be the consistent provision of a quiet, spacious, and friendly camping experience at a significantly lower price point compared to many other RV parks and campgrounds in the region, especially considering its proximity to popular attractions like the Great Allegheny Passage.

Looks shaky, but excellent value. First impression is this RV park, let’s say, needs some serious work. But once in our spot, we realized this place is a keeper. Like others have said, the short-term pull through sites are quite spacious and really shady, the owners are friendly, and the place is very quiet. And while there are few amenities (no Wi-fi, no cable, no 50 AMP service, poor TV reception) the cost is only $30 per night. We will be back.
