The campground is nestled within a lovely city park, offering a peaceful environment despite its in-town location. The park’s location along the Millpond and in close proximity to the Black River enhances its appeal for water-based activities, such as kayaking, as highlighted by a satisfied customer who noted being "50 feet from the river." While the campground is in the city, providing convenient access to local shops and services, some sites are located along a fairly busy street. However, the overall sentiment from campers is that it remains "quiet and easy going," allowing for a relaxing experience.
Accessibility to amenities within the park is also noteworthy. While the main bathroom facilities are located near the pool area across the street, they are described as "surprisingly clean for a public park restroom." This suggests a well-maintained facility, although campers are advised to be aware of the distance, especially at night. For those arriving by RV or trailer, the campground offers paved sites that are generally level, making set-up straightforward. The presence of nearby towns with essential services, such as an ACE hardware store and a well-stocked supermarket, further enhances the convenience for campers, ensuring you can easily acquire any necessities during your stay. As a municipal campground operated by the City of Medford, Medford Park Campground primarily focuses on providing affordable and accessible camping options for everyone. At present, specific, widely advertised seasonal promotions or special offers, such as discounted rates for extended stays beyond the standard daily fee, are not publicly detailed for this particular campground. The consistent daily fee of $15.00 already represents a highly competitive and budget-friendly rate for camping with water and electric hookups in Wisconsin. This straightforward pricing structure ensures that the campground remains an excellent value year-round for its operating season.
However, it's always a good practice for potential campers to check the official City of Medford website or directly contact the city’s recreation department for the most current information. While the core offering is a consistently low daily rate, local municipalities occasionally introduce temporary discounts or special events that might coincide with your visit. For instance, events held within the broader Medford City Park, which the campground is a part of, might indirectly enhance the value of your stay by offering additional activities or attractions without direct camping discounts.
It is important to note that some camping discount programs (like Good Sam, AAA, etc.) often apply to private campgrounds or larger national forest campgrounds. Given Medford Park Campground's status as a city park facility, these broader discount programs typically do not apply. The inherent affordability and first-come, first-served convenience are themselves key advantages, offering excellent value without the need for additional promotions for many campers. Therefore, the primary "promotion" is its consistently low daily rate, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers and locals seeking a simple, affordable escape.

Medford Park Campground is truly a gem for locals across Wisconsin, offering an accessible, affordable, and enjoyable camping experience without the need to travel far from home. Its location within a well-maintained city park means you get the best of both worlds: the tranquility of nature with the convenience of nearby urban amenities. For just $15 a night, residents can enjoy waterfront sites with essential hookups, a value that’s hard to beat anywhere else in the state. This makes it an ideal choice for spontaneous weekend getaways or even longer stays, as allowed by their generous 14-day limit.
What makes this campground particularly suitable for locals is its emphasis on simplicity and direct access to recreational activities. Imagine waking up and being just steps away from the Black River, ready to launch your kayak for a peaceful morning paddle. Or, perhaps, taking a leisurely stroll or bike ride on the "very nice walkway path around the lake/pond" and connecting to the extensive Pine Line Trail. The presence of a public swimming pool and other park amenities nearby adds another layer of enjoyment, especially for families with children looking for more than just a campfire.
Furthermore, the first-come, first-served system, while requiring a bit of flexibility, means that locals can often find a spot without the hassle of advance booking or competitive reservation systems that are common with larger, more publicized campgrounds. This ease of access encourages more frequent, spur-of-the-moment adventures. The positive feedback from previous campers consistently highlights the quiet atmosphere and the excellent job the city has done in maintaining the park.
In essence, Medford Park Campground is more than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV; it’s an extension of the local community’s commitment to providing quality outdoor recreation. It’s a place where you can disconnect from the daily grind, reconnect with nature, and create lasting memories, all within a short drive from your Wisconsin home. For any local seeking an uncomplicated, budget-friendly, and genuinely pleasant camping experience, Medford Park Campground stands out as an undeniable top choice. Pack your gear, and discover your next favorite Wisconsin getaway.
Customer Reviews
This is an excellent City Park with a very nice walkway path around the lake/pond. Overnight fee for camping was $15. Great job Medford.
Quiet and easy going. First come first served. Bathroom is by the pool area across the street. Long walk at night if you don't know the area. Bring your kayak because you are 50 feet from the river.
Extend the campsites please. And they allowed "the Zinger" camper to stay all summer for construction workers. Work is done in town and was still sitting there with no sign of campers.
30/50 amp on the west side of the street. 30/20 on the east side of the street against the river. Beautiful little city park. Empty when we got here on a Wednesday although it's on a fairly busy road which kinda sucks. Other than that it's nice. No sewer hookups but there is a restroom about 200 yards away near the pool. Restroom was surprisingly clean for a public park restroom. Sites are level and paved. 43mbps TMobile and 24mbps Verizon (visible).
Cute campground, right by the water and trails. City park to the north, memorial park to east around the water. Lots of birds in the water.
