For us Tennesseans, when we look for a local campground in a popular area like Pigeon Forge, we often prioritize factors like cleanliness, safety, value, and a welcoming atmosphere that allows us to enjoy our time in the mountains. Based on the provided customer reviews, Shady Oaks Campgrounds-Cabins presents a challenging picture in meeting these common expectations.
The feedback consistently points to significant concerns regarding the condition of facilities ("dump," "nasty" bathrooms, "dirty" showers), general upkeep ("huge pile of trash," "smells like cat urine"), and a reported "unprofessional and unsafe" atmosphere, with mentions of "drug infested" conditions, frequent police presence, and "shady looking characters" who are long-term residents rather than typical campers. The described demeanor of the staff and owner also raises flags about the overall guest experience.
While its location in Pigeon Forge does offer proximity to local attractions, the overwhelming negative comments suggest that the core elements of a comfortable and safe camping or cabin experience may not be consistently met. As locals, we seek places that offer a genuine escape and a pleasant environment for our families and ourselves. Therefore, based on the current public reviews, potential guests from Tennessee should approach Shady Oaks Campgrounds-Cabins with caution and conduct thorough direct inquiries to ascertain if its current state aligns with their personal requirements for cleanliness, safety, and comfort before making a reservation. It appears to be a location that, as one reviewer noted, would benefit significantly from "new management" and a comprehensive "clean-up" to become a more suitable option for a typical Tennessee mountain getaway.

Place looks like a dump as there is huge pile of trash where they tore apart a trailer. Drug infested, police there a lot. Bathrooms in bad condition, no toilet paper or anything to dry hand on. Showers drip continually with cigarette buts in them. Cold. One bathroom under office is nasty. Staff looks like trash and on drugs. Owner also seems either high or drunk and is grumpy. Would be a nice and pretty place if new management took over and cleaned up the place and got rid of some of the people who live there. Am desperately searching for different place to live. No cable anymore . Overpriced.
Feb 11, 2016 · Pamela McillwainIt really isn't much of a campground. It's pretty much a run down trailer park where the owners let you pitch a tent. The atmosphere is very unprofessional and unsafe. The bathhouse conditions were very dirty and had no toilet paper or paper towels. The office is their house and when you walk inside it smells like cat urine. There were barking dogs tied up and shady looking characters hanging around on their porches... they lived there. They weren't campers. We felt very uncomfortable. It wouldn't surprise me at all if some of those trailers were meth labs. Yes. . .it was THAT bad.
May 19, 2015 · ari tUpon first arrival The old man was difficult to say the least. He smelled like 3 day old whisky and cursed us all the way to the cabin for being 15 minutes late. We wanted to see if the cabin was inhabitable due to some reviews on the web. He did not like this at all. "Inhabitable?! What do you mean inhabitable?!?!!" Was his reaction to our request. I loved the cabin and will go next year. hell its just a 40 dollar/night cabin what do you expect!!!!!!! worth the money for a little campin' cabin! Just bring your own bed sheets.....
Sep 15, 2013 · Travis GrandyAs a previous reviewer noted, this place isn't a campground. It's a rundown trailer park that lets you pitch tents. The bad: our campground had a pile of trash, broken glass and dog feces littered across it. No fire pit. Location was next to a busy road. Bathhouse, while relatively clean, had no toilet paper, soap or paper towels. Grounds poorly maintained. The good: it was cheap. Also when we complained about these issues they apologized and gave us a discount.
May 27, 2015 · Brian MagsipocWill NEVER stay there again. We stayed in the little A-frame cabins. When we got there, it was a younger man who took our money. He stunk and had on a ripped t-shirt and ripped up jogging pants. He had tattoos everywhere and he talked of just getting out of prison. We walked in the cabin and I almost cried. The beds were half made and you could tell that the sheets hadn't been changed from the previous renters. The bedspreads were ripped and had holes in them. The curtain was a torn sheet just thrown over the window. The TV didn't work well, the door wouldn't lock properly, and to be honest I was scared. Permanent residents live there and it's just awful. They look like drug addicts, and crack hoes. The place is disgusting. We were scared to leave our things there while we went into the town,we were scared to take a shower, and scared to sleep. The people that live there just walk around like they are just waiting for a sucker to rob or beat. They give no refunds, so after staying there about 4 hrs, we just left. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone at all!!!!
