Mill Dam Group Campground isn't your typical individual campsite; it's specifically designed to accommodate larger parties, making it an ideal choice for organized events. It provides ample space and amenities tailored for groups, ensuring everyone has room to relax and participate in shared activities. Visitors have consistently praised its suitability for group outings, with one reviewer noting it as a "Beautiful site for group outings." The focus here is on providing a peaceful and functional base from which groups can enjoy the natural splendor of the Ocala National Forest.
The charm of Mill Dam Group Campground lies in its rustic yet well-maintained environment. While it offers a back-to-basics camping experience, it provides essential facilities that enhance comfort for groups. Its picturesque setting on the clear waters of Mill Dam Lake is a significant draw, offering opportunities for swimming, boating, and simply enjoying the tranquility of a natural Florida landscape. This campground is perfect for Floridians looking to escape the urban sprawl and immerse themselves in the quiet beauty of one of the state's most significant natural treasures, all within a dedicated space for their private gathering.
Mill Dam Group Campground is located at 19657 FL-40, Silver Springs, FL 34488, USA. This address places it squarely within the renowned Ocala National Forest, a vast and wild expanse offering a true escape into Florida's unique ecosystems. While it feels wonderfully secluded, its position along State Road 40 ensures good accessibility for Floridians traveling from various parts of the state.
The campground is approximately 15 miles east of Silver Springs, a town well-known for the iconic Silver Springs State Park and its glass-bottom boat tours. This means that while you're enjoying the tranquility of the forest, major attractions and essential amenities are still within a reasonable driving distance. The city of Ocala, offering a broader range of grocery stores, restaurants, retail shopping, and medical facilities, is about a 36-minute drive to the west, providing convenient access for stocking up on supplies or handling any unexpected needs.
For those traveling from further afield in Florida, State Road 40 is a key east-west artery, connecting to major north-south routes like US-19, US-301, and I-75. This allows for relatively straightforward travel from cities such as Orlando (approximately 1.5 hours southeast), Gainesville (about an hour north), or Daytona Beach (roughly an hour east). The campground's location deep within the Ocala National Forest also means it serves as an excellent base for exploring other natural springs and recreational areas within the forest, such as Juniper Springs, Alexander Springs, and Salt Springs, all of which are popular destinations for swimming, paddling, and hiking. The peaceful drive through the forest itself contributes to the overall relaxing experience, setting the tone for a refreshing group retreat.

Mill Dam Group Campground offers a range of features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for group gatherings in the Ocala National Forest.

- Beautiful Lake Access: The campground sits directly on the 168-acre Mill Dam Lake, offering opportunities for swimming in "very clear" water at a "pretty mini beach," as one reviewer described. It's also ideal for non-motorized boating like kayaking and paddleboarding, and fishing for bass.

- Cleanliness and Maintenance: Recent reviews suggest that the site and facilities, including bathrooms, are "clean and well cared for," and that the "entire park was clean," indicating a positive experience for visitors.
- Security: The ability to "lock the gate behind you" at the group camp provides an added sense of security and privacy, as noted by a Boy Scout Troop leader who praised it as one of the best campsites they'd used.
As a U.S. Forest Service site within the Ocala National Forest, Mill Dam Group Campground's pricing and "promotions" differ from commercial campgrounds. The cost for renting the group camp has increased over the years, reflecting its value and demand. It is typically rented as a single unit for groups, rather than per person or per tent.
While specific promotional deals are not common, the inherent affordability of national forest camping, especially for groups, often makes it a cost-effective choice compared to private venues. The current pricing for group camps like Mill Dam can vary, but generally, it's designed to be accessible for organizations and large family gatherings. It is crucial to check the official booking platform, Recreation.gov, for the most accurate and up-to-date pricing, availability, and any specific policies regarding reservations or cancellations. Sometimes, off-peak season (outside of holidays) might offer slightly better availability, which could be considered a form of "promotion" for those with flexible schedules. The $5 boat launch fee is a consistent charge for using the lake access.

Beautiful site for group outings, small but clean bathrooms
This is a good little group camp and day use area. Pretty simple and small with a pretty mini beach. Cost is $5 to put a boat in the small Mill Dam Lake or go to the day use to swim. The water is very clear. I appreciate the small sand sculptures I found left over from the weekend visitors. :)
Large group campground, nice lake and beach. No electricity hook up (no sockets or anything), barely adequate pavilions. Pavilions and tables were inadequate for our group of about 70. Aside from the lake, there are no hiking or biking trails leading from this campsite.
Nice campground except for ticks . They need to have someone spray.beautiful roped off swimming area, restrooms but no showers. They also need more lighting to the restrooms at night
This is a day use area during the warmer months but during the winter it's a private Group campground. It's a beautiful campground very accessible with huge parking area and very private. Lots of picnic benches and grills and beautiful view of the lake. Also has flushing toilets and change rooms. We took our Boy Scout Troop camping here and had a great time. Only downside I could say is if you have a lot of camping gear you will have to walk it in from the parking lot. See Recreation.gov for more information or to book the site.
