For New York residents looking to unplug, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the great outdoors without the hefty price tag often associated with major tourist destinations, Millbrook Reservoir Campground presents an ideal Central New York getaway. Located in the charming rural landscape of New Berlin in Chenango County, this location—also known as Doc. Meyers Recreation Park—is more than just a place to pitch a tent; it’s a community-focused recreation hub built around a picturesque reservoir. The property is managed by the Town of New Berlin, giving it an authentic, local feel that many New Yorkers seek.
Millbrook Reservoir is a man-made lake, roughly 50 acres in area, originally designed for flood control but now serving as a popular recreational resource. It offers a variety of activities for all ages, from refreshing dips in the swimming area to tranquil fishing and kayaking on the reservoir's waters. Importantly, the atmosphere is noted by local users to be highly family-friendly and welcoming. This campground is proudly non-“fancy”—it prioritizes affordability and fundamental outdoor experiences, which is a significant draw for local users who value accessible leisure. The park is a seasonal operation, typically open for camping from mid-May through mid-October, and offers day-use activities throughout the year.

We absolutely love going here with the kids. Day swimming completely free, you can choose to go camping at an affordable rate and it is definitely family friendly. If you are looking for the fancy campgrounds this isn't it but they do have bathrooms playgrounds, fishing, swimming, and you can kayak or float around as well. We LOVE it here.

Aug 27, 2025 · Rick CrowellYou have to pay to camp around 25 dollar per night, they have campsite for rv they cost around 30 dollar, you book on their town website. I love going here, they have clean bathroom and portapotty. The reservoir is nice and clean, swimming is available and you can fish and kayak.
Jul 17, 2024 · Thein lan PawStunning spot! A beautiful trail takes you around the reservoir — an easy hike with some big hills. During the summer, a small beach is open. Swim at your own risk (no lifeguard). Water isn’t too cold. (I went for a run around the reservoir and then went for a quick swim to cool off — definitely would recommend that to all the running fans!)
