Location and Accessibility

Miners Creek Hideout is ideally situated at 408-718 Miners Creek Rd, Guttenberg, IA 52052, USA. This location places it right on the south edge of the charming town of Guttenberg, nestled in a scenic valley. Its position is perfect for locals, offering convenient access from various parts of Iowa. From Cedar Rapids, it's approximately a 1 hour and 45-minute drive, while Des Moines residents can expect a journey of about 3 hours. Even from Dubuque, it's a manageable drive of roughly an hour.

The campground itself has a spring-fed, cold-water stream running through it, adding to its natural charm and appeal for anglers. While GPS might sometimes try to route you down twisty gravel roads north of Guttenberg, the campground's official directions advise turning west onto C7X/Garber Road at the south edge of Guttenberg and then an immediate right onto Miner's Creek Road. Once the paved road turns to gravel, you're only about half a mile away, nestled on the left. Features / Highlights

  • Exceptional Hospitality: Consistently highlighted in reviews, the "great hospitality" and helpfulness of the staff (like CJ mentioned by a camper) create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, often going above and beyond to assist guests.
  • Quiet and Beautiful Environment: The campground is praised for its tranquil setting and well-kept, beautiful grounds. Its location in a valley with a spring-fed creek running through it provides a naturally serene backdrop.

  • Proximity to Mississippi River: The campground is very close to the Mississippi River, offering opportunities for river fishing (from banks or a fishing barge), boating, and exploring the river's backwaters near Lock & Dam.
  • Flexible Seasonal Access: Unlike many campgrounds that strictly adhere to a summer-only schedule, Miners Creek Hideout has shown flexibility, even allowing camping in non-rented seasonal spots during the off-season, with facilities like the bathhouse and dump station remaining open. This is a significant advantage for early spring or late fall campers.
  • Variety of Campsite Settings: Campers can choose between sites nestled among pine trees for shade or those with less trees and more sun, catering to individual preferences. Sites are often described as fairly level and graveled.

Promotions or Special Offers

Miners Creek Hideout focuses on providing competitive and flexible rates for its variety of camping options rather than frequent, widely advertised promotions. However, the value offered, especially for extended stays, can be seen as a form of ongoing special offer.

  • Seasonal Site Rentals: The campground provides seasonal campsite rentals, offering a long-term, cost-effective solution for those who wish to have a dedicated spot for the entire camping season. Inquiries for seasonal rental are encouraged.
  • Monthly Rates: For those planning extended visits, full hookup sites are available for $450 per month, which offers significant savings compared to nightly rates.
  • Nightly Rates: Full hookup sites can be rented nightly for $65, and primitive sites for $25 per night, offering flexibility for shorter stays. Cabin rental rates vary depending on the specific cabin and duration.
  • Hospitality in Off-Season: While not a traditional "promotion," the willingness of the staff to accommodate campers during the off-season (e.g., March in the Midwest, as noted in a review) when other campgrounds are closed, and ensuring essential facilities like the bathhouse and dump station are operational, provides immense value and a unique opportunity that many other places do not offer.

It is always recommended to contact Miners Creek Hideout directly by phone or email to inquire about current availability, specific pricing for your desired dates, and any unadvertised offers that might be available.

It’s March in the Midwest and CJ let us camp in a non rented seasonal spot. The bath house was open and there’s a spigot on the outside so we could fill our tank and have water in our unit. The dump station was ready to use too. The site was fairly level and gravel. The electrical hookup was up to date and worked as it should. It’s hard to find a place to camp this time of year and we really appreciate the hospitality! We like to trout fish bin this area and it is a beautiful place to visit near the Mississippi River And the quant little town of Guttenburg.

Great hospitality! This place really helped us out when many other campgrounds in the area were full, and it was getting late. Saved us more driving around looking for an open campsite! Can’t thank you enough!! Beautiful, quiet campground.

My family has always loved this place from the first time we had been there. We always rent the large cabin. Denis was the owner and he was always great! We had just recently went again last weekend and in all honesty, it has went down hill with the new owners. We were told check in was at 11, we get there and have to wait an hour to get into the cabin as they were 'cleaning.' When we got into the cabin, it was filthy. There was dog hair everywhere, nothing had been vacuumed or swept. There was dog poop in the yard that we had to clean up and there was no propane in the tank for the grill. We were very disappointed with our trip this time and unfortunately will not be coming back.
