Perrault Lake Campground stands out as a charming, unofficial lakeside camping spot, cherished by those in the know. It operates with a very relaxed, informal atmosphere, indicative of its free, dispersed camping nature. While there are no official rules posted, the community of campers who frequent the area demonstrate a respectful co-existence, with a mix of short-term and potentially longer-term visitors. The campground caters to a range of setups, with space for most size rigs, though large Class A motorhomes might find the terrain tight and rough. The presence of a small beach and a canoe launch makes it ideal for those who enjoy getting out on the water for a paddle or a leisurely afternoon. Perrault Lake is also a well-known spot for local anglers, attracting many who come to fish its waters. Despite its popularity, especially on weekends, visitors note that the campground often clears out, offering periods of peaceful solitude. This friendly, community-oriented vibe, combined with its natural amenities, makes Perrault Lake Campground a beloved rustic retreat for those seeking a genuine, no-frills Michigan camping experience.

Nice little lakeside free camping spot. No rules posted, so I'm not sure if it's technically allowed but there are several folks posted up here, some look to be longer term. There's room for most size rigs but would be tight and rough for a large class A. There are maybe 4 spots that are remotely flat enough for a rig but a few more spots that are great for tents. There's a small beach/canoe launch. Lots of locals come to fish but everyone seems nice!
Jul 19, 2023 · Shyla JobeNice free site, was very busy our first night but the next day it cleared out to 3 people and on the 3rd day only one other camper. It is a pretty popular spot for locals to come and roam so be ready for a little in & out traffic. Also had great access to ORV trails, we made a day of riding up to Copper Harbor.
Oct 05, 2023 · Nicole WisniewskiNice spot but can be filled up with campers very quickly. No privacy by the main camp area. I found a road off to the left before going into the camp area that leads to the other side of the lake if you want more privacy. 4x4 and some clearance is required for this road because of the mud, deep puddles, and some steeper incline. I would definitely come back here. Btw, no bathrooms
Feb 10, 2022 · CallenThis boondocking spot was quite lovely for the week. Parked right on the lake, beautiful woods, an easy trail around the lake, remote and unpopular, yet only 15 minutes to downtown city of Houghton...what more could you ask for? We lovvvvved it here! Although it's called a "campground" on the map, it's really not ... No toilets, hookups, staff etc, just a remote section of the woods carved out (naturally I believe?) that people boondock at. It's great! In our 2 years of full time travel, it was definitely a gem of a boondocking spot.
Aug 29, 2023 · Tom CBoondock camping here. Trout catching. Beautiful area. Looks like a few campers have been there for a while!!!
