Whether you’re a seasoned camper, a family looking for a memorable weekend getaway, or an avid outdoor enthusiast, this campground provides a comfortable and convenient base. It’s designed to cater to various camping preferences, from those who prefer the simplicity of a tent site to others who appreciate the convenience of an electric hookup for their RV.

What truly sets Portsmouth Campground apart is its connection to the vibrant outdoor scene of the Cuyuna Lakes. This area is renowned for its world-class mountain biking trails and crystal-clear lakes, offering a diverse range of activities right at your fingertips. Imagine waking up to the fresh Minnesota air, stepping out of your campsite, and almost immediately being able to hit a challenging bike trail or launch your paddleboard onto a serene lake. This seamless integration with nature and recreation is what makes Portsmouth Campground a highly attractive option for Minnesota locals looking to maximize their outdoor time.

The campground prides itself on offering a straightforward and enjoyable camping experience. While it focuses on the essentials, it delivers on what truly matters: a peaceful environment, access to key amenities like bathrooms and showers, and an unbeatable location. It’s a place where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and reconnect with nature, all within a reasonable drive from many Minnesota communities. For us locals, finding a campground that balances accessibility with an authentic outdoor feel is key, and Portsmouth Campground certainly ticks those boxes.

Portsmouth Campground is conveniently located at 18071 Co Rd 30, Crosby, MN 56441, USA. This address places it right in the heart of the Cuyuna Lakes region, a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts across Minnesota. Its proximity to the towns of Ironton and Crosby means that while you’re enjoying the tranquility of nature, you’re never too far from local amenities, shops, and eateries, should you need them. These towns are even an easy bike ride away from the campground, offering a pleasant excursion for campers looking to explore the local area.

Accessibility to the campground is straightforward, making it an easy drive for most Minnesota residents. The location on County Road 30 ensures clear signage and relatively easy navigation, even for first-time visitors to the area. This convenient access is a significant advantage, allowing you to spend less time traveling and more time enjoying your camping experience. Furthermore, the campground's direct access to various biking trails means you can literally pedal your way from your campsite onto the renowned Cuyuna trail system, eliminating the need to load up your bikes and drive to a trailhead.

Another notable aspect of its location is its direct proximity to Portsmouth Lake. As many campers have highlighted, a quick two-minute walk from the campground leads you directly to a beautiful sandy beach and swim area on the lake. This immediate lake access is a huge draw, especially during the warmer months, providing opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and simply enjoying the clear, cool waters that Minnesota is famous for. For those with paddleboards or kayaks, the ease of launching directly from the nearby beach is an added bonus, allowing for spontaneous aquatic adventures.

While Portsmouth Campground focuses on providing a straightforward and natural camping experience, it's worth noting that it operates without a dedicated campground office or an on-site dump station. This means that campers needing to empty their RVs will need to plan for an off-site solution. Many locals are familiar with nearby options, such as the dump station at Father Hennepin State Park, which one camper noted as a viable detour. It’s always a good idea to download the campground map before your arrival to help with navigation and site selection, especially if you have a preference for shaded perimeter sites. For current information on promotions or special offers, it is recommended to contact Portsmouth Campground directly, as these can vary seasonally or based on availability.

Nice campground, electric only and tent sites. Bathrooms with showers are on-site. No water or sewer at campsites. Nice beach and swim area. Close to boat launch and many biking trails in the area with direct access from the campground.

Convenient to trails and an easy 2 minute walk to a sandy beach on Portsmouth Lake. The campground is okay, the outer edge campsites were shaded. We were at campsite 22 in the center of the campground and had little to no shade. Felt a bit like sitting at a table in the middle of a restaurant, so if you don’t mind that, the 20’s campsites would be fine, or if you were camping with friends and booked several of the campsites in the 20’s together, it could be okay. The shower/bath house was just okay and could use some TLC. No campground office or dump station. We detoured home to stop by Father Hennepin State Park to use the RV dump station there. I’m sure there must be one closer to Cuyuna but I wanted to check out the Father Hennepin park so didn’t mind going there. We loved the lake and were happy we brought our paddle boards. Amazingly clear and cool water. The mountain biking trails were well maintained and not too difficult but a fun ride. TONS of trails so you could spend days riding. Ironton & Crosby are an easy bike ride from the campground. Make sure to download the campground map before heading out. Would stay here again but only if we could snag a campsite on the perimeter of the campground.

Catch the bike trails right from Portsmouth campground. Drive-through spaces with electric have easy access but are limited in the number of spaces available.

This is an awesome location for visiting the Cuyuna Trails but everything about it is tired looking. This park should be updated and reconfigured. This area is incredibly popular and there is a shortage of camping areas. Despite the tiredness the location is hard to beat. There are mountain bike and pave trails right next to the campground.

Peace and quiet mid-week! Nice to find a simple campground where the water is so clear for Scuba Diving. Many others come for the mountain bike trails, there's so much to do like fishing and kayaking, hiking, or just relax!
