Great views, close to trails, waterfalls, stairway down to lake but then a little bit of a climb. Primative campground but that's what we wanted. Outhouses were well stocked.
May 29, 2025 · Christy StephensGreat place for hiking! The river loop is easy to access and beautiful for beginners like me. Vault toilets were average. FYI- The check-in station was closed at 4pm on Thursday, so we couldn’t buy firewood when we arrived. I recommend a spot that backs up to the lake, the sunsets are breathtaking!
Oct 07, 2020 · Dylan ThomasOverall, a 4.5 star camping experience for us here. We came in mid-Aug and while there was a moderate amount of mosquitoes, we didn't see a single one of the dreaded UP black flies. The temps were in the 60s-70s almost every day and it only rained once. The campground is cramped in the middle spots, but we had one on the outer ring so plenty of space. There are 4 pit toilets total which the park rangers clean and stock daily, but they are having a hard time emptying them right now (our first 2 days the level of excrement was only a few feet from the toilet🤢 - the park rangers said the guy they hire to empty the pit toilets is unreliable). Plenty of clean well water available, tho you have to manually pump it. The UP is a beautiful place and I definitely recommend camping here and exploring one of the top state parks in the country ("The Porkies").
Aug 19, 2023 · Yoni NiknamOne of the prettiest state campgrounds to stay in. The bathrooms were kept clean, sites were nice and plenty of trees around. The view of Lake Superior is always a bonus, too. The rainstorm rainstorm made for a cool color change in the lake from the river running in to it.
May 26, 2024 · Nick PoshThis review is for Presque Isle Campground Memorial Weekend 2022. Tented at site P141--were warned about bears roaming recently upon check-in. The campground is nice, quiet with big sites and lots of trees (be aware of the generator allowed sites vs not). It is WAY NICER than the main campground, Union Bay, which is 45 minutes away. Spend the day walking the whole Presque Isle River and waterfalls, lots of freaking stairs but worth it. ***If the dirt looks like it rained overnight and it didn't, it's no-see-ums, so beware if you're prone to bug bites*** (Photos are of the site and the view from the site.)
