Introduction / Overview
For Massachusetts residents, the Berkshires represent the perfect blend of natural beauty and vibrant cultural life, but sometimes what we truly crave is a place to genuinely disconnect. Privacy Campground in Williamstown, MA, is precisely that sanctuary. Nestled against the stunning backdrop of Brodie Mountain in the picturesque Northern Berkshires, this unique destination has been a cherished retreat for families since its founding in 1973. It is proudly owned and operated by the Morin and Lillie families, who continue the tradition started by the original caretaker, Andre Rambaud, providing a heartfelt, family-oriented atmosphere.
Living up to its name, Privacy Campground is renowned for its secluded setting, offering a truly immersive forest experience where you can "every tone of green." Guests consistently rave about the sense of solitude, often noting that they feel completely alone apart from their own party—a rare and valuable commodity in today’s busy world. This is camping as it should be: peaceful, quiet, and deeply connected to nature.
Perhaps one of the most compelling facts about this site is its pioneering commitment to sustainability. Since 1994, Privacy Campground has been a leading green facility, operating largely off-grid and powered by renewable resources, including a hydroelectric power plant and a gravity water system. This dedication to environmental stewardship not only makes it a unique destination but also perfectly aligns with the values of many conscious Bay Staters looking for a responsible and rustic escape. Whether you are a seasoned camper looking for seclusion or a family seeking an adventure among the beautiful Berkshires, this campground offers a memorable and truly refreshing alternative to the typical crowded camping experience.
Location and Accessibility
Privacy Campground is located deep in the natural beauty of Western Massachusetts, yet it remains highly accessible from all corners of the state, making it a perfect weekend getaway for our local community. Situated on the slopes of Brodie Mountain, just south of the historic town of Williamstown, the campground is easily reached via Route 43.

This prime Berkshire location places you within a very short drive of a multitude of world-class attractions. To the east lies the majestic Mount Greylock State Reservation, the highest point in Massachusetts, offering endless hiking and scenic views. The sophisticated arts and culture of Williamstown, including the world-renowned Clark Art Institute and the Williams College Museum of Art, are just minutes away. Further south are cultural hubs like MASS MoCA in North Adams and the famous Tanglewood in Lenox. For those driving from Eastern or Central Massachusetts, the journey quickly transports you from urban bustle to serene mountain wilderness. While the site is deeply tucked into the woods, offering ultimate seclusion, note that many sites are accessed by gravel roads and hills, and the location's "privacy" also means that cell phone reception is non-existent to very limited, encouraging a true digital detox.

Conclusion: Why Privacy Campground is Suitable for Locals
For Massachusetts residents, the primary appeal of Privacy Campground is its ability to offer a complete "unplugged" experience without sacrificing convenience or cleanliness. We know the Berkshires for their dual nature—culture and wilderness—and this campground allows us to fully engage with the latter. It is easily reachable from Boston or Worcester for a weekend trip, yet once you arrive, you are instantly transported to a place of deep, unadulterated forest quiet.
The commitment of the Morin and Lillie families to maintaining this private, natural environment is a draw for locals who understand the value of a true, secluded escape. You don't have to worry about the noise and crowds of larger resorts; here, the focus is solely on nature, quiet reflection, and time spent with loved ones. Furthermore, the ability to completely disconnect—due to the famously limited cell reception—forces a much-needed break from the digital world. The fact that you can spend your day hiking on mountain trails or boating on a secluded pond, and then take a short drive to enjoy a world-class art museum or a Tony Award-winning theatre performance, makes Privacy Campground the ultimate Massachusetts weekend destination. It’s a place to recharge your batteries, not your phone.

This could be the best campground I have ever been. It is right in the middle of the forest. Unfortunately I was not really able to enjoy because I checked in late at night and checked out early in the morning. It is great possibility that you can every tone of green. Only thing is there is no reception, camp numbers are not very clear at night.
Sep 01, 2025 · Hasan Can ÇaprazThis place is beautiful. It is definitely a privacy campground, besides the people I came with I only seen two people. There's a little lake here and they have two little boats you can get on. I will definitely be back. You just have to come for yourself to experience this place!
Jul 11, 2025 · Treasure ScottReally beautiful, well maintained area. Plenty of space between campsites so we really had the privacy and peace we wanted. Pete the owner was wicked friendly. Can’t wait to get back!
Jul 25, 2025 · Corinne Hartenstein-GardynaHad a great experience camping here and would highly recommend Privacy Campground. The tent site was a good size with a nice table and fire pit. I used a 12’x12’ tent that may be the max size for the site. They have a bunch of great amenities to keep you entertained. Just a heads up, there is no service at the campground and the hiking trails are a bit overgrown with minimal signage, so bring a good map. We had a great time and hope to return
Jul 30, 2025 · Travis CrosbyThis campground is beautiful! The land is well maintained, the bathrooms are clean, and the owners are great people. We enjoyed exploring the trails on the property. This place offers so much more then I was expecting. Truly a hidden gem and a great spot to connect with nature.
