Though the place was a little hard to find, and we were kind of worried when we arrived on a Friday afternoon to find the gate still locked despite our reservation, the owner and his sons turned our attitudes around pronto. We were EXTREMELY grateful for the fire-building skills of the owner, a former Eagle Scout; while he was helping us build our fire on our first night, he told us that he brings his three young sons with him up from the big city every year, to spend their summers running around in the woods and playing on the lake, which sounds like the best possible way a boy could ever spend a summer. Because his sons spend so much time at the campground, the whole establishment is very kid-friendly, and all of our neighbors were extremely considerate and nice (except for some rowdy frat boys next door). I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a relaxing weekend of camping and canoeing within driving distance of Lake Michigan.
Aug 04, 2014 · Dave WurtsmithWe went about a month ago and LOVED it! First of all, the owner was very friendly and attentive to our requests. Our campsite was perfect because there was good distance between ours and the next site. We rented a canoe and paddled around the lake, and mostly hung out and relaxed on our campsite. Very relaxing. We'll be back soon!
Jul 24, 2012 · Erin WawokI struggle between 1 and 2 stars here ... I wouldn't say I hated it, but it certainly was not ideal. I agree with the previous reviewer, the grounds have _GREAT_ potential; this property is in dire, DIRE need of TLC and just general maintenance and upkeep. We stayed in a cabin (The Pine)... which was also in need of a deep cleaning and a fresh coat of paint on the inside. During our 2 night stay, we shared the living space with a bird chirping inside the wall, a mouse, and a couple of roaches. The bathrooms were very dirty and we used the showers once. The "bath house" is listed on the website as "modern". ... I think that means there is running water, and the water was warm, but that was the end of "modern". I will l say this, the owner was very nice and very cordial... but even he described the bathrooms as "rustic" (much more accurate). The microwave provided as part of our rental had to be unplugged after each use because the "1" key would be perpetually activated and "beep" continuously. There was lake access, but it was heavily overgrown/brushy along the long dock and there was about 25-yards of Lily Pads to reach open water. I wouldn't say we had high expectations... we knew we were going to be in a cabin with electric only, and we had considered coming up and camping in a tent; we opted to go with the cabin when we saw that there was only a small price difference. Unfortunately, the facilities were ill-suited to the expectations when everyone in the campground relies on one, small, rustic bath house.
Jul 28, 2015 · John GThe campgrounds are amazing. We had an event with a few hundred friends getting together. They were very accommodating to all the events and parking was not an issue. Highly recommend this location to friends due to it's quiet atmosphere, but especially because it is only a short drive from home.
Aug 19, 2013 · Andrew Buck MichaelExcellent campgrounds! I was here for a large group event in August 2013 and thought the campground was not only laid out excellently, but in an awesome location as well. The area is large, scenic, and very easy to navigate in the dark! Couldn't have been happier and can't wait to visit again.
