There is lots of privacy, they are really laid back with dogs, and you can buy wood right from the campground. The bathrooms are also so clean and water is nice and warm in the showers." This review speaks volumes about the quality of the experience you can expect: clean facilities, ample privacy, and a remarkably dog-friendly policy, making it an ideal choice for families and pet owners alike.
Despite its popularity, the campground maintains a quiet ambiance, a testament to its design and management. Another review noted it as a "Beautiful and quiet Campground. Not many spaces. We were lucky." This suggests a more intimate setting, allowing for a more personal connection with nature. Whether you’re planning a rigorous hiking trip along the North Shore or simply looking for a peaceful spot to relax under the Minnesota sky, Saginaw Campground offers a reliable and refreshing experience for all local outdoor enthusiasts.
Saginaw Campground is strategically located at 6988 US-2, Saginaw, MN 55779, USA. This positioning along US-2 makes it exceptionally accessible for travelers coming from various parts of Minnesota, particularly those venturing north. For Minnesotans coming from the Duluth area, the campground is a straightforward drive. From Duluth, one can head south on I-35, take exit 250 for US-2 toward Proctor/Grand Rapids, and continue for approximately 13 miles until the campground appears on the left. The location in Saginaw offers a perfect blend of peaceful seclusion and proximity to key attractions in northern Minnesota. While the campground itself provides a quiet retreat, it serves as an excellent jumping-off point for exploring the wider region. Its convenience to US-2 means easy access to the renowned North Shore of Lake Superior, a prime destination for hiking, sightseeing, and enjoying the magnificent coastal landscapes that are a hallmark of Minnesota.
Furthermore, being in Saginaw places campers within reach of various state parks, forests, and recreational trails that define the beauty of northeastern Minnesota. This accessibility makes it ideal for locals who want to maximize their time enjoying outdoor activities, whether it’s a day trip to a waterfall, a scenic drive, or an extended hiking adventure. The combination of easy road access and proximity to natural wonders enhances Saginaw Campground's appeal as a practical and desirable camping destination for Minnesotans.
Saginaw Campground is praised for its well-maintained facilities and thoughtful services that enhance the overall camping experience. While it offers a rustic feel, it does not compromise on essential comforts.
Clean Restrooms: Campers consistently highlight the exceptional cleanliness of the restroom facilities, which is a major comfort for all visitors, especially those in tents or smaller RVs without their own bathrooms.
Warm Showers: The availability of clean, warm showers is a significant amenity, particularly after a day of hiking or outdoor activities. This ensures campers can refresh and relax comfortably.
Firewood Sales On-Site: For the quintessential camping experience, firewood is readily available for purchase directly from the campground. This convenience saves campers the hassle of finding wood elsewhere and ensures compliance with local regulations regarding firewood transport.
Dog-Friendly Policy: The campground is notably "laid back with dogs," making it a welcoming place for pet owners. While specific rules regarding leash length or waste disposal are likely in place, the general friendly approach to canine companions is a big plus. (Note: According to their website, specific dog policies apply regarding size and number per site, so checking directly is advised for details).
Water Access: While not explicitly detailed, standard campgrounds like Saginaw typically provide access to potable water for drinking and washing.
Trash Disposal: Facilities for proper waste disposal are generally available to help campers keep their sites clean and adhere to Leave No Trace principles.
Saginaw Campground offers several features and highlights that contribute to its reputation as a top choice for Minnesota campers:
Privacy at Campsites: A recurring theme in reviews is the ample privacy provided by the campsites. This suggests well-spaced sites, often with natural vegetation providing separation, allowing campers to enjoy their space without feeling crowded.
Quiet Atmosphere: Despite being a popular choice, the campground is noted for its quiet and peaceful ambiance. This is ideal for those seeking a tranquil escape from urban noise and a chance to truly relax in nature.
Proximity to North Shore Hiking: Its location makes it an excellent base for exploring the famous North Shore of Lake Superior, renowned for its extensive hiking trails, waterfalls, and scenic vistas. This appeals directly to hikers and outdoor adventurers.
Well-Maintained Facilities: The consistently positive comments about the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the warmth of the showers indicate a high standard of maintenance and care from the campground management.
Limited Number of Spaces: While not explicitly stated how many, the review "Not many spaces" suggests it’s a smaller, more intimate campground. This contributes to the quiet atmosphere and enhances the sense of a hidden gem, where getting a spot might require a bit of luck or early planning.
Ease of Access via US-2: Its direct location on a major highway makes it straightforward to reach, reducing travel stress and maximizing time spent enjoying the destination.
Scenic Northern Minnesota Setting: The campground is situated in a naturally beautiful area, offering a true taste of Minnesota's forested landscapes and proximity to its iconic lakes and rivers.
While specific, frequently changing promotions are best confirmed directly with Saginaw Campground, campgrounds in northern Minnesota often offer standard seasonal considerations and potential deals that are worth inquiring about.
Given that the campground is a popular choice, especially for those heading to the North Shore, early booking, particularly for peak season weekends (such as summer holidays and fall color season), could be seen as a de facto "special offer" of securing a coveted spot. As noted, there are "Not many spaces," so ensuring your reservation in advance is a practical way to guarantee your stay.
Common promotions at similar Minnesota campgrounds can include:
Mid-Week Discounts: Some campgrounds offer reduced rates for stays during the week (Monday-Thursday) when demand is typically lower.
Longer Stay Discounts: Savings may be available for booking multiple nights, such as "stay 3 nights, get the 4th free" or weekly rates that are more economical than daily rates.
Off-Peak Season Rates: If Saginaw Campground operates during shoulder seasons (late spring or early fall), they might offer lower rates compared to the prime summer months, allowing campers to enjoy the beauty of Minnesota with fewer crowds and potentially better prices.
Military or First Responder Discounts: Many local businesses and campgrounds in Minnesota offer a percentage discount as a thank you to active military personnel and first responders.
It is highly recommended for prospective campers to contact Saginaw Campground directly via phone or visit their website if available to inquire about any current promotions, seasonal rates, or special packages they might be offering. This direct communication will ensure you receive the most accurate and up-to-date information.

One of our favorite places to camp when we go up to hike the north shore. There is lots of privacy, they are really laid back with dogs, and you can buy wood right from the campground. The bathrooms are also so clean and water is nice and warm in the showers.
Beautiful and quiet Campground. Not many spaces. We were lucky.
Wonderful campground that is well maintained. Lots of space, great green areas for walking your dog. I'm not sure of the other negative reviews about the noise, we thought it was fairly quiet. We loved our stay. And the WiFi was the best we've had and we have traveled all over the U.S. and Canada.
Friendly staff members and spacious campsites. BE AWARE that this campground is right next to a train track. Not a problem if you can tune out the sounds though. Bathrooms are clean with minor decorations. Legit.
Highly recommend this campground! Spacious camp sites, SUPER friendly host (brought firewood straight to our campsite,) they have a laundry room as well that I heard was spacious and nice- but did not use it personally as I only stayed overnight, VERY nice bathrooms with cute decor and GREAT showers, only 15-20 minutes from Duluth and everyone staying was very kept to themselves and quiet! DO BEWARE- there is a train that will go by once in a while and can be quite loud at night, but if you’re not bothered by that- there’s no issue! Also, from personal experience- Tent Campsite #6 seemed to have concrete underground- making it impossible to fully stake our tent into the ground, but we managed to secure our tent in another way! Will DEFINITELY be staying again!
