Sandy River Camping is exceptionally well-suited for local Mainers who are seeking a camping experience that is both high-quality and distinctly unique. It strikes a perfect balance between rustic seclusion and essential comfort. Mainers value authenticity, and this campground delivers, operating on a real, working farm where the owners are actively involved and genuinely welcoming. The desire for "tranquility, peace, and quiet" over "commercial campgrounds" is a sentiment often expressed by locals, and this campground caters directly to that need.
The availability of a brand-new, clean bathhouse with hot showers addresses a common pain point of rustic camping, ensuring a relaxing end to a day spent exploring the river or the Western Maine Mountains. Furthermore, the chance to interact with the adorable alpacas and purchase local alpaca products and seasonal produce from the farm store offers an enriching cultural and economic exchange, allowing locals to support a fellow small Maine business directly. This is a place where every family member, from the youngest playing on the playground to the adults relaxing by the river, can find joy. It's a short, convenient drive from key population centers, maximizing your time off and minimizing travel fatigue. For a peaceful, fun, and memorable escape that feels like a true local discovery, Sandy River Camping is the ideal choice for any Maine resident looking to reconnect with the natural beauty and friendly spirit of our state.

The owners, Marie and Kendall, are very welcoming and helpful. My grandson and I aprreciated the interesting tour Kendall gave us. He and Marie clearly put much thought, creativity, and love into their work on this very special place. My tentsite overlooking the Sandy River was magical. I did not get a chance to swim in the enticing water, but I fully intend to return and jump in. Great playground for youngsters, all around beautiful setting, and something for everyone. I was there just one night and I miss it!

Jul 03, 2025 · Sandra Lillian JonesGreat place! Very quiet and peaceful. Updated, clean shower house and bathrooms. We stayed at the Crimson King site and had plenty of room for 3 tents.
Aug 18, 2025 · Steven Cook5 stars place! Absolutely phenomenal place to stay. So thankful for the opportunity to getaway to the cottage. The cottage has all the necessary items. Plus there are amazing views and great beaches to enjoy the Sandy river. The owners hospitality outstanding. Plus, the alpacas add to the experience and are absolutely adorable. The Sandy river offers great fishing and a short walk from the cabin to cast off the banks. There is a community room with lots of options of games and books to choose from to enjoy. Plus a ping pong table! Definitely a true gem.
Sep 29, 2024 · V CAbsolutely phenomenplace to stay. Sites are a good size. The platforms for the tents are nice. You have solid flat surface don't have to worry about any rocks or sticks or roots poking you. We stayed at the chiller campsite from Monday to Saturday. Amazing view overlooking the river. My kids loved to go down swimming in the river. Although, the water was a bit lower for the time we were there still enough to have fun. Went fishing plenty of small mouth to be had. My daughter loved riding her bike all around the campground and exploring. Both of my kids liked watching the alpaca's.
