Introduction / Overview
For local Maine residents and those looking to experience the iconic rugged beauty of the Mid-Coast, Sea Swell Megunticook Campground in Rockport offers a uniquely situated camping resort experience. Nestled on fourteen wooded acres, this destination seamlessly blends the tranquility of a forested retreat with the breathtaking spectacle of the Atlantic Ocean. Known formerly as Megunticook Campground By The Sea, this location has long been celebrated for providing one of the most picturesque settings in the region.
What sets Sea Swell Megunticook apart is its coveted oceanfront property. While the campsites themselves are tucked into the woods, the campground features dedicated shorefront access and a stunning terraced overlook of the water. From this vantage point, guests can enjoy panoramic views of scenic Penobscot Bay, watching windjammers sail past, spotting playful porpoises, and gazing upon local landmarks like Indian Island Lighthouse and the distant North & South Haven islands. This truly Maine experience is a major draw, offering unmatched photo opportunities and moments of peaceful reflection.
The campground is thoughtfully designed to cater to a variety of visitors, from those in the largest RVs to traditional tent campers and those seeking the comfort of a cabin or cottage rental. The focus here is on providing a clean, friendly, and amenity-rich environment that serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring the vibrant local towns of Camden and Rockland, which are just minutes away. Location and Accessibility
Sea Swell Megunticook is ideally situated at 620 Commercial St, Rockport, ME 04856, USA. This is a highly desirable address in Knox County, placing the campground right in the heart of Mid-Coast Maine’s most celebrated stretch of coastline. The location on Commercial Street provides straightforward access from US Route 1, the major artery connecting the coastal towns, making it simple for local Mainers to arrive.
A key advantage of this location is its proximity to two of Maine’s most charming and popular towns. The campground is just a quick five-minute drive south of Camden Harbor and only a short distance from downtown Rockland. This accessibility means guests are never far from convenience and entertainment. Rockland offers extensive services, from grocery stores to museums and the famous North Atlantic Blues and Lobster Festivals. Camden provides boutique shopping, excellent dining, and opportunities for schooner rides and exploring the scenic harbor.
The area surrounding the campground is rich with local flavor. Guests can easily visit nearby fisheries to pick up fresh lobster—a quintessential Maine experience—or drive scenic bike routes. While the property is located off the main road, the densely wooded sites, particularly those away from the immediate entrance, contribute to a quiet atmosphere despite the convenience of the location. The overall setting offers a perfect balance: easy access to everything Mid-Coast Maine has to offer, paired with a peaceful, natural environment by the sea.

Given the popularity of this highly-rated coastal location, reservations are strongly recommended, especially during the peak summer season and over holiday weekends or festival dates (like the Blues and Lobster Festivals) which often require a three-night minimum stay. Interested parties should call the number provided to discuss specific site needs, especially concerning larger RVs, as some of the more wooded, terraced sites can be tight for bigger rigs.

For locals, it represents a high-quality, amenity-rich 'staycation' spot that remains within easy driving distance of home, allowing for short weekend trips or extended seasonal stays.

Whether a family is looking for a place for the children to enjoy the heated pool and playground, or a couple seeks a scenic spot for a quiet autumn retreat in a cozy cabin or cottage, Sea Swell Megunticook delivers. Camped here for a week, great spot, clean camp ground, one great thing is that they pick up your trash daily. The views from the water front are stunning, to your left is Indian island light house, North & South Haven islands straight ahead. We were away from the road so pretty quite. Would definitely stay here again!
Sep 14, 2025 · Ken HThis camping site may be small, but it definitely has its perks! I loved the full bathrooms and private showers—such a nice touch! It's conveniently located near local towns with delicious food options. We even visited a nearby fishery and picked up some fresh lobster. I will say that camping on the ground isn't the best due to the location, and while the cabins are a bit pricey, they're really nice! Overall, I'm looking forward to staying with friends in the lower cabins, cooking together, and soaking in the beautiful views of the lake!
Jul 22, 2025 · Oscar AudonI’m genuinely shocked by the amount of good reviews this campground has… It is SO close to Rt 1 and all you can hear day and night is traffic. Our site is the furthest thing from level and they placed the fire pit just about in middle of the site so the options for adjusting your camper are slim to none. There’s someone working at the store/office until 5 each day and someone who picks up trash at 9 each day but other than that we never saw any staff checking on the campground. As a result of that, cars absolutely FLY around the roads. We saw multiple people doing 15+ mph through this tiny campground, kids and dogs everywhere. Major heads up on the disgusting showers. One was decent, but another one had a mold covered shower curtain that had clearly been like for a very long time and was ignored by staff. The only plus sides of this place is the gorgeous ocean view and sitting area at the end, and the pool was decent as well. Maybe some people don’t mind the traffic but it is certainly all but relaxing when camping and the people speeding through the campground was a huge negative for us and we would never return.
Aug 09, 2025 · C RSolid 4.5... We loved our stay here. The ocean view is awesome and the onshore breeze kept us cool during a heatwave. The site lengths were a tad short but worked. Staff was pleasant and helpful. You pay for internet here. Our T-mobile cell signal was 4G and decent. Everyone adhered to the lights out quiet time which was wonderful. This is a nice quiet getaway that's close to Camden for shopping and site seeing. We'll be back for sure.
Aug 11, 2025 · Joe Don BakerSea Swell Megunticook Camp Ground is the perfect location for an easy going camping experience. This location has a swimming pool, showers and toilets, and a laundry room, so you’re not entirely off grid. With a “dining area” over-looking the ocean, you couldn’t ask for a better coastal Maine camping experience. I’ve been here a few times, and plan to come quite a few more!
