Son's Island is located at 110 Lee St, Seguin, TX 78155, USA. This address places it directly on the banks of the Guadalupe River, a beloved natural resource in Central Texas renowned for its scenic beauty, recreational opportunities, and cool waters perfect for tubing, kayaking, and fishing. Seguin, a historic and growing city, offers a charming backdrop, blending small-town Texas appeal with increasing amenities. The park's location provides excellent accessibility. It is conveniently situated off major roadways, allowing relatively easy access from larger metropolitan areas such as San Antonio (approximately 40 minutes away) and Austin (roughly an hour's drive). This makes Son's Island an attractive option for urban dwellers seeking a quick escape to nature without a lengthy journey. Within Seguin, visitors have access to local dining, shopping, and historical sites, providing opportunities to explore beyond the island itself. The unique aspect of being an "island" accessible by a bridge adds to its distinct charm, providing a sense of exclusivity and seclusion while remaining connected to the mainland. This prime location on the Guadalupe River ensures that guests have direct access to one of Texas's most popular river recreation spots.
Son's Island aims to provide a unique "island" experience on the Guadalupe River, with a focus on day-use and glamping accommodations. Based on available public information and customer reviews, here are the key services and amenities offered:
- Day-Use Cabana Rentals: A primary offering of Son's Island is the rental of private cabanas for daytime use. These cabanas typically come with seating, a picnic table, and often hammocks or other relaxation amenities, providing a shaded and comfortable base for groups along the river.
- Overnight Bell Tent Rentals: For those seeking an overnight glamping experience, Son's Island offers Bell Tents. These tents are intended to provide a more luxurious camping experience, often equipped with beds and air conditioning.
- River Access and Activities: Guests have direct access to the Guadalupe River. While the water depth can vary (and has been noted as shallow in some areas), it allows for river activities such as swimming and wading.
- Restrooms: Public restrooms are available on the island for guests' convenience.
- Staff Assistance: There are young staff members on-site to assist with guest inquiries and issues, particularly concerning tent access and AC problems.
- Security: Bell Tents are equipped with locks, and combination numbers are provided for access, aiming to enhance security for overnight guests.
Based on customer reviews, the features and highlights of Son's Island present a mixed, yet informative, picture. It's crucial for prospective visitors to consider both positive and negative feedback to form a balanced view:
- Unique Island Setting: The fundamental highlight is the unique concept of a private island on the Guadalupe River. This offers a distinctive and appealing backdrop for relaxation and events, setting it apart from typical riverfront venues.
- Breathtaking Views and Serene Atmosphere (Positive Experience): One highly positive review highlights "breathtaking views of nature and a calm, serene atmosphere." It describes the island as "beautifully maintained, with lush greenery, clear waters, and plenty of quiet spots to unwind," suggesting that for some, it delivers a genuinely peaceful escape.
- Private Cabanas for Day Use: The availability of private cabanas provides a dedicated, shaded, and comfortable space for groups to gather and enjoy the river during the day.
- Glamping Opportunity: The Bell Tents offer a step up from traditional camping, appealing to those who desire outdoor immersion with more creature comforts like beds and air conditioning.
- Staff Responsiveness (Initial): Some young staff members were noted as being "very nice" and initially responsive to issues like incorrect lock combinations or malfunctioning AC units, indicating an effort to address immediate problems on-site.
- Issue with Manager Follow-up (Negative Experience): A significant concern highlighted is the reported lack of follow-up from management regarding unresolved issues after a trip, despite multiple attempts to contact them. This suggests a potential gap in post-stay customer service.
- Bell Tent Quality and Maintenance Issues (Negative Experience): Multiple severe issues were reported with the Bell Tents, including:
- Incorrect lock combinations causing significant delays and frustration upon arrival.
- Malfunctioning AC units, with some blowing hot air or leaking water near electrical outlets, posing safety hazards.
- Tripping breakers and burnt extension cords indicating electrical problems.
- A tent with a "moldy smell" and a "bloodstain on the sheet," rendering it uninhabitable and causing guests to seek alternative sleeping arrangements (even their car).
- Shallow and Murky River Water (Negative Experience): The river portion accessible from the ranch was described as "super shallow and the width of the river is very narrow," leading to "super murky and muddy" water when many people are present. This contrasts with expectations of clear, refreshing river water.

Direct communication will help set appropriate expectations and ensure a smoother experience.
In conclusion, Son's Island offers a truly unique concept for locals in the Texas region seeking an island-style retreat on the Guadalupe River. Its prime location in Seguin, with convenient access from major Texas cities, positions it as an appealing destination for day trips and glamping adventures. The appeal of private cabanas and the novelty of Bell Tent accommodations provide a distinct alternative to traditional camping. For those who prioritize a unique setting and direct river access, Son's Island could be an interesting option. However, it is paramount for prospective visitors to approach their decision with full awareness of the highly mixed past customer experiences. While some find it "relaxing and peaceful" with "breathtaking views," others have reported significant issues with accommodation quality, safety hazards, and post-visit management follow-up. Therefore, while the concept is undoubtedly attractive, thorough due diligence, direct communication with management to address specific concerns, and perhaps a lower initial financial commitment might be prudent steps for Texans considering Son's Island for their next outdoor adventure.
Customer Reviews
Our first time to Son’s River Ranch and it would be our last. We rented 3 cabanas to use during the daytime and 1 cabana to use at night time. We also rented 6 Bell Tents to stay over night and we spent close to $1500 for this trip. All the tents supposed to have working ACs with clean beds or so we thought!! Boy oh boy… So before I lay out the issues, I have to say the young staffers there that day along with the girls working behind the phone were very nice. However, they said that the MANAGER would call me back regarding my issues and the manager was never in after 1 week of waiting with me calling them twice for a follow up, after our trip there. Still no phone call from the manager so my patience is over. So what were the problems? 1) The tents have locks on them so they texted me 6 combination numbers for the locks and all of them were completely wrong. Now try to go from one tent to the next, then repeat the process to double check your work to make sure if you did it right or it’s because of some other issues as to why the locks won’t open, in 97 degrees heat at 4pm in the afternoon. The staff then came out to see what the issue was and he agreed that the combination numbers weren’t correct. 2) I then found out 1 AC was blowing only hot air, I had to call them back and they came out and replaced it with a working AC. 3) then 2 tents had water leaking from the AC unit and the water was all over the electrical outlets that were laying on the ground. That was a hazard and we have young children in our group so can you imagine them stepping into the puddle of water with live current running through it? 4) Bell Tent #8 Breaker kept tripping and my brother in law had to swap their BURNT extension cord with his own extension cord to prevent the breaker from tripping every 30 mins. Him and his wife couldn’t sleep and they had to wake up at 3am to see what was going on with the AC. 5) Bell tent #3 had this moldy smell and the family that was supposed to stay in there found what appears to be bloodstain on the sheet. We asked to move to another tent or to upgrade it to a cabin (that we were willing to pay extra) but they didn’t have any available. So that tent was completely inhabitable for the night so my wife and I ended up giving our tent up to that one family for them to stay. We stayed in our car with our doors open through out the night. Oh not to mention the wife of that family threw up because of how bad the smell in that tent was. So yea stay away tent #3. 6) This part of the river on this ranch is super shallow and the width of the river is very narrow. Now, imagine the water level is up to your knee and then add about 100 people to this equation, how clear do you think the water is now? Yeap super murky and muddy. Again, we’ll never stay here again and would never recommend this place to anyone! Stay away from this place. At this point we don’t even care of the refund. We’ll just dispute with our credit card company.
I had the most relaxing and peaceful day at Son's Island, and I can't recommend it enough! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with breathtaking views of nature and a calm, serene atmosphere. The island is beautifully maintained, with lush greenery, clear waters, and plenty of quiet spots to unwind.
This place is an absolute unexpected treasure, very fun for kids and adults. Son's Island was super relaxing and did not break the bank. There are lots of activities and the atmosphere is wonderful. The manager, Dan is very helpful, knowledgable and buff. The other staff was nice as well. We will absolutely be back!
Got there early had to wait in line for just a little bit not to bad, they are very organized make sure you have your waiver ready to go to make sure and get in faster. Overall the place was very nice and clean. The biggest downside that we experienced was that there is no shallow beach type entrance to the water we have little kids and didn't realize that's how it would be. Water was pretty murky but very warm and comfortable which was really nice. All of the areas have plenty of shade and having power and water at the cabanas was really helpful. The BBQ pits were clean and just the right size. So close to a 5 star but honestly just wasn't what we were expecting definitely a place to check out once! Also the staff were awesome very friendly and helpful not sure what was up with all the reviews knocking the staff because they were great!
Went this weekend and it never disappoints. The views are breathtaking, there is plenty to do on the island, and the cabanas are perfectly spaced. We had space A11 with a large floating pad in case anyone just wanted to lounge. Each cabana had its own pit, a hammock, and electrical sockets to charge phones or accessories. There is plenty of seating and table space available. This is a very relaxing and fun place to visit. It is becoming a yearly family trip.
