For Minnesota RV owners and travelers seeking a true Northwoods basecamp without sacrificing convenience, The Lakeview Resort in Ranier, MN, is a treasured local secret. Nestled right on the picturesque shore of Rainy Lake, this charming destination provides an intimate, cozy atmosphere that is a world away from the crowded, commercial mega-parks. It’s less of a large campground and more of a boutique resort experience perfectly tailored for those looking to explore the pristine waters and wilderness of Voyageurs National Park.
What makes The Lakeview Resort truly stand out for local users is its size and intentional design. Customer reviews rave about its "small quaint RV campground" feel, which consciously avoids being "packed full of mega rigs." It’s a genuine gem, offering a limited number of full-hookup sites that can accommodate everything from small campers to larger 40-foot Class A motor homes, a remarkable feat for a location this intimate. Guests immediately feel welcomed by the dedicated owners, described by one visitor as "the best host you could possibly ask for," who cultivate a simple yet great small RV campground environment.
The appeal is not just in the well-maintained sites, but in the unique setting that truly embraces the Northern Minnesota experience. Imagine sitting on the docks, watching the float planes come and go across the lake, or settling in for a spectacular show of the Northern Lights. The natural beauty is always front and center, yet the convenience of being able to take a short walk to grab a craft beverage at a nearby brewery or distillery adds a layer of modern enjoyment to the rustic retreat. The Lakeview Resort is truly the ideal staging point for any Minnesota family looking to embark on a quintessential Northern vacation.

Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals
The Lakeview Resort is tailor-made for the seasoned Minnesota RV traveler who knows the value of a high-quality, non-commercial experience. It perfectly encapsulates the "Up North" ethos: world-class nature blended with genuine, friendly hospitality. For locals, this is the ideal home base for tapping into the rich recreational opportunities of the border lakes region. You get all the necessities of a full-hookup RV site—including the ability to fit a 40-foot rig—while avoiding the impersonal feel of larger, more transient parks.
What truly sets it apart for Minnesota residents is the unparalleled combination of wilderness immersion and village convenience. You have direct, immediate access to Rainy Lake and the wonders of Voyageurs National Park, allowing for fishing, boating, and wildlife exploration right outside your door. Yet, unlike deep wilderness campgrounds, a short walk provides access to local dining and entertainment, bridging the gap between a remote getaway and a fun, convenient vacation. The strong sense of community, fostered by dedicated owners and a small guest list, means visitors aren't just camping; they're becoming part of a temporary Northern Minnesota family. It is a peaceful, beautiful, and highly recommended "gem" that offers everything a local needs for an unforgettable RV vacation.

Cozy and charming. Not packed full of mega rigs. No traffic and great area to sit and watch the Northern Lights, the coming and goings of the float planes across the lake, or sit on the docks and pass the time.
Sep 20, 2025 · Robert HuntWe stayed here for 3 night in or RV to tour Voyageurs National Park. This is a small quaint RV campground that only can accommodate 4 full size class A motor homes and 2 small campers but it is truly a gem! Our three 40’ RVs fit with no problems. Three sites are 50 amp FHU and the others are 30 amp FHU. WiFi was very good. Phone reception with ATT or Verizon was fair. The owners Mandy and Rick were the best host you could possibly ask for. It’s just a simple but great small RV campground. They also had a few cabins on the waters edge. They have docks for boats and common grounds on the water for guest to enjoy. Sunsets were beautiful. We would absolutely stay here again. It’s just a short walk to a Brewery tavern, ice cream shop and a distillery and a short drive into town.
Jun 19, 2024 · tim tregreThis was a great find! Only wish we were able to stay longer! Lovely location on the water and walking distance to town. Community waterfront and nearby public beach. One night Rick and Mandy hosted a bonfire with s'mores in honor of the previous owner. Easy access to the National Park amenities. Rick and Mandy are full of helpful information too. Such a special place. If we are ever back in the area, we will make sure we have a longer stay here.
Nov 14, 2023 · Susan SchwadererMandy and Rick provided a fantastic place and experience for my partner and I while we were in town for a few days. It was cold, and I had forgot our heater; they were happy to lend one to us. My partner was working night shift, so she slept into the afternoon. I noticed that Rick saved yard work until after she was up so as not to disturb her: an unrequested but incredibly courteous thing for him to do. The location is idyllic and made us feel lucky to be there. I'd enthusiastically return. I felt very comfortable and glad to be staying at The Lakeview RV Sites and Cabins, and would happily recommend them.
Apr 29, 2021 · Alex FaberLove this place! Came for a quick stop and stayed a week... great access to water and a country, make yourself at home attitude from the owner who has a true heart for hospitality. Cabins look cute, especially #6 which is above the boathouse. We stayed in one of the five RV spots which was nice and big. Close to a quant little town and across the River from International Falls.
