For us Wisconsinites, the joy of camping often lies in finding those unpretentious, well-kept spots that offer a peaceful retreat without costing a fortune. We appreciate a campground that feels genuine, a place where the focus is on the simple pleasures of the outdoors. If you're traveling through or exploring the stunning bluffs and valleys of the Mississippi River region, then Sugar Creek Park Campground in Ferryville, Wisconsin, is a charming little park that might be just what you're looking for.
Sugar Creek Park Campground is described as a "beautiful little park" that offers a basic yet comfortable camping experience. It's a municipal park, managed by the Village of Ferryville, which often translates to affordable rates and a focus on community amenities. While it might not boast all the bells and whistles of a large commercial resort, it provides essential services, a well-maintained environment, and a tranquil setting that has garnered positive feedback from visitors.
Imagine finding a clean, grassy spot under the open sky, with the convenience of water and electricity for your RV or tent. This campground offers a no-frills approach to camping that appeals to those who value simplicity and a quiet atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can unwind after a day of exploring, enjoy a campfire under the stars, and feel refreshed by the natural surroundings, making it an excellent stopover or a peaceful destination for a few nights.
Sugar Creek Park Campground is located on the outskirts of Ferryville, WI 54628, USA. More specifically, the park and campground are situated on Highway 35, near the south end of the Village of Ferryville, nestled along Sugar Creek and conveniently adjacent to the railroad tracks. This location places it squarely within Wisconsin's beautiful Great River Road region, offering stunning views of the Mississippi River bluffs and easy access to the river itself, though the campground itself doesn't offer direct river views from all sites.
Ferryville is a charming, small village in Crawford County, known for its strong connection to the Mississippi River, offering excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, and enjoying scenic overlooks. The campground’s location on Highway 35 (also known as the Wisconsin Great River Road) makes it incredibly accessible for travelers, whether you're coming from the north towards La Crosse or from the south towards Prairie du Chien. Its roadside convenience makes it an ideal stop for those on a longer journey or for locals looking for a quick and easy getaway.
Despite being close to the railroad tracks, many campers find the train noise to be manageable and not disruptive enough to awaken them, which is a testament to the overall peaceful atmosphere. The ease of access combined with its strategic position along a major scenic route in one of Wisconsin's most beautiful regions makes Sugar Creek Park Campground a practical and appealing choice for campers.
As a municipal campground operated by the Village of Ferryville, Sugar Creek Park Campground does not typically offer commercial-style "promotions" or "special offers." Its primary appeal and value proposition lie in its consistently affordable nightly rate. At just $10 per night (as of recent reviews in 2021 and 2022), it stands out as an exceptionally budget-friendly option for camping in Wisconsin, especially given the availability of water and electric hookups at many sites.
This low, unchanging fee effectively acts as its ongoing "special offer," making quality camping accessible to a wider range of Wisconsinites. The first-come, first-served policy also means there are no booking fees or advance reservation requirements, further simplifying the process and reducing costs. While you won't find seasonal discounts or loyalty programs, the inherent value of clean, maintained facilities with essential hookups at such a low price point is the park's biggest draw. For any updated information on fees or potential minor changes, the Village of Ferryville website or direct contact with the village office would be the best source, though the core value proposition is expected to remain consistent.

For us Wisconsinites, Sugar Creek Park Campground in Ferryville perfectly encapsulates the charm of a straightforward, affordable, and well-maintained camping experience, making it highly suitable for locals. We appreciate places that prioritize simplicity and natural beauty without excessive frills, and this park delivers. Its incredible nightly rate of just $10, especially with the availability of water and electric hookups, is a significant draw, allowing more of us to enjoy a spontaneous getaway without straining the budget.
The location is another key factor. Nestled on the outskirts of Ferryville along the scenic Highway 35, it offers easy access to the majestic Mississippi River and the unique landscapes of the Driftless Region. While you might not see the river directly from every site, the proximity means that fishing, boating, and enjoying the iconic bluff views are just moments away. This is the kind of authentic Wisconsin experience we seek, combining the tranquility of a park with the convenience of a charming small town.
Even with the railroad tracks nearby, the consensus among campers is that the train noise isn't disruptive, allowing for a peaceful night's rest. The "well-maintained" grounds, clean restrooms, and playground equipment for kids show that even without a dedicated camp host, the village takes pride in offering a pleasant environment. For a quick weekend escape, a budget-friendly stop on a longer road trip, or a simple family outing, Sugar Creek Park Campground provides all the essentials for a comfortable and enjoyable time, reflecting the practical and welcoming spirit of Wisconsin camping.
Beautiful little park. Can't see the Mississippi River. Biggest drawback was trains, track is next to park but wasn't awakened from train noise. Well maintained. Has water and electric, no RV dump. $10 nite as of June 2021. No camp host.
Jun 02, 2021 · Dawn SmackLocated on the outskirts of Ferryville, this campground offers approximately twelve sites. It features a pavilion and a decent selection of playground equipment for kids. Each site includes a fire ring, but none come with a picnic table. I'm not entirely certain, but it appears that none of the sites have electrical hookups. The trains pass by regularly and can be quite loud, although they are not particularly long. The grounds were well-maintained and clean. I would definitely consider returning. The fee is $10 per night for self-pay.

Sep 24, 2023 · Jill Dittmer$10 for the night; electricity; clean portapotty, water hydrant available. Pavilion with picnic tables. Thank you, city of Ferryville, for providing a city park/campground! I was riding the Great River Road on a bicycle, supported by my husband pulling a simple sleeper camper with a small pickup & our dog. We often have trouble finding a place to park for the night. This campground was perfect. While it would have been nice to have a shower (the cinderblock bathrooms--maybe showers?--were locked), the portapotty was adequate and the electricity was a bonus. I wish all towns provided a place for travelers to safely sleep overnight. Yes, the train track is close and trains can be heard during the night, but that's part of living close to the river. I am so appreciative of this service you provide. We had friendly help from Janette at the gas station when we arrived in town and had supper at the Wooden Nickel--great burgers.
