It's a testament to the care and dedication of the staff, who are described as "friendly and visible without being intrusive," striking the perfect balance between helpfulness and allowing campers to enjoy their privacy. US Army Corps of Engineers Blackhawk Park is conveniently located at E590 Blacktop Rd, De Soto, WI 54624, USA. This address places it just three miles north of the charming village of De Soto, Wisconsin, and approximately 30 miles south of the larger city of La Crosse. This strategic positioning offers campers the best of both worlds: the peace and quiet of a natural setting, coupled with relatively easy access to urban amenities when needed.
The park's location along the main channel of the mighty Mississippi River is a significant highlight. It's nestled within Pool 9 of the Mississippi, a segment known for its diverse ecosystems and abundant recreational opportunities. The presence of a forested bend right on the river provides not only stunning views but also direct access for various water-based activities, making it a dream spot for those who love the water.
Accessibility to Blackhawk Park is straightforward, primarily via Wisconsin State Highway 35, which is part of the scenic Great River Road. From De Soto, travelers can simply head north on Highway 35 and turn left onto County Road BI (Blacktop Rd). For those approaching from La Crosse, traveling south on Highway 35 and turning right onto County Road BI will lead them directly to the park entrance. This well-maintained road access makes the journey to the campground smooth for both cars and larger RVs.
The surrounding area is part of Wisconsin's unique Driftless Area, a region famously untouched by glaciers, resulting in a landscape of rolling hills, dramatic bluffs, and deep river valleys. This geological distinction contributes to the scenic beauty and varied topography that visitors can explore. The park is also surrounded by the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, ensuring a rich environment for wildlife viewing and a sense of being truly immersed in nature. Despite its natural setting, the accessibility to towns like De Soto and a relatively short drive to La Crosse means campers can easily resupply, enjoy local dining, or explore additional attractions without feeling too isolated.
US Army Corps of Engineers Blackhawk Park prides itself on offering a range of services designed to make camping comfortable and convenient for all visitors, whether they're in tents or large RVs. The emphasis on cleanliness and well-maintained facilities is a recurring theme in visitor feedback.
US Army Corps of Engineers Blackhawk Park is rich with features that make it a standout destination for outdoor recreation in Wisconsin. These highlights contribute to its popularity among both new and returning visitors.

However, it is an authorized vendor for the "America the Beautiful—the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass" series, which provides significant value and is a major "special offer" for frequent visitors to federal recreation sites across the country.

Been coming here for so long that I have a favorite site and will usually plan my visit around its availability. Perfect spot for fishing, hiking, boating, or just relaxing. I tent camp, but the whole place is also extremely well equipped for rvs and campers. Everything is clean and well maintained. Staff is friendly and visible without being intrusive. There's a great little general store on the property where you can get hot food, ice, firewood, snacks, bait, and some of the little things you may have forgotten to pack. It's wonderful having nice, hot showers that are cleaned daily.
May 17, 2025 · Kaylee FNeeded to get a National Parks “America The Beautiful” Annual Pass and didn’t want to risk not getting it by mail in time for an Upcoming trip. Drove from Oak Creek to De Soto to get one in person. Nice park and campground. If I was a camper, I would consider staying there.
May 13, 2024 · Todd SauveThis is a clean, well cared for campground. You can't beat COE parks for affordable camping. The park staff was very friendly and helpful also. The bathrooms were modern and clean. We loved it here! Note: there is high manganese levels in their water. There is a filter on one of the spigots but it would be best to arrive with plenty of your own drinking water.
Jul 23, 2022 · Gary & Kris SteinerBlackhawk Park was a nice park and Campground in the channels of the Mississippi River near De Soto Wisconsin. There is a great many number of campground sites to reserve. They have some nice playground areas, picnic areas, shelters, plenty of shoreline to do some fishing as well. The fishing you can experience here is excellent, with many species of fish available to fish for. Lots of diversity in their forest trees as well. Its a nice spot just a minute or two off the Great River road.
