Sundown RV Park About

For us Kansans who love the freedom of the open road in our RVs, finding a convenient and reliable place to stop for the night is often a key part of our travel plans. Whether you're crossing the state on a longer journey, heading out for a weekend getaway, or simply need a safe and easy spot to rest, the right RV park can make all the difference. Today, we're taking a closer look at a popular and pragmatic option for many travelers through the heartland: Sundown RV Park in Salina, Kansas.

Sundown RV Park is a no-frills, highly functional spot designed specifically for efficiency and ease of use, particularly for those needing a quick overnight stay. It's not a resort with extensive amenities, but it excels at providing exactly what many RVers need most: a level, clean, and secure spot with essential hookups right off a major interstate. As one reviewer aptly put it, it's "Five stars for what it is." While some travelers might prefer more extensive facilities, Sundown RV Park fills a crucial niche for simplicity and accessibility. Let’s dive into what makes this Salina RV park a noteworthy consideration for your next journey through Kansas.

Sundown RV Park is ideally located at 2089 N Hedville Rd, Salina, KS 67401, USA. This address places it directly adjacent to Interstate 70, making it an incredibly accessible and convenient stop for anyone traveling along this major east-west corridor through Kansas. For those crossing the state, or exploring the central Kansas region, its "right by I-70" location is a significant advantage.

The proximity to I-70 means easy entry and exit, minimizing detours and saving valuable travel time. This is especially beneficial for large RVs and those who prefer to keep their travel days efficient. Furthermore, the park's location in Salina, a prominent city in central Kansas, provides additional practical benefits. Salina offers a wide range of services, including numerous gas stations (with one "across the street" from the RV park, as noted by a reviewer), grocery stores, restaurants, and repair services if needed. While the park itself is designed for a quick stop, the surrounding area ensures that all necessary amenities are within easy reach. This strategic placement makes Sundown RV Park an excellent choice for a convenient and low-stress overnight stay while traversing our beautiful state.

Sundown RV Park focuses on providing essential services efficiently, catering specifically to RVers needing a quick and reliable stop. Based on customer feedback, here are the key services offered:

  • Electric Hookups: Sites are equipped with electrical connections to power your RV.
  • Water Hookups: Fresh water hookups are available at each site.
  • Dump Station: A convenient dumping station is provided for waste disposal.
  • Level Gravel Lots: The park consists of "level clean gravel lot" providing a stable surface for parking your RV.
  • Plenty of Space for Easy Entry/Exit: The layout is designed to allow for "easy entry/exit," particularly beneficial for larger rigs.

The features and highlights of Sundown RV Park are centered around its efficiency, strategic location, and practical design for transient RVers.

  • Simple, No-Frills Approach: The absence of amenities like bathrooms, showers, or a front desk means less overhead and often a simpler, more direct experience for self-sufficient RVers. This can also contribute to more competitive pricing.
  • Clean Gravel Lots: The emphasis on "clean gravel lot" ensures a tidy and functional parking area, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Ease of Maneuverability: The "plenty of space for easy entry/exit" is a significant benefit, especially for larger rigs and those less comfortable with tight parking situations.
  • Proximity to Fuel: The presence of a "Gas station across the street" is a highly convenient feature, allowing RVers to refuel easily before or after their stay.
  • Security Gate: One review mentions waiting on a gate to open, suggesting the presence of a security gate, which adds a layer of security to the park.

Regarding promotions or special offers, Sundown RV Park's model as a no-frills, overnight stop often implies a straightforward, competitive pricing structure. Specific promotions are not widely advertised for parks of this nature, as their appeal lies in their fundamental convenience and efficiency. However, it is always recommended to contact the park directly for the most current rates. Given its design for quick stays, its pricing is likely set to be attractive for those simply needing essential hookups for a night. Information about weekly or monthly rates would also be best obtained via direct inquiry, although the primary focus seems to be on transient use.

No bathrooms. No showers. No manicured grounds. No front desk. Just a level clean gravel lot with electric/water hookups and plenty of space for easy entry/exit. Dumping station also available. Great place to overnight right by I-70. Gas station across the street. Five stars for what it is.

You get what you pay for. That being said, it's ok for overnight but be careful when you drive in because it's up hill and if you have a bicycle rack or any other rack on the back of your camper, it will drag on the road. Also, if your camper is much more that 20', it will stick out in the road as you wait on the gate to open. Sites are not level. Would I stay here again? NO!

Stopped at this place while traveling from Colorado to NC. It was over 100f in Kansas and a simple night at a truck stop should have been miserable. I love that this place was completely digital. From booking to entry in the gate I didn't need to talk to anyone. The place was well kept and great for an overnight. If traveling through the area I would definitely book a night here again.

Excellent for an overnight stay and Wi-Fi was excellent too. My main reason for this review is the customer service. Phone call was promptly returned but, more importantly, we lost our keys in the lot. The owner/mgr searched the lot, found our keys and promptly mailed them to us without wanting us to reimburse him. That’s EXCELLENT service and something you don’t see much of these days!!! Thank you so much and we will definitely park here again!!!

I agree with another reviewer, this is just a parking lot with electric hook-ups. The audacity of calling the 15x15 square pit a 'dog park'. I didn't know whether to laugh or be angry. If you're traveling with a dog, it's not great for walks. The grass behind the gas station is your best bet. That said, it's good for what it is. It's quiet, clean, and I felt safe.
