Introduction / Overview

Surf City Family Campground epitomizes the quintessential laid-back beach camping experience. It's a place designed for those who want to be steps away from the ocean, where the natural beauty of the North Carolina coast is the main attraction. As one reviewer eloquently puts it, it’s "EXACTLY what we were looking for as a great overnight stop on our east coast roadtrip," emphasizing its "extremely reasonable rates" and "very friendly staff." This campground isn't about elaborate frills or resort-style amenities; it's about providing direct, unfettered access to a "gorgeous beach" at an excellent value.

The community here is often described as friendly and welcoming, attracting a mix of adults, families with children (though perhaps fewer than at some highly amenitized parks), and notably, many dogs, making it a truly pet-friendly destination. The emphasis is on a relaxed, authentic beach experience, fostering a sense of community among fellow beach lovers. It’s a place where the joy comes from the simple pleasures of coastal life: salty air, sandy toes, and the rhythm of the waves.

Location and Accessibility

Surf City Family Campground boasts an unbeatable location at 2460 Island Dr, North Topsail Beach, NC 28460, USA. This address places the campground quite literally "RIGHT ON A GORGEOUS BEACH." This is the first 5 star review I ever wrote where the facilities are a bit "rustic" (emphasis on rust), bad internet, close enough to hear your neighbors breath....but amazing location, next to the beach, nice people, family run, good price. I would live here if I could. We met people that come every year for 40 years. Highly recommended.

Top notch location. This is EXACTLY what we were looking for as a great overnight stop on our east coast roadtrip. Extremely reasonable rates, very friendly staff, and RIGHT ON A GORGEOUS BEACH 😍😍😍 bathrooms were plentiful and clean. Sites were normally spaced if not slightly closer to each other than normal but we just stopped mid week and there was a lot of empty space. Mostly adults but I did see one family tent camping with small children. Lots of dogs. There is a little store and ice available. Lots of food and drink options in the area. No pool or frills but you're right on the beach which is exactly what we were looking for. Thank you for a great stay, we look forward to returning in the future!!!

It's simple and rustic. If you're all about the beach, this is a must stay. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. They will even park your rig for you with their tractor if you have a hard time. The sites are tight but are full hookup. The beach is awesome here and it is literally a 100 yard walk! We will be back!

I haven't even spent a full night here and I already can't say enough good things about this urban tourist area campground. I travel by bicycle and got here on a holiday weekend (Easter). I was welcomed by folks on the porch of the office right away. When I came in the office there was a birthday party for a 94 year old woman going on. Such a festive, family atmosphere. I got a kind discount on a campsite for just my tent, bike and myself. I definitely prefer quiet, private stealth camping but I can't always stealth camp as a nomad. As far as public campgrounds in tourist areas go, this place is stellar! Friendly people all around me! I highly recommend this place to bicycle travelers like myself and I'm maybe thinking of staying another night tomorrow if they'll have me. I've been invited already to Easter Sunday services. I feel a small town sense of community here. I'm a small town farm girl, born and raised so this place fits with my spirit and my soul very well.

You can't see the ocean from the campground due to the dunes, but it is close enough to hear it and get the constant breeze! They are not all full hookups. They charge the same if you have sewer or not. If you don't, you can dump across the highway at the other location, BUT there is no water to flush with. It is just a sewer. Very friendly owners. The public bathroom stalls are not very tall. They should be taller than shoulder height.
