The positive feedback consistently highlights the welcoming atmosphere, with reviewers praising the "super people" who manage and host the camp. This personal touch, combined with well-thought-out amenities, makes it a compelling choice for families, couples, and individuals exploring the renowned Kentucky Lake area.
Whether you're an avid angler, a family looking for a safe and fun environment for children, or simply someone who appreciates a quiet, shaded spot to relax, Taft Creek Campground is quickly establishing itself as a premier camping destination in Western Kentucky. Its proximity to essential services and exciting local attractions further enhances its appeal, offering the best of both worlds: tranquil nature and convenient access.
Taft Creek Campground is ideally located at 108 Taft Rd, Gilbertsville, KY 42044, USA. This prime spot places it within the heart of Western Kentucky's renowned Lakes Region, making it incredibly accessible for residents across the state and neighboring areas. Gilbertsville is a well-known hub for outdoor recreation, primarily due to its close proximity to Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, two of the largest man-made lakes in the eastern United States.
The campground's specific address on Taft Road ensures a quiet setting away from major highway noise, yet it remains remarkably convenient. One of its most significant accessibility features is its mere half-mile distance from the Buckhorn Bay boat ramp, providing incredibly easy access for those looking to launch their boats onto Kentucky Lake for fishing, boating, or watersports. For campers coming with boats, this short commute to the water is a huge advantage.
Beyond the lakes, Taft Creek Campground benefits from its proximity to various local amenities. As noted in reviews, "Cedar Hill Market and Moors Resort are very close and have most anything you might need." This means that despite the serene atmosphere, campers are never far from grocery supplies, fishing bait, dining options, and other recreational opportunities that these nearby establishments offer. Major roads like US-62 and US-641 are within a short drive, connecting Gilbertsville to larger towns and cities. For instance, Paducah, a larger regional city with more extensive services and attractions, is roughly a 30-40 minute drive away, offering a convenient balance between secluded camping and urban access for Kentucky locals.
Taft Creek Campground prides itself on offering a streamlined and comfortable camping experience, particularly for RVers, as highlighted by consistent customer feedback. While it may be a newer establishment, the services provided focus on key amenities that enhance a stay.
-
Full Hookups at All Sites: A standout feature, as explicitly mentioned by customers, is that "All sites have full hookups." This means every campsite provides 30 & 50 amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. This level of service is highly desirable for RV campers, ensuring maximum comfort and convenience without needing to frequently move to dump tanks or refill water.
-
Fire Rings: Each site is equipped with a fire pit ring, allowing campers to enjoy traditional campfire experiences, from roasting marshmallows to warming up on cooler evenings. This simple yet essential amenity adds to the classic camping ambiance.
-
Ample Shade: The campground is set "amongst mature trees that provide ample shade." This natural canopy is a valuable service, particularly during Kentucky's warm summers, helping to keep campsites cooler and more comfortable throughout the day.

While not a tangible service, the high level of customer care, politeness, and consideration offered by the staff ensures a welcoming and helpful environment for all campers, contributing significantly to a positive experience.
It is important to note that, as mentioned by a reviewer, there is "no bathhouse or camp store" directly on-site. However, the close proximity to "Cedar Hill Market and Moors Resort" mitigates this, providing easy access to necessary supplies and additional facilities just a short distance away. This setup encourages a focus on self-contained camping while acknowledging nearby external resources.
