This hidden gem distinguishes itself by prioritizing seclusion, natural beauty, and a peaceful environment, making it an ideal choice for those who value tranquility above all else in their outdoor adventures.
North Carolina's Appalachian Mountains are a magnificent playground for outdoor enthusiasts, offering breathtaking scenery, diverse wildlife, and countless opportunities for recreation. Within this vast wilderness, finding a camping spot that provides genuine privacy and an undisturbed connection with nature can be a challenge. The Little Campground and Cabin rises to this challenge by offering a boutique camping experience with a very limited number of spacious sites, ensuring that every guest can truly unwind and immerse themselves in the serene mountain environment.
The emphasis here is on quality over quantity. With only four sites nestled in a tranquil setting, visitors are guaranteed a quiet, intimate experience. Reviews consistently highlight the "huge lots" and the unparalleled proximity to a "crystal clear mountain stream," creating a soothing soundtrack for peaceful nights. This intentional design caters specifically to those who seek solace and natural beauty, valuing the unadulterated peace that a secluded mountain getaway can offer.
While some campgrounds boast an endless list of amenities, The Little Campground and Cabin understands that for many, the greatest amenity is the natural environment itself. The provision of essential services like laundry and trash pickup, without the distractions of excessive facilities, allows guests to focus on what truly matters: enjoying the "private, quiet beauty of their mountain park." This philosophy resonates deeply with North Carolina locals who cherish the state's natural heritage and seek genuine outdoor experiences.
This article will delve into what makes The Little Campground and Cabin a premier choice for North Carolina locals seeking a serene mountain retreat. We will explore its precise location and accessibility, outline the essential services and unique features it provides, and offer crucial contact information. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive overview that helps you plan your next truly peaceful North Carolina mountain adventure.
Location and Accessibility
The Little Campground and Cabin is located at 564 Curtis Creek Rd, Elk Park, NC 28622, USA. Elk Park is a small community situated in Avery County, high in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina. This location places the campground amidst some of the state's most stunning natural scenery, offering a genuine mountain escape.
Curtis Creek Road suggests a more secluded setting, typical of the kind of private, quiet getaways that the campground aims to provide. While tucked away, Elk Park is positioned within reasonable driving distance of larger mountain towns that offer amenities and attractions. Banner Elk, Boone, and Newland are all relatively accessible, providing access to grocery stores, restaurants, outdoor gear shops, and various tourist destinations, including ski resorts, hiking trails, and artisanal crafts.
Accessibility to The Little Campground and Cabin primarily relies on personal vehicle transportation. The journey into the mountains, while scenic, can involve winding roads. However, the destination itself is typically manageable for most vehicles, including RVs, given the spaciousness of the sites. While specific public transportation options would be non-existent in such a secluded area, the drive itself becomes part of the adventure for many North Carolina locals looking to immerse themselves in the mountain experience.
The surrounding area offers abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking, fishing, and exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway. The very essence of the location is its connection to the raw beauty of the North Carolina mountains, making it an ideal base for adventurers seeking tranquility and natural immersion.
Services Offered
- Spacious Campsites with Full Hookups: The campground offers "huge lots," with specific mention of two sites being "less than 10ft from a crystal clear mountain stream." While not explicitly stated for all sites, the review about having an RV and being "delighted to have water, electric, and sewer hook up" at Jones Lake State Park (which was a previous campground review that seems to have been mistakenly included here, as the provided review for The Little Campground does not mention hookups, only laundry and trash pickup) suggests a focus on convenience. Re-evaluating the provided reviews only for "The Little Campground and Cabin," the services mentioned are:
- Laundry Facilities: This is a significant amenity for campers, especially for longer stays, providing convenience for washing clothes on-site.
- Trash Pickup: Regular trash pickup ensures a clean and well-maintained environment for all guests, contributing to the overall beauty of the park.
- Owner Interaction and Privacy: The owner meets guests at check-in, provides contact information, and then "left us alone," which is much appreciated. This indicates a respectful approach to guest privacy while ensuring support is available if needed.
- Quaint and Private Setting: With only 4 sites, the primary "service" is the promise of an intimate, uncrowded, and very quiet camping experience, ideal for seclusion.
Features / Highlights
- Secluded Mountain Getaway: The most prominent feature is its truly secluded nature, offering an escape from crowded tourist areas. This is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet amidst the natural beauty of the North Carolina mountains.
- Only 4 Sites: The very limited number of sites (only 4) ensures an exceptionally private and intimate camping experience, fostering tranquility and exclusivity for guests.
- Proximity to Crystal Clear Mountain Stream: Two of the four sites are "literally less than 10ft from a crystal clear mountain stream." This provides a soothing natural soundtrack and direct access to pristine mountain water, enhancing the peaceful atmosphere.
- Huge, Spacious Lots: All sites are described as "huge lots," providing ample space and privacy between campsites, preventing the cramped feeling often found in larger campgrounds.

- Appreciated Owner Interaction: The owner's respectful approach of meeting guests and then providing privacy is highly appreciated, striking a perfect balance between hospitality and allowing guests to enjoy their solitude.
Promotions or Special Offers
The Little Campground and Cabin, being a small, private, and highly specialized retreat, typically does not advertise traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the way larger commercial campgrounds might. Its value proposition is primarily derived from its unique features: extreme seclusion, spacious sites, and the serene mountain setting, which command a certain premium for those who prioritize peace and privacy.
While a reviewer noted the price might be "a little steep," they immediately followed up by saying it was "definitely worth it if you like secluded mountain getaways." This suggests that the pricing reflects the unique and high-quality experience offered rather than being subject to frequent discounts or promotions.
For North Carolina locals interested in booking a stay, the best approach is to directly contact The Little Campground and Cabin to inquire about their current rates and availability. Any potential for flexibility in pricing (e.g., for longer stays, though not explicitly mentioned) would be handled on a case-by-case basis through direct communication. The owner's respectful approach, providing a warm welcome and then granting privacy while remaining available for contact, further enhances the suitable experience. In conclusion, The Little Campground and Cabin is an ideal choice for North Carolina locals who are willing to pay a little more for the unparalleled peace, privacy, and natural beauty of a secluded mountain getaway. Customer Reviews
A little steep on price, but definitely worth it if you like secluded mountain getaways. Huge lots, only 4 of them in the circle, 2 of which are literally less than 10ft from a crystal clear mountain stream. No major amenities but they have laundry and trash pickup, and(at least to me) the biggest amenity they could offer is the private, quiet beauty of their mountain park. Will definitely be staying again if I pass through the area.
Very quaint, only 4 sites. Owner met us at checkin then left us alone, but gave us contact information if needed, much appreciated. Nice flowing stream next to our campsite, made for very peaceful nights' sleep. Site 2 is the only one with full shade. Definitely a place in which we would return.
This by far is the most amazing campground. The views are amazing and Maxine made us feel right at home. The roads leading in are a little challenging as we are from Florida and not used to hills and sharp turns. The only sounds you will here is rushing water from the creek that runs through the campground. Very little traffic from the road. Full hookups with 50 amp service. WiFi was strong, and fast enough for everything we needed to do. We were also given a Direct TV remote and plugged our rig into their cable connection. Great picture quality. Large Washer and Dryer for only $1 each. Restaurants and shopping are 10 minutes away. Highly recommend staying for a night or a week.
Maxine! You are a wonderful host, and my wife and I had the best time staying at your campground. Sadly, we left a day early to avoid bad weather, but we will be back soon for the fall foliage. Everything good people had to say about this campground is true and more. It was the easiest decision of our trip.
This is such a wonderful little campground! First off the owner (Maxine) was so gracious and not only helped me back into my site but also checked on us each day and made sure we had everything we needed. Our site was next to a nice running stream that was so peaceful to listen to and was also great entertainment for our kids. And the sites are very large so you have plenty of room to relax. Plus you are in close proximity to everything around this area so very convenient to go out during the day and explore with lots to do. We will definitely be back and so appreciate all the care and attention from the owners and letting us stay at their beautiful campground!
