For New York residents seeking the perfect blend of natural tranquility and convenient highway access, the Unadilla / I-88 / Oneonta KOA Journey offers an exceptional camping experience. Tucked away in the picturesque farmland of Central New York, this campground has earned a reputation as a friendly, meticulously maintained, and quiet oasis. It’s an official KOA Journey, meaning it’s perfectly designed to be a quick, hassle-free stop for travelers, but its depth of amenities and inviting atmosphere encourage guests to extend their stay and fully unwind.
Many campers, including those transitioning from long-term seasonal stays to touring, express delight at the respectful community atmosphere, where seasonal and short-term guests mingle happily. The dedication of the staff, often cited as "SUPER owners" who demonstrate unlimited energy to keep the place "running right," ensures a supportive environment—a fact wonderfully demonstrated by the prompt and caring assistance offered to a family dealing with a vehicle breakdown. This is a place where you can truly relax and count on a positive, family-focused experience, whether it’s your first camping trip or your tenth.
The strategic location of the Unadilla / I-88 / Oneonta KOA Journey in the Central Leatherstocking Region makes it an accessible hub for travelers coming from all directions in New York, as well as New England and Pennsylvania. While it offers a serene, rural setting that features the peaceful sounds of frogs and crickets, it remains remarkably close to major infrastructure.
The official address places it near the charming, historic village of Franklin:

Critically, the campground is located just 3.5 miles off Interstate 88 (I-88). This proximity to the highway ensures minimal detour time for those on the road, while its tucked-away position deep within tranquil farmland means that highway noises rarely, if ever, reach the campsites. Local users are advised to trust the KOA signage when exiting I-88, as the specific location is designed to maximize the feeling of retreat. This balance of convenience and seclusion is a major draw for New York families seeking a true getaway that is still easy to reach.

Wonderful stay for our family and a great experience for our grandkids first camping trip. We were so thankful for the friendly and supportive help we received when our vehicle broke down and it was super easy to just relax at the campsite while waiting for repairs. WE even booked a second night in one of the super sweet cabins while we waited for repairs. Thanks a million for your non-stop help!
Aug 04, 2025 · Darree SicherAfter spending nine years in a seasonal private campground, my wife and I began spending summers hauling our camping trailer from Western NY to various sites, primarily state parks in NY and PA. We had never visited a KOA but we booked a three night stay here as it was fairly centrally located to our daughters’ families, coming in from Philadelphia and Amherst MA. They stayed in one of the cabins and in a tent. Lots of pleasant surprises here, the rural setting, clean campsites, SUPER owners, and other campers (Including seasonals) who are mature, respectful and, at night, quiet! The pool is terrific and there are activities like bingo and a potluck dinner. It seems that the owners and their staff have unlimited energy to keep the place well maintained and running right. Thank you, Unadilla KOA, We’ll be back!
Aug 27, 2025 · Jim Rusert (Jimmytown)Your experience at this KOA will vary depending on your desired camping experience and site choice. Some are extremely cramped, some are gorgeous and right next to the creek. Lots of seasonal campers have taken the lots with good views and space. Our site was so small we didn’t even feel comfortable having a fire. If you book and are hoping for privacy, look for a spot on the creek or along the edges. We were disappointed we chose this site/campground for a multi-day stay, but would have been okay with it as a 1-nighter.
Aug 24, 2025 · Nourish the NorthJust stayed one night in a tent passing through heading to Ithaca. All the sites are very close to each other and small, there are lots of seasonal rv people. The bathroom and shower house was very clean and the owners are really nice and helpful. If you're into nature camping this wouldn't be the destination, but it was fine for a night.
Jul 22, 2025 · LizGreat little KOA. Tons of sites from tent (with and without electricity) to cabins, and RVs for 50/30/20 amp with electric and water. We stayed in a cabin which if you've stayed in a cabin at a KOA you know the set up. Full bed and a bunk bed. This cabin had a fan and a portable AC unit which was great with this heat. The bathroom was clean and the water warm. There is a little store. For kids there is basketball and I believe a pool, it was being filled when we arrived. Overall nice KOA.
